I can't believe the arrogance around here when someone dislikes something Apple has done.

As has been tirelessly pointed out, some of us have imperfect eyesight for which reflective display surfaces can be an issue. Maybe it doesn't bother you. Great. For me, it's an annoyance. Why be insulting about it?

Tirelessly pointed out indeed. We get it. Inkswamp doesn't like glossy.

I think there should be a choice too.

I don't mind the glossy, but I would rather have non glossy.

actually, i think you missed his point. its not about him not liking glossy. its about people who DO like it, being completely arrogant, and claiming people who DON'T like it are "wrong". you can't be WRONG when its a PERSONAL PREFERENCE.

i just ordered a 2.4ghz 17" mbp. glossy was never a consideration. i design for the web. its bad enough the difference between different displays & OSes already, i dont want to introduce false appearance of colours to that mix.

Glossy screen on my MBP here and I don't think it is awful when used outside a dark room.

ditto. The problem with most of these threads is that people want to talk in absolutes. "glossy is fine for everyone" or whatever.

I like glossy and have no more problems with it inside or outside than matte. But not everyone is the same. Some prefer matte and some find glossy a problem.

I was bummed when I read the new gorgeous iMacs were glossy only. I wanted to get one for my studio/assitant to edit on, but the glossy makes it a no go.

:(

It's weird - they sort of hyped up the "pro" aspect with the aluminum look, but then only gave us a "non-pro" glossy monitor.

it isnt being sold as a pro machine though, all you need it sandpaper and you can make it a matte screen anyway lol

I just bought a new 24 inch iMac and i was weary about the screens
cause of al the negativity i read about it here on these pages.

But it's GORGEOUS it's the best screen i have had for years.

My previous 20 inch Cinema Display doesn't even come close.
Photos look so wonderful on this screen.
And yes, i do graphic design.

So for all photographers who are in doubt if they should get one, definitely go check it out for yourself.

I LOVE the glossy screen.

your clients are not going to love your glossy screen as much as you when all the colors are incorrect.

Thank you for being one of the few voices of civility here, and yes, that's exactly my point. And as far as repeating myself, I kept doing that because it seemed what I was saying wasn't getting through. Either there are some people here who have serious difficulty with reading comprehension or they were being intentionally obtuse in an effort to reject criticism of Apple.

I'm really disillusioned with some of the Mac users here who seem to jump at any chance to defend to the death every move Apple makes, and equally disgusted with how often those defenses turned into ad hominem attacks (gee, I don't like glossy screens because of my eyesight so therefore I'm a liar and insane, according to some here.) I don't understand that. You can love the things a company makes and still be critical of their shortsighted decisions.
