It seems to me for every person on this site who is excited about the Apple Watch there is another who wants to list all the reasons they think it is dumb and will not succeed. Kind of reminds me of the people who bashed the iPad before it came out. In case you don't remember, just google "Why the iPad will not succeed" and have fun reading articles from authors who now have egg on their face. Here's one.

I for one am personally super excited about the Apple Watch and think it is a bit premature for people to write it off as a failure. Having owned both a Pebble and a Nike Fuel Band I can see the utility of wearables. I am looking forward to one device that will replace both my Pebble and Nike Fuel Band.

While it is true Apple was not first to market with the smart watch, I really believe the Apple Watch will be the best Smart Watch on the market. Everyone raves about the Moto 360 but honestly to me it feels cheap. The Pebble was a nice smart watch but the small monochromatic screen that would look horrible when viewed through polarized sunglasses also did not scream quality.

I really don't understand why people need to come on an Apple fan site and berate an Apple product that they have no hands on experience with and frankly do not understand. I think the Apple Watch is going to transform the smart watch market (much like the first iPod transformed the MP3 player market).

iPad succeded because it was a huge gift item, a lot of parents thought it was a computer and got it for their kids in school. The apple watch? Not so much.

meh, i don't have a problem with it, I just have 0 reasons to actually want one for myself

You don't think the Apple watch will be a huge gift item? I disagree. I think many people will buy the watch for themselves and then buy another for their significant other due to the new ways to communicate between watches. I think come Q4 the Apple Watch is going to be on all the hot holiday gift lists.

Don't worry; the Apple faithful will buy it no mater what.

Remember this video from Jimmy Kimmel' show where they put an Apple logo on a Casio watch and recorded a number of Apple loyalist who thought it was great.

Thats so funny and so very true.
The AW is just lacking in too many areas in its current form. The other vendor have better offerings at a cheaper price. Apple 1.0 exist to simply get the next one better.

Thanks. I guess my point was just that so many people are quick to write this off without even having used it because they cannot understand how it would be useful to them or they compare it to existing smart products. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I do love coming here and reading the forums because when I talk to my wife about the Apple watch she pretty much just rolls her eyes. #

Welcome to MacRumors!

LOL.

Stick around. You'll get used to the negativity every time there's a new product launch. You have the "It will fail!" team and the "Take my money!" team and you have all the people in between.

I still remember the people who swore the iPad would be a dismal failure.

Cheer up, man. You can come back after launch and poke them if they're wrong. :)

Shush. You know that if kids want an Apple Watch and parents have money, they will buy it.

I'm a parent and I bought the iPad for myself. One of the kids got it handed down after we bought some new ones. LOL.

You must be in Hawaii also (or certain parts of Vegas)

I am in neither Hawaii or the "Cal" in Vegas. Just a haole in the LA area who frequents Kihei Maui a lot.

I do miss Da Kitchen right around the corner and Rainbow Drive-In in your neck of the woods. Oops...Rainbow is in Oahu. I've only been to Kauai 3 times. It's been a while.

If you take that video seriously (staged / you never see the full reel which will have normal people calling them out on the fake), you've got some poor judgement issues.

Well I'll try to give you some perspective.

I'm a lifelong Apple fan, and I've always seen the value in all their ideas. I'm having a tough time with the watch though because it feels like the industry is really trying to force wearables on us all without much groundbreaking thought happening here. It's a solution in search of a problem, kind of like Google Glass.

I don't think it'll be a failure, but I don't think it's going to revolutionize things the way the iPhone did, at least not without some really great use cases materializing. I don't know about the rest of you, but I don't find it hard, or inconvenient to check notifications on my phone. I don't have a problem using my phone to call people, text them, order an uber, etc.

The biggest thing I think the watch CAN service is health and fitness, but there was very little emphasis on this, or it's usefulness as a personal fitness device. Instead Apple is trying to position themselves as jewelry, and for an even stranger reason, luxury jewelry, instead of what this really is: a gadget.

There may come a time when a wearable, or specifically a watch, becomes necessary, or truly takes the place of my phone, or becomes inseparable from it, but right now, I'm just not seeing it.

But to add to your original argument, many of the people here that are "for it" are so because they're absolutely in love with Apple and Apple can do no wrong to them. To some of us, Apple's been slipping lately. They used to have laser focus on what they were doing and presenting with people, and since Steve died, that hasn't always been the case. OS X and iOS are a bit of a mess, and it seem that Apple is trying to do too much (all the way from features, to product line ups - the simplicity just isn't there anymore). I remember the day the iPhone was announced, and I was blown away, and since then I've long hoped for another one of those keynotes, and I kind of hoped the watch would wow me like that, but it just didn't.

Couldn't have said it better. Every point is spot on.

after using the latest samsung gear watch that's let you send text and make calls, all without the use of a smart phone. is like telling me to c'mon you need to give the horse and buggy another chance. thanks but no thanks. i don't like going backwards in tech. if you like it, you buy it. but count me out. maybe the next gen iwatch but not this one.

Yeah And you would need to pay a watch bill, separate from your phone bill to make a call with your watch. Kinda defeat the purpose right? Because it require a SIM card for it to make calls. Which in end means u would of to pay a monthly bill for that. I mean who would want to pay a monthly bill for a watch just so u can make calls on it? kind of pointless to me. The phone companies are not going to give u a SIM card for free. The apple watch make more sense to use your existing phone to make calls & text with to me.

Nonsense. The iPad costs an extra $10/month with my Verizon plan. No reason the watch couldn't cost the same or less. Next.

Well either way you still paying for it to be used like your IPad or phone etc. So the fact remains u of to pay a monthly bill either way.

I have zero interest in any smartwatch currently. Yet I do like that Apple is entering the segment. Once a year goes by and I observe how they're doing and how Apple is likely to improve and debug the second generation model, if compelling I may change my mind, be interested and buy one.

No matter how the original performs I won't change my mind. I've got too many years of early adopter experience with Apple products. The second gen is always worth the wait.

A most recent example is my own failure to wait, I'm currently living with very buggy iPhones 6 and 6 Plus. I can't wait to buy the upcoming models.

If I understood your mangled english properly.. who cares? I'd rather pay an extra $5 or $10/month to have a watch that isn't dependent on my phone. Honestly, the only time I can picture actually wanting to use this thing is at the gym, and I'd rather not have my phone with me then anyway.. so, who cares?

Exactly...who cares? If we want to purchase the apple watch that works in conjunction with our phones then it's all good. Also the AW can be used independently at the gym, for tracking your fitness, music, etc. The AW will have a lot of benefit for me, when I am out cycling. Or when riding my GSXR 1000 to the gym etc. When in the garage working, I will be able to reply to text or accept or decline phone calls etc. And lastly the AW is going to be the best looking smart watch on the market, when it becomes available.
