Successful enough to launch in other counties, or is it going to be Apple Cash all over again?

Until they can beat the 2% cash back on everything like Citi-Double does, this card makes no financial sense (except for apple purchases and select retailers giving 3%)

how is the citi-double? I have been look at it for a while. Is it really double on everything unlimited?

I have not used a debit card in decades. Credit cards and ATMs are where it's at in the USA.

An ATM? What’s an ATM? 😁 My point is, I live in America and I never use ATMs for anything. There’s no reason for me to. I don’t even carry cash anymore, and I couldn’t tell you the last time I even paid for cash for anything in terms of groceries/fuel/restaurants, etc. In my opinion, cash is becoming barbaric and unnecessary to carry in certain situations from my own experience.

I initially received a 12.99% rate as well, but now when I check it says 12.74% ! It went down! Anyone else seeing this?

I am also seeing this, it looks like the fed dropped the interest rate by .25% and that's being reflected on the Apple Card, another variable rate card I have also had a downward adjustment of .25%

If you come to NYC, you will still need to carry cash. Otherwise, your options are less. I actually tipped my hairstylist in cash this past weekend and bought something from the bodega.

I agree though, I would desire to not carry cash. But it's always safe to carry it because it can be the fallback plan that will get you out in a jam

Apple Cash? Hm, isn't that the function that I keep having to turn off all the time because it turns itself back on whenever there's an iOS update and at other random times? :p Seriously, I don't think you're missing anything.

Barbaric? What an odd choice of a word.

How do you tip a valet or bellhop?

That’s true, in some situations in larger cities, I can see cash still being very much an asset. I’m just spoiled living in this Tech era now where my Apple Watch, my iPhone, the Apple card have all provided convenience to me to the point where I don’t even think about cash anymore. It’s pure bliss.

The offer I received was 1/4 the balance for double the interest rate of my current card, so I passed. However, if consumers are accepting those terms in droves, and I worked at GS, I would consider that a successful launch too.

Exactly my scenario as well....actually offered me the max interest rate. As a lender I'd consider that successful if people are taking the bait. My credit score varies from 740-800 over the year..

Nah, not really. In My opinion, I just don’t have the need for cash to be carried on my person anymore. So I see this in terms of being barbaric where I don’t need to have cash, when I find contactless payment with an Apple card or Apple Watch/iPhone to be that much more convenient. It works for me, but may not work for others.

I cancelled another card I had and replaced it with the Apple Card. Cacelling a long time card actually hurts your credit score from what I understand. Now I find out that Apple/GS 's is not reporting credit use/history to the credit agencies. I pride myself in having excellent credit scores. Maybe it's just because it's new they are not reporting yet, but I certainly hope they do in the very near future so I can get back the points I lost. :(

why did you cancel it? you could've just stopped using it, couldn't you have?

They have now started reporting

The prime rate went down a quarter percentage point in mid September, in response to the same cut in Fed benchmark rate. Affects all interest rates tied to prime.

Is there any way to change or add categories?

Most of my purchases go into Food & Drinks. I would like to separate out Groceries and going out verse eating in. There will be more but that is my current issue.

I wouldn't say "larger" cities. I would say if you travel beyond your bubble. If I was in the same spot and never ventured out, I definitely agree with you there.

Then why, pray tell, is Goldman Sachs saying it is a very successful launch? If it makes no financial sense then why are people using it? Is it the usual reason, that Apple users are stupid?

It is interesting how conservative and skeptical many are here.
I haven't seen any other app that presents spending as transparently as Apple.
That's a big advantage for me.

I understand never using cash but be aware that when you charge a small item the vendor will be charged a minimum fee that will wipe out a significant portion of their profit. Mom and Pops have a hard enough time as it is, please don’t charge Altoids for your 2% cash back.
