On some other websites, they are saying, that 3.0 GM can be installed and used by everyone.
Does anyone know whether or not thats true. Would it be illegal to do it? Could they even sue one for installing it?
Because if it is legal, I'll try and install it. If it isn't I don't want to risk having my Serial number blacklisted or stuff like that.
It's your phone man. Why would it be "illegal?"

:)

I was able to download the 3.0 Build on my Windows Machine but do not know how to install it.

The name is:
iphone_os_3.0_gm_seed__iphone_3g__7a341.dmg.smi

In iTunes 8.2 I hold the Shift Key down while selecting Check for Updates and it brings up the dialog to search my disk drive. When I navigate to the folder it only show files with "*.ipsw" which does not match the file above.

Any idea how to install a ".smi" file on Windows iTunes 8.2?

The .dmg file file contains the .ipsw file. You have to extract it from the disk image file.

For Windows the following programs can open .dmg file:

Acute Systems TransMac
DMG2IMG
DMG2ISO

Edit: oops I didn't realize there was one more page behind that question. :)

Push Notifications and Battery %

I just updated and have no 'Notifications' in the Settings menu or battery % option in usage. I'm guessing I have no Notifications menu because I haven't downloaded any apps that use Push yet but what about the battery % thing!? I really wanted that. Have they removed the functionality?

I updated from Beta 5 that had tethering and MMS working but as soon as I was done and disconnected the phone from the Mac tethering disappeared and it now says I have the ATT Carrier file of 4.0?! WTF? Ugh I want my tethering back!!

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Sorry. That was just funny.

I upgraded to 3.0 and now my data connection doesn't work. It just says could not activate cellular network. Anybody know what might be wrong?

can't log into my visual voicemail, says call at&t. I'm on the phone with them so lets see what happens.

I restored from an old back up and tethering has reappeared! Syncing now with iTunes to update all the apps that have updated in the past month or so. I will see if tethering survives. They weird thing is it still shows ATT 4.0?!

Ok, if some non-dev-team people could put cydia, icy and installer on beta 5, how much we have to wait to find a method to make it on GM?
And also: we should start planning reactivating blocked features on the GM version.

I'm pretty sure you can't jailbreak this/change locked features because of iTunes 8.2. It won't allow a jailbreak, nor a change to the carrier files.

Dan

But the process could be done trough a 8.1.x itunes, after jailbreaking the system would continue working with itunes (even 8.2 after jailbreaked)

iTunes 8.1.1 doesn't recognize iPhone 3.0 software.

Ok, but it did on beta 5, also does anyone knows if the pre-release version breaks the jailbreaking too?
Is it real-life-situation confirmed that 3.0 GM only installs trough 8.2?

Not positive. But I was able to install 3.0 GM on 1 iPhone 3G and 2 iPhone 2G using iTunes 8.2. Then I tried to install 3.0 GM on another iPhone 3G with iTunes 8.0 (found out later that it was not 8.2) and it got unknown error on iPhone. I tried several times and gave up. It was later that I realize the machine was not running 8.2. Have not been able to try again. Maybe tomorrow.

On the DEV Site it says:
You must be running Mac OS X v10.5.7 and iTunes 8.2 in order to install iPhone SDK 3.0 GM Seed and iPhone OS 3.0 GM Seed

However, I am running on Windows in both cases. So it is not totally true. But based on above and my experience I would say you need 8.2.
