1.5 Hours?!?!?!? Damn, that's little.

Yup. I don't use it a whole lot, as you can tell. If I call out five times a month it's doing something. And for the cost per minute if I go overboard it's more than affordable.. Me happy.

The Cancer-Issue mostly stems from having the Phone in use close to your head/body while it is in use - the theory being that heavy useage over time and the close proximity of the phone to your body while it is sending off radio waves, can cause cancer.

2 solutions without having to give up a cell phone?
*make & take phone calls on speakerphone mode, instead of having it pressed up against your head.
*get a wired (not wireless bluetooth head set) headphone/mic combo. Keeps phone away from your cranium - but if it's still in your pants, you might get ball-cancer anyway. Good luck with that.
:)

I only use my phone to recieve calls and messages, had no credit on it for about a year now (topped up with £50 to last a year). I just use landphones to ring and I'm always besides an email capable computer. I could live without a phone but I'm eagerly awaiting getting an iPhone.

I am planning on getting rid of my cell phone too. I use it maybe a total of one hour every month and I hate carrying it with me. I'd much rather get a landline for about $10 a month. I am just incredibly lazy and don't want to go through the hassle of getting the landline all set up. One of these days...

hell no don't do it! Now that i have a cellphone i can't live with out it, non the less a blackberry.

I think I'd be more prone to butt-cheek cancer (since it's proximity is so close due to the holster) :D.

I read somewhere that the bluetooth things are even worse than using the cell phone? I agree about using a *wired* headset.

I thought that the risk of cancer wasn't reduced by using a wired hands-free kit? Since it then uses the headphones as an antenna.

I've been using a horrific old Nokia phone for about a year and I'm ditching that ASAP for any phone with a loudspeaker. Be that an iPhone or some shoddy other phone.

I think some confusion might be with associated with wired headsets having their cords used as antennas for radio reception, vs the antenna used by cell phone devices for receipt and more importantly - transmission of radio frequencys.
Headphones/wired headsets that have their cords used as antennas have been around for years - primarily found with walkman-like music players, to pickup am & fm band radio broadcasts. These certainly will not give you cancer, as they only receive radio energy already present all around you in the air.

The big hubb-bubb about cell phones & association with cancer, is when the cell phone devices are broadcasting radio frequencys in close proximity to your body. these transmissions are certainly more powerful forms of radio energy on the outbound-end of a conversation, than what the phone is picking up inbound - because the device has to broadcast & maintain a connection to a cell tower somewhere nearby.

From what I understand, using a wired headphone set on most if not all cell phones does not disable the already built-in antenna of the device in favor of some antenna wire within the headphone cord itself, for broadcasting.
Since absorbing of radio energy by the body drops off dramatically with proximity, using a wired headset and keeping the cell phone even a few inches away from you while in use, should help with any fears about getting the "big C" from your device.

But just to be clear: I think the jury is still out on this one - I've read as many reports from creditable scientists that cell phones pose no danger, as I've read ones that state the possibility that they could pose a danger.
bottom line? I'd go with whatever makes YOU feel safer.

I think whether people love or hate their cell is based on whether its a tool for "the man" (aka, the office) to keep you tethered, or if its a tool you use to stay in touch with family and friends. I love my cell, because its primarily the latter. I tend to hear from people I WANT to hear from on it. During the work day, obviously it keeps me in touch with the office - but that's during the work day, so its okay :).

I knew a guy once who kept two cell phones. One for business, and that number he gave out to clients, coworkers, boss, etc... and one for personal use. The business one went OFF every day about an hour after he got home from work and was OFF on weekends. The personal one, only his friends and family knew the number to. It stayed on. This may be an option to consider for anyone who has bosses/clients/coworkers who abuse the cell phone and take the fact they have your cell number to mean you are on call 24/7.

I probably use mine even less than that. If my company wasn't reimbursing me for my phone and allowing my wife to have an add-on phone for $9.99 (which ends up more like $15 after all the taxes and fees) I'd seriously think of ditching mine as well, or at least dropping down to a basic pre-pay. On the other hand, one of my coworkers just got an iPhone and if the company ends up reimbursing the data as well, I may have to think about upgrading instead! I'd hate to have to recommit to 2 years again (my AT&T contract was fulfilled almost 2 years ago and I like knowing I can stop whenever I want without paying any early-termination fee).

Hmmm, I don't have a home phone. We just have cell phone's in my house hold.

I did.

I used to use my phone all the time, always texting people, you would never see me without a phone on me... Then I just stopped topping it up.

I have it on me sometimes coz my mum or someone might wanna contact me but I dont use it anywhere near as I did before.

Oh yeah, cordless landline phones cause cancer now, apparently.

But is that a real threat or just some minor things that turn up to sell papers? Because cordless landline phones have such a short range, ours is about equal to our Wifi range. Past the garden and it's off.

Then again they also say WiFi can be bad for you if you're near the router itself.

All these waves rushing through me, ooo it tickles so.
