Seriously, do people really need to keep posting pictures of the two side by side? The best thing you can do if you are on the fence, is go into an Apple store and look at them. If you can tolerate glossy in that kind of lighting, you'll have no problems anywhere else.

BTW, I absolutely love my glossy, and 27" glossy cinema display. I couldn't be happier with my decision.

AG looks bad in that picture because the brightness is at the lowest. If you put the brightness mid-high on the AG you could easily read they text. If you did the same on the glossy, it would make only a minor difference.

I could be wrong, but that matte screen in the photo you're referring to looks more like those hybrid matte/glossy screen to me than just a standard "pure" matte screen.

I thought glossy looked fine until I went to the Apple Store. I put an antiglare and a glossy side by side and fell in love with the antiglare. Just my preference.

Got my AG today. SEXY BEAST!

"Sexy" is not a word normally used to describe anti-glare. People use words like "accurate" and "useful" for AG. The glossy on the other hand is a hottie. Everybody wants to bang the glossy and just be friends with the anti-glare.

Would people normally use the word "trolling" to describe what you're doing in this thread?

Trolling? He is being accurate. The AG is for color accuracy, not for sexiness.

We will have to agree to disagree here. IMO the glossy screen is only an eye sore. The matte screen on the other hand looks fantastic, even for movies and games. (I used a computer with a glossy screen as my main computer for over a year, so this is coming from an actual user rather than just speculation or sparse use.)

Owner of an original unibody mbp here (late 2008). I went to the apple store today and looked at the new 2011 mbps. They had plenty of AG models on display and oh my, I was mighty impressed. I think I'm going to be switching from glossy to AG here soon

(I'm big into photography but I do the majority of my editing on my 27" ACD. The AG would be bought purely because I use my mbp outside on campus so it would come in handy imo.)

Didn't you hear? The anti-glare screen transforms into an umbrella and shields itself.

And how am I trolling when I'm the only one here providing photographic evidence to back up my claims of glossy superiority? I'm not wasting people's time with worthless anecdotes like "to each his own" or "they're both nice."

In life...pick a side and defend it with your life. Those who are on the fence are destined to get splinters on their @ss.

Antiglare reminds me of :(

Glossy reminds me of :D

You summed up the problem perfectly. See, contrary to what you think, the glossy vs. anti-glare IS personal preference. There are pros and cons to each, which is why some people prefer glossy and some prefer anti-glare. The point (I think..) of this thread is to help people decide which is best for them based on the real world experiences others have had with each type.

I'm not sure at what point the wheels came off the wagon and you decided that this is a duel to the death that will result in a winner and a loser.
Your repeated attempts to "prove" that one is superior to another is where you're going wrong. And the snarky jabs and fanboy'ish bravado is where it turns into trolling.

Well said.

Just came back from the Apple store where I spent 45 minutes comparing a 2011 15" MBP AG to a 13" Glossy side by side. I have 20 x 17 vision and I could not see any appreciable difference in brightness, blacks, color, or whites. I looked at a lot of different photos, and there was only 1 in which the AG looked slightly washed out compared to the glossy but the difference was extremely subtle and barely worth mentioning. I did my best to recreate the recent picture posted at Anandtech but could not. I have no explanation for that picture?? There was a slight graininess to the AG but once again subtle. The glare in the store was atrocious (worst case scenario indoors) and the AG put the Glossy to shame. I'm no fan of the silver bezel, but for me, function wins over form. I walked away truly impressed with the AG and have converted!

I agree. I'm actually a fan of glossy but the anti-glare they have now is significantly better than the matte screens from two or three years ago. Unless you only play videos (which the glossy does look slightly better at) the anti-glare to me is clearly better as long as you can live with the silver bezel.

Only on this forum do people prefer anti-glare, because you're all trying too hard to "think different." Get over yourselves.

Jonathan Ives picked glossy. Deal with it.

My personal preference is antiglare. Like a lot of the folks here I work hours on my Mac and I noticed that matte is just easier on my eyes and can work longer without getting my eyes tired.

My only concern is people like my clients and customers tend to POKE my screen (sometimes with a pen or pencil!) when I do small group presentations (and its a big part of my job). This wont be a problem with the glossy scratch resistant glass but I'm sure it will leave small marks on my bare anti glare screen. I've been trying to find a screen protector but so far every product I've encountered was designed to protect the default glossy screen.

Then you should deal with the fact the people have different preferences.
