Oakley makes the shades that transform a tool, you'd hate for the kidsto think you lost your cool.

[/weezer reference]

I wear contacts, I hated putting anything into my eyes until I actually got them and realized that my 'dislike' for putting things in my eyes like drops or anything was fear of it hurting, when I started actually using them my fear basically disappeared because it doesn't hurt at all.
:apple:

I wear glasses at home.

I went through school and college with people knowing that I wore glasses (dur!), so in uni I tried a little experiment. I only ever wore contact lenses when I went there. I find that I can't work properly in contact lenses. It's like some kind of Superman transformation... I'm more energetic and playful in contacts. Heh.

About a month ago I treated myself to a couple of pairs of posh specs and haven't used contacts since

I have three pairs of glasses and sensitive eyes. I have one pair in my room just in case I need them upstairs (my spares) one for casual, around-the-house stuff (the ones with the beautifully geeky black plastic frames) and then another pair for going out (which are metal-framed, rectangular and quite stylish).

I'd love a pair of frameless glasses... ooooh, those are nice. My vision insurance ran out last year though.

I'd like to try contacts at some point, but after seeing my dad and brother get them and the swelled eyeballs after trying to get them out kind of puts me off. (I once heard of someone using tweezers to remove them...?)

. . . (I once heard of someone using tweezers to remove them...?)
There's your problem!

Not once have I had a problem removing my contacts; it can be somewhat tricky if your eyes are dry (namely because you fell asleep with your contacts in), but a few drops of artificial tears can take care of that, or likewise, waiting 15 minutes would do the trick.

And ironically, the only eye problem I've had within the past year (or ever, really) was a bout of sudden allergic conjunctivitis, and I hadn't been wearing my contacts that day.

There seems to be a lot of folklore surrounding contacts, all of which was thoroughly dispelled as soon as I got them. For anyone on the fence, I can't stress enough the wonderful experience I had, and strongly urge you to speak about it with your optometrist at your next visit. :)

Yeh, I figgered using a metal object of any type or style i a bad idea. Does anyone know if blue contacts will work if I have medium-dark brown eyes?

I started wearing glasses when I was 8 years old, as I have terrible vision. I was so used to wearing glasses that the thought of contacts or lasik never crossed my mind. However, about 5 years ago, I was planning a huge backpacking trip throughout Austraila, and realized that unless I somehow had prescription goggles made, there would be no way I could experience and enjoy the Great Barrier Reef, surfing, swimming in the ocean, etc. So, I gave contacts a try and it was the best decision I ever made - it opened up a whole new world to me. My vision ended up being clearer since the lenses were so much closer to my eye, my peripheral vision was amazing, and I didn't have to worry about little annoyances anymore like my glasses fogging up in winter. ;)

My contacts have given me a lot more freedom and have allowed me to do other things where glasses aren't preferred - for instance, sports such as soccer, as well as acting and modeling gigs.

I have thought about getting lasik as well, but I am enjoying the new world that contacts have given to me, and after having glasses for so long prior, I really have no desire (yet at least) to get my eyes zapped.

So yeah, I still wear glasses to give my eyes a break from time to time, but I absolutely love what contacts have done for me.

I started wearing glasses in the 4th grade because my teacher moved me to the back of the room to switch places with another girl who couldn't see. When I couldn't see, she wrote a letter home saying I needed glasses. I did. Since then, my eyes have progressively gotten worse. Four months ago, I needed a stronger prescription and asked for contacts. I usually hate eye touching stuff, but I dealt with it. I can now put them in with ease. (Your eye really does get used to it). However, I still wear glasses at night so I can fall asleep without worrying about the contacts in my eyes.

Glasses - I tried contacts, and they were fine when I got plenty of sleep. But for me, that's a bit on the rare side, and when I'm tired, my eyes would dry out horribly. The other thing is that I typically take my glasses off for certain close work / reading. So glasses it is.

I agree with you about contacts: they really do open up a new world of vision! I'm not sure I'd get my eyes lasered: I don't trust it, since it's not been around long enough to know the long term effects. Besides, contacts are good enough for me!

I'm EXTREMELY near-sighted, and can't see past a few inches in front of my face without correction.

I see better with my glasses, but I wear contacts usually. Right now, because my glasses give me headaches (sinus and allergy issues), I wear contacts 24/7. I wear a pair until they become uncomfortable (even sleeping in them), and the switch them out for another pair. Not the healthiest, but that's what I've been doing all summer.

I'm the same way. I can't even see the computer screen or the CD's on the rack in the store unless I have my contacts in.

I wear Focus Night & Day contact lenses, wear them 24/7 for a month and then I dispose of them and put in a new pair.

I cannot stand glasses. The entire time I wear them my eyes burn and behind my ears hurt. I threw my last pair of glasses away because one of the lenses was continuously popping out and no matter what I can never seem to get a pair of glasses straight.

Yep, that's pretty much exactly my take too. :)

I want my eyes zapped. Might be going in for a bit of minor eye surgery soon anyroad. Might as well make a day of it and get them zapped too.

Glasses just annoy me though. I love to go swimming and with my -7 in one eye (-3 in another) I'm kinda buggered.

I switched back to glasses so when I get LASIK my eyes can get used to being naked :D

Plus don't you need at least a couple of months of contactless in order for your eyes to "adjust"?

ragged, I used to have -6 in one eye and -2.75 in the other and it was pretty dizzying  Now they've evened out to -6.25 and -6 :/

Your eyes will be bluish but not like a blue eyed person. I have the same problem. Its a nice combination though

been wearers of both for a long, long time.
First came the glasses then when I started working at a McD's, I bought contacts.

Contacts are for long driving, hunting, and sports and glass are mostly for night or crappy weather days. Contacts also for movies. I can't stand getting glasses dirty and it seems to happen way too easy...smudges bug me watching a flick.

you think touching your eyes is bad? not bad...but try losing a contact behind your eyeball (I can see you eeeewwwing right now :) that isn't fun. It's happened a few times, but never serious.

You can't actually lose a contact lens behind you eye. I've had to search for a few after rubbing an eye, but they can't go much further than the side.

A "Got pissed off with both so had laser surgery" option would be good ? ;)

But for the record, used to be glasses most of the time as I couldn't be arsed faffing with the contacts first thing in the morning for work.

I wear contacts in public and wear my glasses at home.

I have no problems with contacts and actually think they are more comfortable than glasses, it is just that if you wear contacts too much they can damage your eye.

Eeeeeeewwwwwing. Absolutely. Oooooff. Owwww. Eeeek. Oh dear. Since I've joined this welcoming forum recently, I have laughed, (sometimes privately cursed) and learned. Ouch. This is the first thread I have read that actually has me squirming - and, yes, rubbing my eyes. And closing them. Tightly. Uncomfortably. Yes, I wear spectacles and have done so since I was seven. For all of the reasons discussed here, (well the reason most cited on this thread) I have never contemplated contacts. It is simply that the thought of something sitting on my eye makes me very very squeamish; (I don't see myself (yes, pun) as squeamish, for I have worked in former war-zones, Bosnia, Kosovo, and many other such places monitoring elections, but the thought of contacts makes me uneasy; such is life's rich and sometimes ludicrous tapestry). Some friends had horror tales of personal experience from (I'll admit) years back. Cheers.

Contacts. But they must be daily disposables. Daily disposables are thrown away each night, and each morning you use a new pair. This greatly lowers the already low risk of using regular contacts, and it makes it so each day your eyes feel at their freshest.

Can't stand the thought of sticking my finger near my eye with it open.. Just a mental roadblock. Will end up having to get my eyes lazered sooner or later as i'm at -8.75 and -9.something and I'm only 19 years old...
