Maybe they should match Sprint. Then I'll be happy.
OMG, I hope not, Sprint has lousy coverage in my area, and they don't even come close to matching the FAN discount that I'm getting with AT&T. And Sprint doesn't have the iPhone. :apple:

Not to belabor the point, but I'll throw my two-cents worth in. :p

I am doing just as the OP proposed and was curious to see if I would have any problems with AT&T.

So I was with a friend in an Upstate New York Mall earlier today and saw an actual Corporate Owned AT&T kiosk, spoke with one of their senior associates, I believe a manager, and told him exactly what I was planing on doing.

He told me out right that he thought I was being a little sneaky, but that according to AT&T's policy and procedures that they would not give me a problem and that what I had planed would work. I would have the new iPhone HD and the unlimited data plan, no problem.

I have had my iphone 3G for almost 2 years. I am good. I got my ipad 3g on release day and signed up day for the for unlimited $30 a month 3G plan. I am good. No hate for ATT here.

Rumor is that sprint might get the Iphone 4G by end of this month...we will have to wait and see.

As much as I want a Verizon iPhone, I seriously doubt this. Even a Verizon VP said it won't be happening in "the immediate future".

i bought a 3gs yesterday at my local att store for $199. (yes, i know its at walmart for $97). got the unlimited plan just to be "safe". I will be returning the 3gs on 4G release to upgrade, as long as it comes out this month. I went ahead and paid $199 bc that probably going to be the price of the 4G, so in essence, my "pre-order" is complete and paid already:D

not to hijack this thread, but are these new data plans gonna be the only data plans available? right now att has the smartphone data plan, the iphone data plan, and the blackberry data plan. are all these being replaced by the DataPro plans?

Yes.

Wait but even if he uses a friends phone to activate an account on AT&T, wont he still be signing a contract? I was always told in the store that even if I wanted to activate my 3G I got from my boss that I'd still need to sign a contract and can't go month to month.

Just out of curiosity, everyone basically has unlimited now right (Wasn't that a requirement to get data?) so does that mean that everyone is grandfathered in for now? So when the next iphone comes out and we upgrade, does the unlimited transfer to the new phone or will everyone be forced to switch data plans?

Thats the whole idea of being grandfathered.

Right.. I totally see that if you stayed with the same phone. I wasn't sure if once you had to upgrade your phone though (new two year contract) they would make you change data plans. I hope that made sense!

The purpose of being grandfathered is for those that change phones. If you don't change phones, you don't sign a new contract, therefore there's no "grandfathering" involved.

Make sense?

I think I see. So when we all upgrade we should be in the clear with unlimited data unless we choose to go the $25 plan! But once you choose that route, there's no turning back...

Well, my DH picked up an iphone 3GS off of Craigslist yesterday and went into the AT&T store and they said he came in just in time since the new data plans began today.

The rep said they're changing it because the customers complained about the price being too high for data at $30 unlimited. Whatever AT&T is full of it. They changed it to make more money off of people who will use way more than 2gb of data on the iphone. I can see people using 6gb and wondering why they have an extra $50 charge on their bill.

If it werent for rollover minutes I would be on T-Mobile. I wish T-Mobile would get the iphone. I hate non-GSM networks so sprint and verizon are a no.

Went on Apple's website and the 3G doesn't seem to be available for purchase. I was going to just pay the full-unsub'ed price so there wouldn't be an issue when I go to get the 4th Gen. Is there a chance a local ATT store would have one? How much are they unsub'ed?

They are extremely low in stock. You may have to call around until you can find one.
