it's funny that a lot of posts here say glossy but the vote gives advantage to the matte. Are the matte pple less talkative ? :)

Go and see both from yourself. It's personal preference.
Yep, it is a personal choice for sure.

My wife and I make two who do not like or use glossy displays if at all possible.

In fact, I was going to buy her a MBA. She was excited. We went to the local computer store. We walked up to the Demo MBA and in just a few seconds she said thanks, but no thanks. She wanted to go look at Windows computers without a glossy display.

I just wish Apple gave a choice on all of their models, be it a laptop or desktop.

Matte only for me and the wife.

When I buy my new MBP tomorrow, I'm definitely going with a glossy this time around. The only glossy I have ever owned was a black MacBook and I loved it. The other half a dozen mac's I have owned (mainly PowerBooks and MBP's) have been matte.

Matte.

I don't find glare to be a problem with glossy screens and at first glance, the colours look nicer but I edit photos on my computer and the colours end up disaturated if done on a glossy.

I vote for matte. It would be interesting if the pro glossy camp would state if they typically use their Macs to work with graphics/photography/video applications or just for viewing videos/pictures etc.

I sometimes work with graphics and video so prefer matte. IMHO glossy is good for viewing movies etc where accuracy/eye strain doesn't factor.

(copypasted from a old post).

Which is better?. :apple:

I wish they still had matte screens. I would've bought a new MBP for college then. Oh well. I hate glossy screens. They look cheap and show fingerprints more and the color accuracy isn't that great. Plus, I hate glare.

If all the Kool-Aid drinkers & gamers here are right...and Apple is really only doing what the market share dictates....why are the majority of screen comments on here anti-glossy.....all the polls I've seen are roughly 65% for matte/35% for glossy....and I've NEVER seen a glossy MBP in public, in studios, w/ friends....anywhere.

I don't doubt that the majority of MB users want glossy, if I was to get a MB I'd probably want that too. I just don't get how this is being forced on Pro users as if its doing us a favor...because the MAJORITY want it. I don't buy that for one second.

I also don't begrudge anyone for wanting one I just don't see how the CHOICE of having one has to be taken away. I think it just didn't fit into Apple's vision of all their products looking the same & flashy.

Matte. The glossy displays are color-accurate enough for me but the glare on the glossy displays bothers me.

And yes, I am a person who is easily bothered by things, I can't help it!

I have a better idea...

GET OVER IT and order a refurb and quit Crying....It is what it is....And guess what? Apple is gonna make a killing off of it even if the Glossy display sucks

As for the poll results, I would say the high number of "glossy" responses is attributable to a number of factors:
  • People who respond to the poll are more likely to be those who are upset - i.e. glossy display users
  • MR members are more likely than the general public to do things where color accuracy is important
  • MR members are more likely than the general public to care about "details" like glare
Basically it is a self-selecting sample.

That's a terrible idea. :p

And to cry is to be human.
