As of 7am this morning (CST), mine was working again as well.

It's likely that there are multiple servers tied to different batches of accounts... so it's possible that they're all just slowly coming back online. As of this morning, mine was also not working; hopefully when I get home and next let Mail check my mail, it will be all happy. :)

I had this problem not to long ago. What it seemed to be is that since I'm on a university's Internet, their packet shaping what not that good, so everyone's speed was reduced, and this caused my problem with Mail.app and iChat.

What I found to work whenever I went home was to just clear out the cache (Safari, Mail.app, etc.) and reboot.

This worked for awhile until they had a packet shaping problem, again. So, maybe you should try testing to see if it's your connection...

ARE YOU OR HAVE YOU EVER INSTALLED PEERGUARDIAN?

There is a bug in the list that causes it to blacklist gmail and gtalk that they still refuse to fix. Here are the ways to solve it.

1) Uninstall peerguardian

2) Disable Peerguardian filters ( run app and then turn off the filters ). Quitting peerguardian is not enough.

3) Create a custom list and add the appropriate IP's. It's a PITA, but it does work.

I had issues connecting to gmail via Apple Mail a few days ago, but it has been working since then. Unfortunately Mail now wants to make up for the fact that it has not crashed on me in a few months by catching up all in the same 2 day period...

i can receive mail, but not send. any ideas?
I swear, Mail.app sometimes "kids" w/ me and alters the server port settings. Humor us and double check that it's set to Server port: 587.

That and sometimes I just straight up quit the app and when I re-launch it, everything seems hunky-dory.

EDIT: i found the server port, and now it works! thanks

G-Mail / Apple Mail Fix

I removed the @gmail.com detail from my pop/smtp server settings and now it works fine.
