I will never buy any Apple product without AppleCare+. With the case I’m using now, I actually like how thin it is and I can still show off the color.
I’ll never buy an Apple product with it personally as it’s such an overpriced insurance policy in my view. I know it’s popular with posters on Mac Rumours but my devices are already covered much like most peoples. It’s been dismissed by financial journalists in the UK as being an extravagance rather than a need due to most people already having insurance on devices through banking and property cover. The fact a single AC policy costs almost as much as insuring a £500k house and its contents for me is laughable, but whatever works and I appreciate Europe is very different to the US on this regard.

I only buy AppleCare+ because my credit cards don’t carry insurance and the job I have I am always dropping my phone. I like thin cases and I know they don’t offer much protection if any. I feel more secure with my $1.5k phone or any devices having insurance. Plus the theft and loss from Apple is cheaper than the insurance offered through my carrier and is guaranteed to give me a refurbished device from Apple vs Asurion with Verizon. I will admit I like Europe’s policy when it come to electronics vs the US.

I don’t see it as comparable to insurance, because it covers product defects for the length of the term. An insurance policy doesn’t do that (to my knowledge). If I had had AC+ on my 7+ when the charging port stopped working last year, Apple would have swapped out my phone. I didn’t, so I had to buy a (refurbed) 8+.

And even with respect to accidental damage/loss (the subject of this thread)—I haven’t checked the deductible on my HO policy lately, but I suspect it is higher than the cost of purchasing AC+ plus paying its deductible. There are also inconveniences even to things like AmEx purchase protection—you need to send in the damaged product for inspection, etc. With AC+, you’re paying for convenience, to some degree.

Steer me to your insurance agent! My annual insurance for about the same amount costs 22x the cost of Applecare, but earthquake rates this year had a big increase due to the fires (?).

My home and contents insurance for this year was around £320. I’m covered for loss and damage of personal belongings including devices up to £10k. I’m with a company called Direct Line but am based in the UK where earthquakes are rare and mild lol.

Home insurance here doesn’t cost an awful lot.

I have always used AppleCare + on iOS devices. I go back and forth with an Apple case. I hate the feel of the leather when it gets hot or the feel of the edges of the case that surrounds the screen. I actually put the case back on today for the first time in months. Mostly due to where I place it at night on a glass night stand.

I am going caseless since launch and my 12PM is still in brand new condition. I am generally careful with my stuff. The only thing i use is a Fitbag pouch which keeps it scratch free when i have it in my pocket.

Yeah, I'm in the U.K. too and my home and contents policy with Direct Line is just under £200 I believe. It does seem those in the U.S are getting a raw deal with insurance.

I also pay £13 a month to Nationwide for breakdown cover, travel insurance, and phone insurance. I looked at AC+ but found the cost of it very prohibitive. On a joint account too, so it's even better value as it covers both of our phones!

You guys pay £200/year for homeowner insurance(!)? What’s the deductible on a policy like that?

As The-Real-Deal82 says, the excess varies. I think for most things mine is between £200-400 (compulsory+voluntary) but the most we’ll pay is £1000:

Subsidence excess = £1,000
This is what you’ll pay to make a claim because of subsidence damage.

Always cased up. Ever since my first iPhone. All of them I got top dollar when I went to sell them because they were pristine. I’ve never had a nasty drop and I bet the moment I decided to go without a case I’d drop it.

Lol, I've gone basically caseless the majority of the time since the original iPhone. I never cracked or shattered any iPhone since I'm super careful. Even going out on a night out of debauchery--I always got lucky.

Until this year where I shattered the back of the phone for the first time in my life. $600 and the inconvenience of going to the Apple store and waiting... sucked.

Guess who's part of the screen protector and case crew now? 😂

I have AppleCare + on my 12 Pro Max. I dropped my phone on the sidewalk after a drunken night and I didn't have a case on. The back of my phone got a hairline scratch and a few nicks on the corners of the phone. Apple only charged me $99 to repair it. The hairline scratch wasn't huge but I plan on selling my 12 Pro Max when the new iPhone comes out. I didn't want to lose any value by selling it cracked.

I go with the official leather case + AppleCare+. It is the one case worth checking out even if you are a case hater.

I’m not a fan of Apples own cases, always felt they were over priced and if a poor quality personally. I think there are so many nicer cases out there from the likes of Caudabe and Nomad that offer better aesthetics, slimness and durability whilst being cheaper than what Apple puts out. My opinion of course.

Personally I wouldn't dream of using any phone without a screen protector and case; iPhone or not, Applecare or not...

It's just far too risky and you only need to be not paying attention for a split second and you'll regret it!

I've got the ESR tempered glass screen protector and Spigen Hybrid case on my IP 12 Pro Max

For me, I baby my devices and that does well by my OCD 😂 But I'm a competitive powerlifter & stone lifter; my hands are rough with the use of chalk and lifting stupidly big stones, so for those reasons alone, keeping the screen & phone protected makes a lot of sense

I second the Caudabe cases. I have 4 and I love 3 of them. The Veil frosted white is going back. I love the thinness, but I don’t like the way it feels in my hand. Currently I’m using an off brand silicon case from AliExpress that resembles Apple silicon case. I wanted to see if I wanted to actually pay $49 for their case, but I’m going to settle for the 4 off brand silicon cases from AliExpress. I don’t like how slippery it is and it’s hard to remove and put in my pockets.

I’ve got the Caudabe Sheath as it’s slim and has a decent amount of grip. Looks awesome too.

All those years not getting AC+ and you are still ahead of the game.
