I had couple of fully enclosed faux leather keychains I had purchased and returned because I also noticed the slightly muffled volume when playing “find my” sound. It was something I hadn’t thought about before I purchased but I figured if I were to one day need to hear them outdoors or in a loud room that slight lack of volume may be the difference between me finding or not finding my lost item.

yea, that's expected, i suppose. doesn't bother me too much.
 
Why not go vanilla? I mean drill through a part of AirTag and use it directly in keychain? ;) I used it already for 4 months without any problems.
