Given that gold-plated AW with black classic buckle or black sport band look exactly the same as their Edition counterparts, you can't make the argument that they look tacky. Perhaps you consider the idea of plating tacky, but some people are of the opinion that artificial gold-colored aluminum is tacky.
Yes I can make the argument that the plated looks tacky because the op asked for other people's opinions, that's mine. As far as other people thinking that the gold aluminum looks tacky well that would be someone else's opinion and I'm fine with that. To me it's like gold plating a Rolex submariner, sure they make one but it's not a real one and to me looks tacky.

fania123 (upon seeing notrichdude's gold AW with black classic buckle): "Hey, is that the Edition?"

notrichdude: "What do you think?"

fania123: "I don't know. Looks real."

notrichdude: "It's actually gold-plated."

fania123: "Really? It looks tacky."

notrichdude: "But you just said a few seconds ago that it looks real."

fania123: "I mean, plating it is tacky."

As I said before, to me it's tacky. It's like taking a Mercedes S500 and putting S63 AMG Badges on it.

Haven't decided on a watch yet as I'm waiting to see the Hermés in person. I did however get the rose gold iPhone 6s+ yesterday.
