If. You're. Caught.

Just restore before giving it to Apple.

it's been stated on these forums that jailbreaking writes a file to your phone, in that, even if you restore, it won't remove said file.

apple runs a diagnostic to pick up this file...thus voiding your warranty.

no thanks

Why, because you like receiveing dirty texts? :)

yes, i do. who doesn't? you telling me you don't want your significant other flirting with you? flirting is the spark of love my friend.

anyway, the point isn't about dirty text msgs, it's the fact that ANY type of text message or email or what not should be construed as private information for only the owner of the phone to see.

if you haven't noticed, most people fall back on text messages more than email or even calling someone. they use it for interoffice communication, business, ice breaking, updates, security, sending for help, and even flirting.

there should be more consideration and privacy built into the SMS application, than haphazardly just tossing up every SMS you get on the main screen for anyone to see. if it really was the "best way" to deliver a text message.....then why hasn't it ever been done before with other phones? because it's a stupid practice. everyone....and i mean EVERYONE else just puts up a simple icon and a *ding* sound to aleart the user to a text.....they don't plaster it all over your phone....like apple does.

Get a phone that has the features that you want, it's just a phone.

If your phone doesn't work that's one thing, but to complain about features that aren't included and never were promised, basically says that you are whining about not doing your home work and buying a device that meets your needs.

Thank God we have another thread like this...The first several thousand of them seemed to just go nowhere. But there's something special about this one that I just know will reap incredible dividends.

Thank you so much to the OP for starting this thread! Yay!

His post history on MacRumors says even more. ;)

Wrong. Now you're just trolling. This whole thread is ridiculous.

why do all close-minde people think you're "trolling" if you post something they disagree with?

in regard to the jailbreak/void warranty.....post 26 is what i was referring to. not sure if it's true, but i'd rather not chance it.

here ya go!

:)

It's one thing to post something folks don't agree with. It's another to post the same tired critiques of the forum's main subject knowing it will do nothing but cause the reactions seen here.

In regards to trolling, the number of threads you've started on MacRumors that have ended up in the Wasteland because of your "posting style" pretty much sums up where the perceived issue is.

The post you're referring to is an utter joke. It's not first-hand. And the second-hand observer even said (in regards to the jail-broken iPhone and its owner) "So the cydia and winterboard apps were not visible. Now he could have just hidden them with the POOF app that hides apps. He didnt seem like the sharpest tool in the shed."

WRONG. I passed their diagnostics tool with flying colors. I restored then 'Erase All Content' then setup as new iPhone. One hour later I had my iPhone replaced for poor battery life.

- mms
- video recording
- copy/paste
- ability to turn off sms pop-up notifications (with or w/out locking the phone)
- sms forwarding
- ability to send emails thru MobileMe using my created aliases and not just my master account

thanks

i'm growing tired of these very, very sub-par updates they roll out....utterly tired of them...

what are you talking about? all these features are already present on the iphone...

So am I the only person who's phone is not constantly in other people's hands?? The number of threads about the SMS being shown on the screen (which can be disabled right?) and friends seeing it is crazy.

First of all, I don't pass my phone around, or leave it sitting out around people all the time. Secondly, who the hell cares what I receive in my text messages. If I receive a text from my wife saying "I want to tear your clothes off when you get home" and the guy sitting next to me sees it, then my response is "Sweet...I'm getting some tonight!". If your friends or coworkers judge you by what kinds of texts you receive, then it's time to get new friends, and stop talking to your nosy coworkers. Luckily, no one I work with cares either.

Didn't the last software release allow you to turn off SMS preview?

no, but then again, when windows mobile came out, it was sort of pioneering the way alongside palm. the problem is, the iphone shouldn't need all this time to develop features that have already BEEN DEVELOPED by other companies.

Other companies using a completely different platform. I still think the iPhone has a long ways to go and that's a good thing. It will get better and better.

Just because somethings been developed doesn't mean its right; you're getting that confused with what you're used to... If that was the case we'd all still be using a variation of Windows. A big part of what makes Apple who they are is the ability to NOT do what other companies do.

That, my friend, is complete and utter ********. There is absolutely no way for Apple to tell if you've jailbroken your iPhone after you've done a complete restore. No way. I'm not sure why this rumor hasn't died yet, but it really needs to be laid to rest. When you do a DFU restore, the entire OS is wiped out making it impossible for any previous data or settings to be recovered. It baffles me that people don't understand this.

And seriously, if the iPhone didn't have the features you wanted, why did you get one?

Wow, I had no idea people want MMS! Thanks.

yep, great feature!

fix it apple. fix it.

Thank you for flying Air Sarcasm. We're sorry you missed your connecting flight.

p.s. Apple doesn't live here.

*EDIT* wait a sec...WTF is this??? Someone just made my ignore list.

"if you don't like the new 3G iphone/features and/or you don't like the AT&T pricing and/or you don't like the activation/return policy.....then you don't have to get the phone or sign up with AT&T at all."

it'd be cool if all of you could lay off the verbal assults on me. i posted a simple and concise list of things i wanted on the iphone because i was tired of the lazy updates apple gives us (ie. japanese emoticons?? WTH? this was really that high on their priority list?).

it's not like none of you here wouldn't like to see those things i've listed on the iphone as well.

why so serious people? lighten up!
