I was weary of the glass screen when I started contemplating upgrading from my late 2006 15" Macbook Pro to the 13" uMBP. My wife has a late 2007 Macbook with the "semi-gloss" (without the glass panel but still glossy) screen and I hate it. But I love the high gloss screen of my new MBP. It's a heck of a lot sharper and bright than her Macbook and I personally think it's one of the sharpest, clearest screens I've ever seen.

I wish the screen wasn't glass. Its a problem which shouldn't exist. And if its off, you can definitely see yourself in the glass easily. But with it on, its great. I just never want to see a matte MBP so I never see how great it truly can be.

...What I mean by obsolete is that in 2 years, the bottom of the line macbook will be far faster than the top of the line BTO 17" macbook pro today...

That's not true at all. Let's take two years ago as an example. The 17" released in June 2007 was 2.4 or 2.6 optional Core2Duo. Here, two years later, that's still faster than 3 out of 6 of the MacBook Pro models.

I'll be able to vote in this poll pretty soon. I've had my 13" MBP for 3 days now, but i've only used it in one location.

as jealous as I am of those with the newer and faster hardware than what I have, I am just so glad that I have the matte screen. It makes things okay at night when I think about the new ones.

I have a 12 inch Powerbook and a 2008 White MacBook and I am not bothered by either display. They both are fine to me. I wouldn't care if a computer I was buying had one or the other.

The glassy MBP's are way beyond the glare of your MB and the PB is matte. Unfortunately, unless you buy another MB white or a 17" w. display option you can't buy either of what you have. GlassyGloss is the new :apple: standard.

I really don't notice any reflections, unless I have something very bright behind me, and even then I don't really pay much attention to it.

I think the little particles sticking to the screen bothers me more.

Where's the option "I specifically purchased a glossy screen so I have no complaints"? Every option seems to talk about glossy screens as something one needs to get "used to". Ever think that maybe some people outside the advertising/photography/publishing demographic (which is becoming a smaller and smaller slice of Apple's pie) would appreciate the glossy screens for better looking games and watching movies?

I'm in the financial world, and work way too many hours. I cannot handle the glassy because it fatigues me. During the day with my back to the window out of my office, I get reflections from the sun, and at night from the lights. When you work over 100+ hour weeks consistently, you are very conscious of things that add to your fatigue and do everything you can to minimize it.

There are more than just ad/photo/media who care about the matte screen.

The problem is much smaller than it appears. I bet less than 1% actually care, but that 1% is really loud when it comes to complaining about it.

1% is a number you pulled out of your ass. Look at some actual polls and you see preferences trend toward matte in almost every case:

It takes sometime getting use to; however, I actually enjoy the glossy screen very much even when I use it outdoors.

Drives me crazy....

I've had a 15" glossy for 7 months.

I can't stand it.

The 17" Anti-Glare arrives in 1 week.

My younger sister has a 13" MacBook Pro with the glassy screen and she's not the most computer literate person out there, so I help her out a lot. So, I've used the Glassy screen a fair bit and I just cannot get used to it at all. The glossy screen on my MacBook Air is OK, not great but not absolutely terrible and reflections on that bug me a fair bit.

But the glassy screen is bad, I know that I could never get used to that since I am pretty easy to distract and the reflections would interfere with my computer usage. Definitely never going to buy a computer with a glassy screen, or if I do I'll have it converted to Matte.

I've had the MBP for 6 months now. I have to say that I really loved the screen at first. I still love it, but there are times when it is a pain in the ass.

I just moved and my new place has many big windows and an awesome view, so I always have the blinds up. I only have problems if I try to play a video game during the day. Then I have to close all the blinds, which I hate to do.
