I was able to download the 3.0 Build on my Windows Machine but do not know how to install it.

The name is:
iphone_os_3.0_gm_seed__iphone_3g__7a341.dmg.smi

In iTunes 8.2 I hold the Shift Key down while selecting Check for Updates and it brings up the dialog to search my disk drive. When I navigate to the folder it only show files with "*.ipsw" which does not match the file above.

Any idea how to install a ".smi" file on Windows iTunes 8.2?

To get it working on Windows, you'll need to download an app like PowerISO. Open up the .dmg file and then extract the .ipsw.

All you need to do then is a shift update as normal.... but make sure your device is registered on apples dev's website otherwise it wont be able to activate/work or something like that....!!!

BTW I don't know why yours has downloaded with .smi on the end???!!!

I have the new build for my phone now, installed and everything. But how do you enable the MMS? I have AT&T of course.... lol

Please read Apple's website, engadget, gizmodo, macrumors, or any single site on the internet that covered the event...AT&T will not enable MMS until later this summer.

Damnation! It looks like this isn't actually the RTM version, but still has the locked coded activation and timebombs.

Damn, I upgraded to the GM version and the text still sits too high in the messages input field. They didn't fix it!!! I knew they weren't going to. What a bunch of crap. Also, the default.png images don't match some of the apps. This doesn't seem like a gold master... What kind if crap is this?

Spaz,

What's the baseband version of the GM?

I'm curious as to how much progress has been made in cell tower to handset communication.

Also, mine didn't have to connect to Apple to check if I'm a developer.

I did an update from beta 5 instead of a restore and MMS and tethering are still working.

tethering is still workin for me on ATT. Has since the first beta and updated carrier file. I dont believe you can make it work anymore though. You had to do it before the previous updates to itunes as you can no longer update the carrier file via option+click. MMS does not work for me however I have never spent any real time trying to get it activated.

Thanks "Eyes". I download PowerISO and extracted the ispw file. I did drop the .smi off the end (just in case). Anyway, the install went very smooth and my phone is working like before without any problems. Other then seeing a new App on the home page "Voice Memos" it looks about the same. If I run into any problems I will post them here. Also, I did register my phone on the develolpers site some time ago (I think) so not sure if it would work if I had not. You would think that since this is the GM Build then I should not have to do that.

Question:

I have Beta 5. If I don't install the GM and just wait for the regular release next week, will I be ok to just install that one?

What about the beta itunes I have installed?

Will all that just correct itself??

I don't have it in front of me, but that language in the updated T&C about possibly being locked out of the final release next week - no one's concerned about it?

Just updated and it didn't have to delete any of my info, yay! now backing up with encryption =]

new app store feature

Just found a new feature in the app store. Instead of having 'updates' in the bottom menu it has 'more' instead. You can then drag and drop which icons you want on the bottom of the menu bar, like on the iPod app. This is the only new feature I've found so far.

On some other websites, they are saying, that 3.0 GM can be installed and used by everyone.
Does anyone know whether or not thats true. Would it be illegal to do it? Could they even sue one for installing it?
Because if it is legal, I'll try and install it. If it isn't I don't want to risk having my Serial number blacklisted or stuff like that.
