Financially it's obviously not the best move, because the internal advantages are minor: FaceTime camera upgrade, slightly more battery, more LTE bands (good if you travel overseas).

Subjectively, the 5C does feel better in hand than the 5, and the design is great IMO.

It therefore comes down to whether you are willing and able to sped the $249.

I like the look and feel of the 5c, but I also like the extra tech. on the 5s. I want the finger print scan, the better camera and video features and the extra motion chip feature. I will use all of these features. If they didn't matter to me I would get the 5c because I do like the colors and I usually don't use cases.

My contract is up and I can sell my present phone for more than what either phone will cost me so money is not in the picture for me.

Another thought would be the resell value of the 5c, might be much less than a 5s. If that matters to you.

How long until your contract is up ? Is it worth $200 for you to wait until you can get the 5c (maybe or 6c) for a little as $50.

My wife just upgraded her 3GS to a 5C today, white one. I was a little sceptical of the 5C before hand, but after getting it home and setting it up for her, I really like the way it feels in my hand. The plastic back is perfectly nice and perhaps its rounder edges give it something over the sharper edges of the 5/5S. If anything, it's just the colour options that put me off...

For me, I've got the 5 just now, but as an upgrade junky, I'm looking forward to my 5S due to be delivered tomorrow...

It doesn't make any sense from a logical standpoint, whatsoever. The battery is 5% larger, and facetime camera is better, although not for facetime itself as that's now heavily compressed.

However, from an emotional standpoint, you may be more drawn to the phone's look/feel. That's up to you and you alone. I do agree that it feels nicer in the hands, but a case on the 5 could do the same thing.

Plus, the 5C will scratch still (glossy finish), and you could just keep replacing the cases on a 5 for whatever your heart desires.

A better question could be... is there something/some things that you may better enjoy for $249?

You could nearly buy an iPad mini for that (used or whatnot). Or an Apple TV. Or a bunch of music. Or a new monitor for your computer. Go on a nice outing. Nice headphones. etc etc.

If you have lots of money and don't care, then that last bit is irrelevant. But for many, $250 to have a nearly identical phone experience vs all kinds of other new experiences and toys/upgrades.

Nope, not crazy because I did the same thing. The 5 is a nice phone but I found it very uncomfortable to hold. I loved my 3GS from a few years ago and after holding the 5C, it felt like a nice throwback to that phone so it was a no brainer for me. It doesn't bother me that it's basically the same phone as the 5 but if I'm going to be holding it for long periods of time, I need it to be comfortable so the 5C is worth its weight in gold for me.
