I originally have a 16 GB 3g iPad, and last week I ordered the iPad 2 also in 16 gb because I couldn't justify the premium Apple is charging for its largest storage iPad which is still only 64gb.

I just saw this and I will definitely be getting it and thought a lot of people would want to see this:

This is actually quite nice, You get this 500 GB hard drive for $200. Plus you can stream HD videos to your iPad (You can see in the video a 1080p clip streaming very smoothly)

So whats your thoughts? Do you think its a good solution, or do you not like it?

Cheers.

I have this, and it works great. Up to three devices can connect to it, all watching different video.

Not so great for music, unless you do a lot of work creating specific folders, etc., but I purchased it specifically to house my video library so that's not a big deal for me.

No, I don't find it an acceptable solution.

The beauty of the iPad is not having to carry anything but this nice thin, light tablet.

If I want to add weight and lug extra stuff around, I'll use my laptop instead. My laptop has 2 500 gig hardrives built-in, numeric keypad, a MUCH better processor, does absolutely everything including playing just about every imaginable game, has blu-ray and a really nice, 17" high resolution screen, and it only weighs 6 lbs.

Uh, I guarantee you that my iPad and Seagate Satellite are a lot easier to carry around when traveling than my MBP. Hell, I can just turn the Seagate on and stick it in my purse, or pocket.

+1 for the Seagate Satellite.

I am really impressed by this HDD. it took about 1 hour to transfer my entire 300GB iTunes library to the Satellite, and now I can have my entire library on the go.

Yes the Seagate app leaves a lot to be desired but hopefully they will continue to improve the app and add features.

hmmmm...1 hr to transfer 300GB?!

i'm more than skeptical.

I have one and I use it with my iTouch. I, personally, think that it's not the best to use with pictures/music. However, I think it's a great idea if you're using it for video. I love it because it frees up space on my iTouch for music and whatnot and I can still have all my movies with me without having to worry about excluding some of them because I don't have enough space on my iPod hard drive. It does take some work to convert the movies into playable formats but, I'm working on finding a full-proof way. http://closetnerd4ever.blogspot.com/

The app and sorting sucks... I think Seagate knows that. FORTUNATELY you can use other apps with it. I have used 2 or 3 others. One adds playlists, so I stick with that one mainly as I like watching TV shows in season order. If the "folder browser" mode would allow me to select and play (impromtu play list), I wouldnt use anything else. As it is, it doesnt do that.

No complaints, other than there is no internet connection when you are using it... not even with 3G iPad. That is something that I think needs changed... it is too cumbersome to switch back and forth.

did it never pop into your little brain that I might have a USB3.0 pci card installed into my desktop and the Seagate Satellite is a USB3.0 drive? that might actually explain my answer, but if you dont want to use your brain then I guess I have to explain things to you.

well you failed to mentioned that your transfer rates were over a wired 3.0 connection.

moreover, since the thread is a discussion about the use of the Satellite with an ipad eg. performance over the wireless interface, why are you even bringing up information that is irrelevant to the original topic. after all, the main 'benefit' with picking a Satellite over other USB3 capable drives is the wireless capability. why would you bring up performance numbers using a wired connection?!

next time, don't leave out important details in your post or even better, try to stick to the relevant topic.

do you think your little brain can manage that?

yet you are the one who didn't believe I had those transfer speeds and called me out on it, so your the root cause for my response...

as for the performance over wifi from the Satellite to the iPad is great. I have the entire Game of Thrones season 1 converted to 720p on the Satellite and have never seen an issue with streaming these episodes.

I purchased one for $150 new on ebay and it's wonderful. I have movies and TV shows on it. My 64GB iPad2 is all photos, games, music, books & magazines. I just like being able to watch 'Chased by Dinosaurs' or 'REN & STIMPY' anytime I want. :D

Only problem I've found so far is reading. The app scrolls when I'm used to page turns and when I try to load epub into ibooks it can sometimes kick out. Since most of my reading is done directly on my pad I don't have this problem often but it does exist.

I heard about some issues with GoFlex and their UI and software being crappy.
Do you guys highly recommend it now? I have a 32gig iPad 2 and just ordered a 32gig iPhone 4S.
My iTunes library is HUGE and I want to carry most stuff GoFlex can handle.
