the guy who lost it didnt even have a passcode on it!
is it me or is that stupid?

to me the phone looks to cheap, too much plastic in it.

I have been saying that sense the story first came out!! Why wasn't this top secret iPhone pass coded?

As far as looking cheap and platic  I want you to try something... pull white 3gs out of pocket, look at back of phone, what do you see?

1) Apple is OCD about design, and having those "grooves" around the side of the phone annoys me, which means it would really annoy Apple. I would expect it to be one flush piece around the side.

And you know this how?

The new iPhone looks very sharp, I think. Most people think so too going by comments on the tech blogs and twitter. A few don't like it. We all have our own opinions, but just because one of us personally doesn't like it (or does) isn't an indication that Apple, with 30 years under it's belt and some of the best designers in the world, thinks so too. Just sayin'...

And the design of the model is unlike anything that's out there now. The 3G has a shape and look that resembles a few other smartphones. tbh I was disappointed by the look of it. The roundy-ness, the plastic (Pre, Kin, anyone?) This new model is pretty unique, and fits in better with the rest of Apple's lineup. I'll lay odds that if they are making this, other companies start making square-ish alumunim (or aluminum-coloured plastic) sided ones too. :p

Am I the only one that thinks the seams on the next gen iPhone look kind of great and Apple like? Some of the best seams I've ever seen.

I think this whole leak think runied everything! It sucked all the fun right out of the wait to WWDC..........

Thanks a alot Gray, the guy who sold it, and GIZMODO!:rolleyes::rolleyes:

You didn't have to read anything about it now did you.

It has "squared off edges" just like the Alum MacBook's, and have you seen the latest Apple product... the iPad?? Duh!
That was IT folks- I'm just disappointed that it doesn't have stereo speakers...

Oh come on!
First we had the "is it real, is it a clone? debate"
We got the strip-tease like reveal of the hardware.
Then we got the design critique.
Not to mention the armchair Perry Masonry that accompanied the legal drama as the sordid tale of the leak's provenance emerged.

This was *way* more fun that one of those tired old keynotes!

Encore!

I think it looks fantastic and all the other phone companies trying to make their phone clones look ridiculous.

What else more do you need from a frickin' touch screen? Just give me the screen and a minimal design. No glitz and rubbish.

iPhone 4G Design

I agree there are elements of the "Gizmodo" found iPhone that seem to in conflict with the recent Apple design aesthetic. However, there is no more important design philosophy than the old adage, "Form follows function". If Apple is trying to pack more functionality into the same basic form factor, then some compromises may have to be made including finding more space for those hardware elements housed in the casing. While the rounded back of the current iPhones is a natural shape for the human hand to hold it is by no means a complete shape shifter reversal of the current design language used by Apple. The flat back of the "Gizmodo" found iPhone is makes complete sense if form is to follow function. It minimizes the expansion of the increased external dimensions while still providing the extra space needed for increased number of internal hardware pieces or increased capacity as in larger battery. The visible phillips screws will are nothing new as the current iPhone 3GS has two visible screws flanking the docking port. I would expect they will be minimized in the final design. While not everyone may love the design we've seen in this found iPhone prototype, it does a good job of separating itself from the current crop of iPhones. I expect there will be minor changes before the final product ships. Another factor to remember is that most people place their iPhone in some sort of case that changes it's outer appearance and feel in the hand anyway. So, again the most important thing to consider is the function of the iPhone and if that is paramount then form must follow function. In the end I'm sure we'll all be happy with the end product we buy this summer.

I thought the same at first but when I saw the sides of the iPad and how its designed I think the prototype is VERY close to what we'll see in production. Hopefully some changes are made to the shape so it fits in my 3GS cases but that doesn't look very likely at this point

waaaaaaaaay more fun!

First, I think the people over at Gizmodo are a bunch of a**holes. I hope Apple never invites Gizmodo to any of their events again.
Second, that's not even close to the 4th Gen iPhone. I can't until WWDC when the iPhone they announce is the complete opposite of that piece of crap on Gizmodo.
Third, just because Apple asked for the device doesn't mean it's the next iPhone. It could be an old prototype and they could've completely revamped the design since then.
Finally, no matter what the next iPhone looks like, it'll be great. People will buy it and enjoy it and then they will wait for the next iPhone after that.

Simply amazing that Apple could create a device that could cause such chaos.

Wow...how in the world can a phone make people so loyal to the point of such emotional rants in it's defense? It is a pile of plastic, metal and chips.

How do you know that "that's not even close to the 4th gen iphone"?

Did gizmodo ruin your surpise that bad?

Yeah I really don't get these people that feel so betrayed they don't get to be "surprised" at some event. If the black mock turtle neck so integral the the wow factor that it depresses them that much to see it somewhere else?

Why do people insist it was a publicity stunt?
Apple gets more free publicity than anyone, it's just silly to me that anyone thinks Apple needs to do something like this.

Also, screw gizmodo. I can't stand that damn immature blog, now more than before. I never thought I could respect them less, boy was I wrong. They showed their true colors and out did themselves.
Bunch of idiots. If they had done the respectable thing none of us would know anything about any of this and they would have made a better friend of Apple.
Can't say it really disappoints me though, I will enjoy it when they get what's coming to them. :)

1) and 4) are most likely because it is not the final design. They will most likely be removed before final production, but are there for a reason now.

Seriously? This upsets you so much that you want gizmodo to suffer? Why does knowing what the next iphone will look like upset you so much? You ARE on a rumor site by the way. Bizarre...

So what did Gizmodo do again? Report and bring us all news and pictures about the next iphone due to an Apple employees negligence. Isnt that what newspapers and magazines do daily? Or instead you think they would go and give it back to Apple quietly to make a better friend? You cant be serious.
Some of you are beyond pathetic acting worst than Steve Jobs would :D
Hey maybe Apple will pass a new law in the US that iPhone proto-type finding is outlawed and a felony.....

You joke but I am quite sure Apple would love to have such a law if they could get away with it and many people here would be happily informing on their neighbors for violations.

I like how Ryan Block lays it out:
