That's no problem - actually that's the reason for all this - a slew of girls are coming over. Oh yeah!

Just got back from the shopping. Got everything, except Red Bull; what I found was $2.50 per can! JEEZ! Screw that.

I paid 1.67 ea for 12 today

Grey Goose is my favorite but do be careful with it because it is sneaky sneaky.

I also really enjoy drinks with Stolichnaya. It is not as smooth as Grey Goose, but since it has more taste it is somewhat easier to notice how much you are drinking. Like I said, Grey Goose is sneaky.

Also, you can never go bad with Wild Turkey and some Coke. Chambord Royal de France is fantastic. And Tequila Rose. And Disaronno.

Ok, enjoy :)

A shot of Polar ice mix with a shot of Malibu and cut it with tropical juice (pineapple, orange etc mix)..... yummmm.....

Oh, and try cutting vodka with some milk.... I know it sounds strange but it is awsome.

My boyfriend just yelled out Gin and tonic.

Cheers.

ahh jager....well, hmm now do I describe it. Well officially it's a herb liquor from Germany I believe. It sorta taste & smells like cough syrup, but not in a bad way.

It's basically a super fun shot to do when your out on the town ripping it up because it tends to get you wired (aka hyper). I dunno what it is, but when I drink it I don't get tired at all, it just keeps ya going all night.

ok, this is really vauge, I'll just say some of my best memories with my friends involve jager.

It tastes like black licorice (fennel or anise flavor). Back in college we used to make a drink 1 shot of jager mixed with 1 shot of goldschlager cinnamon schapps 151proof. It was called a dead nazi because that is what you feel like after drinking one.

For the Tequila recommendations:
I recommend Don Phillippe or Patron (both about $30)

we call that one a screaming nazi but good times either way!

Yep, that describes it just about right. Jager rocks!

Ok here's my shopping list:

Bailey's
Smirnoff Vodka
Rum
Irish Whiskey
Tia Maria
Tequila
Triple Sec
Jagermeister

non-alcohol:
milk
cheap generic canned fruit juices
cheap generic liter of cola
red bull

Missing anything?

Sounds like you're off to a great start. Hope your party goes/went well. For the future, you'll pretty clearly realize what goes quickly and you'll end up buying all the time, and what is supplementary and will last a while before it needs to be replenished. That's the key to building up a full-service bar. You'll always be buying more vodka, but you'll be able to add the more obscure stuff bit by bit without having to repurchase it too often, like Drambuie, Benedictine, amaretto (go cheap), Frangelico (mmm), Galliano (should be really low on the list unless you're just mad about Harvey Wallbangers, and who knows, maybe they'll make a big comeback!), peppermint schnapps, butterscotch schnapps (for shooters)...

None of that stuff should go too quickly, unless you or people who come by are the types who will drink anything just because there's alchohol in it.

Grey Goose. Just get it for the looks. Makes you look classy
Hey, I'm no expert, but I think it's pretty smooth. I love the bottles though. :D

And vouder17, there's at least one lady here who does NOT prefer tequila. :p

Man, last night was awesome. Indeed, I learned what goes fast, and what doesn't. Along with the usual suspects (vodka and tequila and rum) the Bailey's went pretty fast too - they LOVE the car bombs. And the white russian is another one I get compliments on. The margarita is so-so, but I'm not surprised - many people like the sound of it, but once they drink it, they realize they don't like it so much. I don't like it myself :)

Anyway, last night rocked. Thanks guys for your advice!

Tough call. It depends on how much you want to spend (doesn't everything?). Although I only drink top shelf booze (mostly Chopin Vodka and Turkey 101 Bourbon) my suggestion would be to drop it down to mid-tier to low-level (mixer type) stuff and get a wider array.

You can always do what my buddy did when he first got his house and set up the den. He had a "Bar Stocking Party." He got a keg of beer and a bunch of food, invited about 20 close friends/family and asked each to bring a bottle of their favorite booze.

In college its a little tough to ask all your friends to drop $10-20 even on cheap stuff just to come to a party but I've heard of that idea and its neat.

I knew a guy who was a manager of one of the biggest bars/dance clubs here in SLC and here is one secret he let us in on:

Display the high end stuff but only use it if people are taking straight shots. If you are mixing it, get the less expensive stuff b/c the other ingredients will mask the taste to a degree. And if your patron is already blotto and taking straight shots, use the cheap stuff because they can no longer taste the difference (or walk straight or make coherent sentences, but they are really charming!).

The latest craze here is a Jager-bomb. Get a shot of Jagermeister and half a glass of Red Bull. Drop the shot (shot glass and all) into the Red Bull and scull! Tastes surprisingly good considering the taste of Jager.

How'd you make the margaritas? Most people are used to restaurant margaritas and haven't had "real" margaritas (tequila, cointreau, lime juice), which taste different (cleaner but harsher).

Restaurants tend not to use fresh lime juice and cointreau (which are expensive/inconvenient) and go for more of a lime/lemon/splash of OJ/sweetener type mix (for example) that works as an all-purpose sour mix. You'll get the same sort of taste out of the frozen mararita mix in the frozen juice section of a supermarket. Of course, it's really only convenient to make margaritas this way if you're making them in batches.

Oh there is not doubt that it is smooth. I love every flavor. Its just that at around $33 for a 1/5th, its expensive. And yes, the bottles are half the fun.

Right water down the sugary drink. It is still vile no matter who the drink is targeted for.

What's all this crap about "liquor for the ladies"? Some of us can hold out own and don't need the stuff watered down for our delicate alcohol tolerance.
Although I shouldn't talk, I'm a bit of a lightweight myself but its still bollocks...

<claps> absolutely.

i drink (and make) a huge selection of various vodka martinis... it doesn't get much stronger than martinis. no one need worry about all the little ladies and their tastes. ;)

If your setting up a bar for entertaining you need 2 of each of your liquors. 1 cheap bottle like vladimars(sp) vodka 4.95 a liter and one good bottle like grey goose. Use the cheap stuff with your bumming drunk friends and pull out the expensive stuff with the girls.
