But frankly, it's a very Jobsian approach to things. The removal of the disk drive, nobody liked that, everybody on the forums and Facebook was complaining about it, but to that he said, "Look, guys, flash storage really is the future. Get on board, you'll see that." That's kind of what we're saying here, in fact that's exactly what we're saying.
Since when was Facebook a thing in 1998? Flash storage either, for that matter.

lol I am using Macs and am deep in the Apple ecosystem and fandom since the late 90s but I cannot remember any uproar about Apple transitioning to SSD vs. hard drives. That's such a weird analogy. Was there ever a huge uproar I missed?
Rather the opposite, I feel it was an ongoing joke for how long Apple insisted on keeping some Macs in portfolio that used a mix of flash and hard disk storage to save costs.

They're mostly comparing it to other fossil cars, I've been driving EVs for almost a decade now. The instant reaction and power, no noise, no smell, and just charging easily at home instead of going to gas stations is already there.

I currently have a Jaguar, my next one will probably be a Volvo, BMW, or Audi. Electric, of course.
... any car, but not audi please, reliability sucks, just got rid of two junks and got 2 Lexuses

Someone’s butt hurt over at GM. The 'Jobsian' pull is kinda silly. Sure, flash drives were the future but there are ubiquitous - customers are not limited to a single manufacturer. Getting in a car and not having the option to integrate a devise that is with you pretty much all day is silly. I guess we’ll have to 'sign-in' to our cars in the future. WebOS - i mean GMOS.

All I hear GM saying is we want recurring revenue from the drivers of our cars after they buy them from the dealerships. Whom the latter are likely not going to see a single penny of revenue from.

Ok, so scratching any GM off of my list. No big loss. And this is just so they can own and sell the data. NO REASON other than that to not offering people a choice.

Delusional. I will never buy a gm car. The ignorance. The arrogance. GM has never had quality software in any of its cars. Ever. There is a reason people prefer apple and android in their cars.
Exactly.
Why waste resources on "in-house infotainment option" when Apple and Google will take care of the option for you?
Use those resources to build a better vehicle.

This decision shows a real lack of confidence in their own ICE product. If they truly believed in it, they’d leave CarPlay/Android auto in place and create something better, which of course their customers would embrace.

You can’t claim your offering is the best if you have to eliminate the competition in order to make people use it.

Remind me not to buy a car from GM. Oh, wait, wouldn't have anyway. I've owned three GM cars. One in college ('80 Sunbird). One was inherited ('01 Monte Carlo). One was a '93 Saturn. The first two were garbage, and the Saturn caught fire just sitting in the driveway.

Well, this maybe a Strategic decision, but not Jobsian, but Waterloo. Not implementing CarPlay Ultra is one thing, Talking away the choice to use your phone as an infotainment system is another. No way in hell would I but a GMC car now. For the same reason I never considered a Tesla - even before Musk finally fried his brain completely.
The World is pretty much divided between Android and iOS… keeping both out of your Portfolio because you want to make people believe you can do better?

I recently got the opportunity to sit in a brand new top spec Cadillac Escalade. I can understand now why they're doing this. There's no way Carplay would be able to match that experience as a whole and not make it incongruous with the Cadillac design language.

Oh no. Now the people that cry about Rivian not having it and they'll never buy a Rivian can also now never buy a GM product.

General Motors began phasing out support for CarPlay in its electric vehicles back in 2023, leading to complaints from iPhone users, but the company has no plans to back down.

In fact, GM is going further and plans to remove CarPlay from all future gas vehicles, too. In an interview with The Verge, GM CEO Mary Barra said that the company opted to prioritize its platform for EVs, but the change will eventually expand across the entire GM portfolio.

When asked if users should expect that new gas cars will not support "smartphone projection" for CarPlay or Android Auto, Barra said "I think that's the right expectation. Yes."

GM Chief Product Officer Sterling Anderson suggested that GM's decision to embrace its own system is a "very Jobsian approach to things" that he likened to phasing out the disk drive.

Anderson said that GM's in-house infotainment option offers a "much more immersive environment" and can "do so many more things" than CarPlay.

In EVs, General Motors transitioned to an infotainment system that it previously called "Ultifi." GM said that eliminating Apple CarPlay gave it access to direct integrations and information that it needed for its electric vehicle line, plus the company claimed that an in-house unified solution was the better option for consumers.

Starting with the 2028 Cadillac Escalade IQ, GM is rolling out a centralized vehicle computing system that it says will overhaul how GM vehicles are built and how they can be updated over time. GM will share software across its portfolio, including all electric and gas-powered vehicles produced by its GMC, Chevrolet, Buick, and Cadillac brands.

Sorry but I’m just not going to invest my time in learning some quirky UI unique to that brand.

If they can’t make transmissions that reach 20k miles without destroying themselves, I don’t trust them anywhere near software.

I can’t think of a single American automaker that makes an appealing product right now in fact.

I've never had a GM car.

My current car is my first car ever with CarPlay, it's a 2023 Kia Niro Plug-In Hybrid, averages 80 mpg.
My previous car was a 2013 VW Beetle Turbo Diesel. CarPlay came out in 2014, but not for VW's until 2016.

I won't get a car without CarPlay anymore.
