Ya, in otherwords USELESS. Wow, a smaller representation of the screeen right in front of your face. Who needs multitouch on a "desktop replacement" anyways, is the GUI too much trouble these days? The whole point to the 'touch' iPod is because its so small to begin with. Its a solution to make it functional. I seriously hope Apple isn't wasting time on this and instead puts r&d into just making the machine FASTER and better.

No to the glass trackpad.

ROFL... I agree.

I highly doubt there would be a glass trackpad....and the idea of a second screen in the trackpad...for what ??? if anything... it could be activated for media playing like audio/video without powering up the laptop.... but all this is gonna reduce the battery time even more....and I for one prefer longer battery time over something like that.....get an ipod instead. heh

If I wanted a media center laptop I would've bought a dell insipron or xps . lol

it's not Apple's style.

Ya but they'd get smudgy w/ fingerprints, greasy & dirty easily. You'd always be cleaning them esp if they had touch features.

do you own an iPod touch or iphone? It's ridiculously easy to clean and with one swipe the screen looks new. Besides, a touchpad to your laptop is much less likely to get smudged than a phone that is touching one's face, etc. I think this would be a great new feature, and I know apple will find a way to make the touch screen complement the macbooks seemlessly...

personally, a glass trackpad??????? heck no. I think the rumor is to completely throw you off... i think it turned into the "glass touchpad" way down the grapevine. If you were to ask me... i think it is actually trying to tip you away from the "macbook touch glass screen"So anyways. I agree that it is not a problem about the fingerprints... its easy to wipe. I agree with the power thing.... power is precious in a lappy, why add an additional screen JUST to make it look cool and add a couple more "gestures" in flippn iphoto. anyways.. thats my gab about this.

hmm, a glass trackpad wouldn't get all discolored and gross with finger crud like the plastic version. A quick wipe and it'd be clean again.

Having it be a little screen would just be icing on the awesomecake. Assuming it was executed well.

The new glass trackpad is going to be better anything out there. It's going to do something multi-touch doesn't do in the latest MBP pro release. I say this with good faith in the Apple design team. They're not gonna just make it glass for looks or to be "cool". It's going to have some function that will make the new MBP, the new MBP.

Dont know about glass or not...

But I don't think a screen would work, for a start it would restrict how you seat yourself at the MBP cos the angle would be all wrong if your looking at the main screen and then the track pad at like 80 degrees off, you wouldnt be able to see it properly.... Unless they offer a double jointed neck as BTO!

Also your finger would be in the way the whole time!!

Agreed, i'm not sure where this rumour originated but it seems thoroughly unworkable and somewhat gimmicky which, as a rule, is not Apple.

why a glass track pad

what I honstely think is that they will fog up up on the inside and I think I would constely find my self cleaning it like I I do my ipod touch screen.

Sure if you dunk your computer in water and throw then put it on a heater.

If the trackpad is really a little monitor I wonder what there will displayed. I can absolutely not imagine anything usefull... anyone?

Ok I believe I came up with some ideas of how this may be used

-Dock
-coverflow
-media controls
-mouse that does right click
-short cuts no more having to press cmd-shft-4 or what ever just tap on the short cut

The source that said we were going to have a glass trackpad said that they would have been released by now. They were wrong about that, but they definitely got those glass trackpads down.
