I haven't had this particular surgery, but I did have part of my small intestine removed when I was a teenager (I have Crohn's Disease).

You've already had (or are currently having) your colonoscopy, so all I can say is that I hope you got a sedative. I don't actually remember any of my numerous colonoscopies, and I'm just fine with that.

Enjoy whatever drugs they have you on following the surgery. I remember watching a "Chuck Wagon" dog food commercial while high on morphine in ICU and it was the funniest thing I'd ever seen. The recovery is rough, like any abdominal surgery, but it's pretty accurate to say you'll be up and walking within 3-5 days. Just don't let anyone punch in the gut or anything like that.

Best of luck!

Years ago I heard about a highly successful treatment for Chron's they were doing in Austrailia. They basically liquified poo from a donor and squirted it in the patient.

Did anything come of that? I can't find reference to it anymore.

Eww.

Sorry, haven't heard of that one. All of my experience with Crohn's has to do with squirting liquified poo out, not in.

Oscopy went well, sedated. The area to be removed only seems to be confined to a 6 inch area so the removal will be on the lighter side. Also the troubled area is at least 4-6 inches from my arse so that makes me happy, less pain in that area ;)

Surgery at 12:15am eastern tomorrow. will drop in and give an update when im lucid enough.

I have the entire season 5 of lost cued up on my iphone, missed out on it because I had a newborn so it will be good time to catch up... A few comedies as well... Looking forward to being able to eat Italian sausage again, its been a no-no for almost 4 years because of the diverticuli... "Italian Sausage day" at my place Oct 15th!!

Oh yes, thanks for all the well wishes and testimonials. Its a BIG help :)

There was a story about this in the health pages of one of the daily commuter sheets here a while back. This is an effective treatment for people who've taken antibiotics that wipe out the 'friendly' bacteria that normally populate the bowels: the donor poo re-colonises with 'friendly' bacteria, reducing the risk of harmful bugs like c. diff.

Wow.. gross. Just stick with probiotics. :)

Interesting. In a sense, the modern version of using leeches or more recently, maggots. :D I admire the advances in medicine, but must say I hope I don't have to try one of those... 'interesting' remedies anytime soon. Better someone else than me, I say. ;)

Just take it easy for a few days :)

I had my gall bladder removed a few years back (surprisingly that's not an "essential" organ either), and it was a pretty quick procedure...I was back up and around in about 3-5 days.

The Colon Fairie

Did you leave the sectioning out for the colon fairy ? At least you have your iPhone and the Lego you wanted may be derived from the translation: Lego=Leg Godt=Play Well. Anyway, it's good that you're out and in recovery mode. Just do what you're told !

Still no fart but lots of gurgling...
Took a while to get my plumbing operating again, twas quite uncomfortable. Last night was incredibly painful, even the painkillers didnt help. I seemed to have gone over the hump and am starting to feel better.

The 4 puncture wounds are the most painful and my actual large intestine doesnt hurt much at all. My back is sore as well.

Like i said, the movies my wifes takes of my kids with her iphone helps me feel less alone. We dont plan on having them visit so this is the next best thing :)

I'm not sure how you will fare of course, but that gurgling and other associated sounds are still with me after three plus years. I am thinking of auditioning to the sound effects department of the next exorcist film. Or any other horror that could do with my specialised talent.

I'm glad to hear you're slowly improving. I understand perfectly what you mean by sore back, believe me -- been there, done that for something similar. Now, I have just one tip for you at this point: enjoy the experience at this point (best you can, of course), because when else do you have lots of people really excited about a fart and not mind it at all? :D

Great to hear the iPhone is doing great with helping in keeping in touch with loved ones. Sure wish we had something this good a few years ago. :) Hang in there.

brett favre had a similar thing done and he seemed to turn out fine ;)

Glad to hear you are recovering well.

You so should have titled the thread "Going to have 10" removed on Tuesday..."

I would have put you in the "funniest thread titles" post immediately. :D

Hey Freeny,

I was curious as to how you're getting on this far after the op? How is everything working? I have a similar issue and just trying to prepare myself as much as possible. Like you, I'm quite young as well so it's all been very unexpected and quite scary!

Cheers.

Yes, I know this is not political but I only hang out here :p

Have had chronic diverticulitis for several years, hospitalized on more then a few occasions. Not looking forward to it but it should save me from an even more horrible surgery if I wait for an infection to rupture.

So on Tuesday I will go in and have 8-10" of my sigmoid colon removed.

Any one have this done before?
They tell me I will be fine and normal in a few weeks and walking in about 3-5 days.

Does surgery start after that apple keynote?
