That's like saying you should ignore factory-induced nicks and scrapes on your iPhone because it'll look like **** anyway after a few months.

Almost, but you really can keep an iPhone looking good, without significant wear and tear. A leather band worn on the wrist, will absolutely show wear and tear.

See post #6.

Don't confuse normal Apple markups with quality. The rubber band likely costs less than $2 to make, yet Apple charges $49 for it.

Did you understand what my rant was about? I wasn't confusing quality with anything. In addition, I'd much rather have a quality band that is more expensive than... what Apple is currently offering in leather.

Also, analysts suspect that the Apple Watch is the most profitable (highest margin) product Apple has ever made.

So would leather seats, but would you accept a factory or dealer-induced damage to the leather in a brand new car?

I think one would accept an insignificant detail like the one the OP has. I throw the question back to you. Do you bring out the magnifying glass and go over every inch of the vehicle when you buy a new car?

I probably would check pretty much everything but most people wouldn't obviously.

Doesn't really matter. A significant scratch on something small like an iPhone may not be a big deal on something much larger like a brand new car.

Again, there might be other problems as post #6 indicates but I don't know enough about the classic buckle to comment.

If you demand the same perfection from a new car as you do from a watchband, you will probably never own a new car, for you will never find on that meets your standard, and after a while you will not find any dealers willing to work with you.

That's why people don't have the same criteria. Something that sticks out like a sore thumb on a phone may not be the same way on a car.

Just stop. These leather bands are LOW quality, manufacturing defects or not.

Oh... and high quality leather bands look great for 5+ years.

Not necessarily. German cars are the highest quality cars and having had parents that got a new one last year. I can firmly say it was good enough for me.

I find the attitude of some people rather strange. When I've just paid £600 for something I expect it come out of the box looking perfect and I also expect it to be fit for purpose. If it has a defect right out of the box or develops one within 48hrs of getting it then it's definitely not fit for purpose and the OP has every right to request it be replaced.

I have no idea why some people here are acting this way. While I'm not sure I would've bothered to start a whole thread over it, I would jumped right into the car and went to the Apple store or called Apple for a swap on the band. These responses about using a sharpie are just silly. The OP just bought the damn thing, why should he "fix" a manufacturing issue. I wouldn't be happy with it either, especially if I just got it a few days ago.

Quality leather watch bands (and dress belts) are made of 'one piece' of split leather that's then glued and/or stitched back together (that's how they get the loop at the end). Even "high end" watch bands are made this way.

They rushed a bit on the OP's and left some glue in the hole. You can just flick that bit of glue out and be done with it.

I have the same band as you and don't notice it, so I'd have it swapped out. That's what the warranty is there for.

$150 is still grossly overpaying for this level of quality. For that price the bands should be fully stitched... you know... like quality leather watch bands are.

In the watch world, $150 is hardly anything for a quality leather band. Heck, $549 is considered cheap for a link bracelet.

They are mass-produced quality. ECCO, also known for mass-produced shoes, makes them. $150 certainly has a lot of markup, but it's no different from what you'll pay for a "genuine" Movado or Tissot leather band. I typically got about 2 years from those bands before they wore out, and expect about the same from this one. It's actually a bit thicker than what I'm used to, so it may last a little longer.

That sucks not only because I've seen a lot of defects with Watch but because I ordered the same SS Classic Black Buckle, I ordered on 4/10 at 12:04 and is still processing. What a disaster this launch has been!

Look at the iPhone forums after every launch, and you'll see thread after thread about defects. It's bound to happen with a mass-produced product. The vast majority are defect-free. I have the same watch as you, except in 38mm (as I already have mine). It is defect-free from what I can tell, and feels very substantial in hand, yet comfortable on my wrist. I'm happy with my purchase and how this launch went for me.

Yes, I totally agree.

I ordered a leather loop but everything I have seen in videos looks totally artificial. Not like a real leather band at all.

Seriously? This is fixed in 5 seconds with a #11 hobby knife. Good grief. What precious little snowflakes many consumers are; heaven forbid you have to actually correct something.

They're poorly made and Apple is taking us for a ride. Forget the hype, they aren't much better than a band found on a $50 watch from Walmart. Got a chance to see one today while at Best Buy. A guy I went to school with had one, didn't look that great.

I have the Green Sport, and while it's comfortable, charging $50 for it is also a ripoff. Hopefully Apple allows third party bands, that's when we'll see real quality.

But OP, I know you spent good money for your watch. I get that -- but something's aren't worth making a fuss over. It's so little, and it's almost OCD to let it bother you. No product is perfect.

And real garbage too. I do really like my Milanese. I know it's overpriced too. It is really nice tho.
