I've never felt bored with a smartphone. There's are way more websites to visit, shows to watch, games to play and content to create and consume than I have time for. It really is virtually unlimited.

I agree. It's like complaining the TV technology hasn't advanced much, and the TV (hardware itself) is getting boring.

Having played around with the Samsung s7 edge I stilll think my iPhone 6s is a lot smoother and faster. I came from a Samsung galaxy s5 which ended up as a lagging mess. My iPhone never slows down after long term useage. The only thing android has got going for it is a lot more customisation.
I here this a lot. Seems when new, Samsung are competitive but after some time and/or an OS update something happens. Also since the 64 chip archictecture the custom apple chips have taken the raw performance lead. Seems mixing too many chefs spoils the stew.

Not so much having the phone for a while and more to do with how Android (Touchwiz) handle RAM management.

I'll be curious to hear if Pixel owners have any issues over time.

I've used this analogy myself. Once TV hardware is satisfactory the hardware itself no longer really matters. It's becomes entirely about the content.
