You don't even have to update anything at all! Just ignore that tab, go to the App Store and download whatever takes your fancy. Drama over. Sure, T&Cs have to be agreed to, but you do that wherever you buy anything - online or in the real world.

You don't have to scroll through every page of the terms and conditions btw.

You don't have to but there is a certain amount of wisdom to reading through what you're agreeing too. I mean you should read a contract before signing it right? This is similar, to a point. if the OP wants to keep using the iPad, or update it, he'll have to agree to the terms.

Well, last week I had booted Windows 7 on my iMac and it asked if I wanted to update, so I said OK. Then, without thinking, I booted up Black Ops and was making some real headway through a mission when, reboot! Evidently, the little reboot question doesn't come up in the middle of a game.

NOW, THERE WAS SOME REAL DRAMA! :D

Not really. You can configure Windows to NOT automatically reboot during updates. So you just were not holding it right...

After all the time you spend dissing Apple, and on these boards, and "you're holding it wrong" is the best line you can come up with???? That's sad....at leats be original or get some new material.

Goodness! I've just been hitting the "Update None" button all these years. THAT's why my apps aren't updating. Thanks everyone!

OP, in whatever dramatic world you live in, maybe Update All is crucial, but please learn that when you hit that button on your iPad, your life becomes simpler and easier.

Take a deep breath and enjoy the experience the next time. :)

While that is true, the OP obnoxiously overexagerated it.

So, after page 3, I agree to agree, without really knowing what I've given up to Apple by agreeing (first born, organs for the non-benevolent dictator, etc...).

I think if Apple were taking our organs and new borns, we would have heard about it by now.

Boss has an iPad.

Boss going on trip that it would be nice to have Prezi (www.prezi.com) app installed. This is mainly due to the inability to run Flash native, btw...

First, I go to App Store - 5 updates. I select what app to update, in which I am immediately taken back to home screen. So, I must do this routine 4 times in order to update all apps. On Android, I just keep on clicking through apps, never leaving the Marketplace.

Next, I go to install Prezi. Now, I have to agree to updated iTunes policy. I read through first page, get to bottom. Guess what, this is page 1 of 35 WTF!

So, after page 3, I agree to agree, without really knowing what I've given up to Apple by agreeing (first born, organs for the non-benevolent dictator, etc...).

Then I finally get to install Prezi, Success!

No, not success...

I am informed that once I sign into my account from a computer, I'll be able to continue on this magical carpet ride Apple provides it's users to actually USE our devices.

This is a small business, and we have an iTunes account for company devices. I open up my Virtual box install of XP, deny those chances to update to iTunes 210-and-a-third and go straight to our account settings to "Check for Purchases," Success! I see Prezi downloading to my iTunes, in Virtual Box, which I never use.

So again, I try to install from my iPad, on a wifi connection...same stupid error.

So, I am currently downloading the latest iTunes to my bosses laptop, so she can download the latest iOS for her iPad, so we can install a Prezi app, that has the world's crappiest reviews to date.

And people say Ubuntu and Android are confusing platforms to a new user, please spare me...

I think I'm having one of those F my Life moments.

You can select each app and view the updates.. then select the "update all button". I hate seeing the little numeric icon on any of my apps, so I will keep everything updated. Usually the updates are good. As for the new Terms of Service.. I'm PRETTY sure on my iPhone when that came up, all I did was hit the agree button at the bottom and moved on, without having to go through each page. Maybe that was just common sense for me cause I had an iPod Touch running 2.0 then upgraded to 3.0... and now I have an iPhone 4. I'm just used to all the tricks I guess! I haven't played with Android much, but it seems not as easy to get used to. I would advise to calm down, take a deep breathe, and just have fun with the iPad. =)

Thanks for posting here. I saw your fail on the Ubuntu Forums, but they closed down the cafe for server upgrades, so I couldn't give you the INTRENET HERT you deserve.

1) You can update everything with one click. Did you not see the update all button at the top of the list of apps?

2) Flash sucks, it kills battery life. Everyone knows this. No one cares about flash anymore except for haters.

3) I don't know why you even tried to read the terms of agreement. Every device/software has this.

4) Ubuntu is by far more confusing. Try finding a tablet that will work with Ubuntu well - and won't have to be rooted/ROMd/customized to hell to work well or work at all.

Guys, please ease up on the original poster. He/she wanted to rant on an internet forum, and in some ways internet forums are for that. I think it's better to help them through their issues so they have a better experience next time, isn't it?

Even things like "Update All" may not be readily apparent to all end-users.

@asifnaz, I think you understand that there's an "Update All" button and will probably use it in the future so you don't have to click multiple times.

The fact that the App Store kicks you out after you hit update is poor design on Apple's part. You're in the App Store and should be able to continue to browse, since there's nothing you do on the Home screen for the application to update. A jailbreak extension fixes this App Store behavior, but I wouldn't recommend it for you.

Second, regarding the iOS version update, some apps set minimum iOS versions that they will install on. Sometimes these minimum versions are arbitrary, and developers don't completely think through how far back they can go (for example, look at Memovator's minimum requirements on the iOS App Store). I'm sorry this was confusing for you, but next time I think you can check the minimum OS version right in the application description itself. Also, I believe your iPad warns you that a minimum iOS version is required when you try to install.

I can't imagine these OS version to app version dependencies are any easier on Android..

I don't think you should block iTunes from updating itself or anything. It seems like by doing that you are only aggravating any frustration you're experiencing.

The updates can be frustrating when getting a new device. You should know from linux though how important it is that all pieces of the system be at their proper version before you are allowed to operate them. You need the latest iTunes to be compatible with the latest iOS so it can update your iPad which requires the latest Software License Agreement. Then once your OS is up to date you have access to Apps rated to run on your device and OS.

As for the updates it is rare that a developer breaks their app and leaves it broken for more than a few hours, because of the user reviews. If an update breaks the application users will be very vocal and developers don't want those bad reviews. The Apple culture is that you always want all your updates. This is evident in the fact that you can't install older versions (there are ways but for most users you can't)

So look at it through the mindset that in iOS the developer is responsible for everything and you as the user just use the software. No system admin required.

Um, what sort of computer are you using iTunes on? Running what OS?

Wait ! I am from Linux world and here updates are provided where they are absolutely necessary .

As for " update all " I don't think its wise to update blindly without know which update I require the most and which is in the bottom of my wish-list

Well, you might very well be comparing two different modes of thought - the Linux "Wild West" where files are either frivolous or suspect and the Apple "Gated Community" where most clicks to update are safe.

Well with the recent caps to my data usage, I only update my iPhone on Wi-Fi now.

iPad is wifi only so that gets updated on wifi of course. I just hit the magic 'update all' button. If there are new terms, it's 2 buttons to accept? Where is the pain you are referring to?
