Sounds like a pretty good idea from a marketing standpoint actually. Think about it this way. After Apple debuts the iPad, people will want to come to the Apple store, but many will go over a series of weeks after. Throw in some new MBP's and everyone will see Apple's kick ass new computers along side its newest creation after its release.

OP: I'm not saying you're lying, but all that you've given us is hearsay.

You have Apple. And then you have your friend's father, who works at Apple. You have your friend, who is the daughter of an Apple employee. Then you have yourself. That's 3 people from a credible source to us readers at MacRumors. That means 3 fallible links. There are just too many variables!

If I take your post at face value and assume you are not lying, and your friend is not lying, that still does not prove her father is not lying. Even if her father told her the truth, Apple may have intentionally gave out false information to throw us off track.

For all we know, the March 23rd date on those Best Buy boxes and this points only to one thing - Apple wants us to expect late March, to ramp up anticipation. They are merely red herrings! Therefore, we can conclude they'll actually release before late march. There are only two Tuesdays from now till late March. The 9th and the 16th. Also, late march is iPad time and they won't release it together, but close - to facilitate cross-promotion.

All in all, next week seems most probable, as it would have been 3 weeks after Aperture 3's release, which we all know is a strong indicator of the MBP's release based on past records.

"Strong indicator?" I think this is a bit of a stretch. It happened once with Aperture 2, right?

I detect falsity. One or all of the below is likely true, which basically means you are liking full of **** or should be ashamed of yourself (as should the rest of the people in your disgusting web of lies and betrayal).

1. You are not a trust-worthy friend as you have disclosed information that was given to you in confidence on a public forum. If your friend is knows you enough to tell you something that could have potentially devastating effects on her father's career, I am sure she knows you well enough to know that you can't be trusted with that information.

2. Your friend is not a trustworthy daughter. Again, I am quite sure her father knows her well enough that he would not disclose information like this for her to flippantly spout off to her friends. Or he did tell her and trusted her completely and she never told you in the first place.

3. Your friends father is not a trustworthy employee. Steve should fire him.

4. While macbook release dates are interesting to speculate upon, the question of whether she is hot or not is yet unanswered.

hmm, why does all the super secret information on this forum lately come from people registered in the last 30 days... seems odd that such insiders would just stumble across MR for the first time now...and it also seems odd that apparently no one who's registered before 2010 has access to all this confidential information...

Might very well be true. Been to local Apple store yesterday for laptop exchange. Genius told me that although refresh was around the corner, Apple would want to market iPad properly first. That would include staff training, one to one with customers, etc. All the regular stuff related to the introduction of completely new product. I personally think April-May is the right time for it. Especially after iPad craze settles down.

Says who? Dec 2009 :) I personally am not regular on MacRumors but curiosity about upcoming MBP got the best of me, so I joined :)

Translation: Let me waist money because I'm too impatient to wait. I will never understand these, "let me buy it now, and sell it in a month" mentalities, or buy now and return for 15% restocking fee. Some people have too much money to waist... If want one now, get it because you need it and be happy with it.

I'm picturing you with both hands on your waste as you say this....

I was told that it would be late march/early april by an Apple store employee, they based this prediction on the thousands of current-gen MBP's they had received a few days prior.
I doubt even the busiest Apple store in the world has thousands of MBP's in stock at any given time.

Hi all,

New to the forums, so Hola.

So I've been looking at the MBP buyer's guide daily for weeks now to check on the - more official - rumours, but it's driving me bonkers. The past few Tuesdays I've checked a few times a day...

Anyone know if there's an RSS feed or some kind of email alert that will just tell me when I can buy my new laptop so I can stop thinking about it?

No disrespect to the original thread poster, but this kind of thing just makes it worse.

Ideas?

Cheers all,

I have sinned and ordered a MBP yesterday... Well, maybe I have not gone that wrong with this step then. I should still be able to sell it for at least 90-95% of what I paid. It should be a fare price- I am an international student in the UK. Back home, MBPs start at 1000, I paid 800....

yea, i'm a new registrant too...but I'm also not claiming to have secret insight into Apple's comings and going either.

That's a little wierd. Did u ever ask her why they would release it on a sunday when that's never been done before?

I certainly didn't intend to aggravate people so much...obviously I can't really prove what I said- I stated it as a rumor, which is what this forum is about, no? No point in getting mad at me for saying all this when it's clearly not supposed to be facts, or anything. It's just what I've heard, and I thought it would be useful :) Speculation is speculation...my apologies if it sounded like I made my information sound any more important than a rumor.

hmm....you must be a politician.....

Wirelessly posted (iPod Touch 2G 8GB: Mozilla/5.0 (iPod; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7D11 Safari/528.16)

I'm gonna guess that she's average. Just cuz.

If apple releases it next week, it'll avoid all the iPad problems. *fingers crossed*

It would take weeks to months if it were a hardware problem, but as we all know, Optimus is a hardware + software combination. Besides, Apple writes the "driver" for Intel's GPU under OS X. I don't think they'd have the same problem as nVidia does because Intel doesn't want to play ball with it's Windows drivers.

Your friend's dad works for Apple? OK.

March 28th could be right but so can June 10th.

my birthday!!

but i know from personal experience (two friends with parents who work for apple) that their info can be very wrong...and these two friends would generally not lie to me, specially about some little apple release thing...

I believe you.

And assuming that you're correct, this article really concerns me.

Oh Apple

Apple NEEDS to adopt an i5, the ATI 5830, a higher resolution screen, Blu Ray, and some different color options with their next update or their brand name is going to take a big hit atleast among the tech community and eventually the general population.

But here is the upgrade that would be a dream come true and be a knock out killing blow to all other competing laptops. Because it would really make for blazing fast speeds, much lower power consumption and close to instantanous boot times...
I posted earlier about apple putting a small ssd into the next mbp's in addition to a normal hdd. I don't mean a literal 1.8" or 2.5" ssd. I just looked up how much an 8 GB NAND memory IC costs. Bought in a reel of 1000, it costs a grand total of $10. Integrated into the spot where the old north bridge used to be, apple could not only have switchable graphics but also hybrid drives on each of its systems. By shutting down the harddrive and using the flash module for most activities could result in vastly faster performance and longer battery life. Put the OS on there and you could be enjoying what, 10 hours of battery life and (instantanous) boot times. I could wait another month for that.

Here's the link for the NAND IC I mentioned:

I would even be happy with a Built in HD Radio/HD TV tuner with QASM cable-in

Oh Apple

Great article! As a new MacBook user (but I recently fried my 4 month old MBP with coffee) waiting for the next best thing, there's no reason that Apple can't lower the prices on existing models, other than arrogance and greed. Now Apple is bitching at Amazon's MP3 deal of the day albums. I never buy iTunes songs. Amazon's are cheaper, double the bitrate, and DRM free. It gets Amazon on my daily web visit list just for the deal of the day album. Apple can shove their 128 bit DRM'd songs up their arses.

Apple is turning in the soft, greedy, lazy slob they love to mock in their ads. Too bad there isn't an super new non-PC upstart to start mocking Apple. They really deserve it.
