The thing is there is no longer a "gold rush". I'd pay a max of $50 only because of the fact that your getting a few more months of AppleCare. Other then that, unless you really, really want gold, its not worth it.

The gold 5s will have a higher resale value than the white plus you're getting a brand new phone compared to your 3 month old white 5s. You could recoup that money when it's time to resell. I'd say it's a fair deal but at least hassle with him and see if you can split the cost. Think about this way, If you lost your phone and had to pay a deductible for a new one, it would be right around that same amount.

But I don't think he is really trying to scam me I think he just wants a 5s so he is willing to take my like new white 5s if I pay the 200 and take the new gold phone but after many great comments of advice I think I'm turning it down

He might not be trying to scam you but he's definitely not offering you a fair deal.

Think about it this way: Would you sell your white 5S for $450 right now (assuming 16GB)?

That's what he's asking you to do essentially. He's saying your slightly used 5S is worth $200 less than it was when you bought it.

Like others have said this is a bad deal for you unless you want to help your buddy out. Even if you REALLY want a gold one you can do so more cheaply than doing this deal.

Every one is coming down on him but where else will he find a new 5s for $200. He obviously isn't eligible to get another one subsidized. If you want the Gold and don't want to go through the hassle or buy a phone that is locked to a Apple i.d.(tons of this happening since ios7) then go for it. Your friend gets a free phone but has a line under 2 yr contract so in the end he will pay $240 over time plus activation fee. Both parties get what they want.

Your confused , I mentioned to him I wanted a gold model after he told me he wanted to get a 5s right , ok then he offered to give me his new gold phone if I pay for it and give him my 5s I currently have

So why are you asking here if this is a good deal? For most, it isn't. But it depends on what YOU consider good. It seems you want the gold phone. Is dropping another $200 on top of what you already paid just to change the color with it for YOU?

Yes?... then do it?
No?... /thread

I personally thing it's a rip. The only way I would drop an extra $200 is it it was for the additional storage size phone.

At point of sale, ask the seller to restore the phone from scratch. Set up YOUR Apple ID on the phone you just bought.

Not that I disagree with you about people coming down on the guy. If an extra $200 is worth it for the bling, then do it. But surely people on an Apple forum are going to tell him that spending that much money on a simple color swap is a bit ludicrous. Because for most people here, it is.
