Sadly, at this moment in time, he's correct.

Buy a cheaper machine, Windows OS - better results.

Mac - spend a ton more, get a better machine with MacOS - now... same result.

Apple had a market on the integrated machine/OS - they pissed it away.

Your ROCK, Tim.

I'm yet to have an experience on a windows machine as I have with my 2012 MacBook Pro 15" Retina. And I can't wait until they cram all the 15" quadcore power inside a 12" form like the MacBook.

El Capitan is the best OS X since 10.7. (I use Cubase, Pro Tools, Logic Pro X, Max/MSP mostly). If I remember the OS X 10.5 + Logic Pro 8 combo on an 8core tower, (8 years ago) vs 10.11 + Logic Pro X on this little laptop, this is better.

The sheer comfort of me being able to reply to an SMS on my laptop is just an added + for productivity. I spend 75% less time on replying to a text and I don't have to turn away from my screen.

El Capitan also had Library shown and unlocked by default unlike 10.7 which made it hidden by default.

I can get that someone prefers windows machines, i just don't get what has supposedly changed since WWDC...

Also - A new File System? That's ****ing incredible. That's as big of a change as 10.6 OpenCL.

lol. I use Win 7 at work with fewer problems than OS X. That is the problem. Won't be using Win 8 (thankfully). Bad sign when Win 7 is less frustrating that OS X.

Trouble is, OS X WAS stable for a long time. The instability in Apple is now felt in OS X and iOS. That kills workflow.

My son just bought himself an Alienware laptop. And yes, he loves it lots more than his Air which is now on eBay. We was first to jump ship. Not quite half the price, but it doesn't beachball/hourglass him and hang nearly as much. I'm next (but not getting Alienware). Even as I type this, my wife it walking around waiting for her Air to stop beachballing. It's getting ridiculous; we have never cursed Apple products so much as we have in the last several months. That goes for the iPhone too. Aren't you tired of TouchID failing and your touchscreen not recognizing your first swipe?? And then there's Spotlight failures, Safari not always responding on the 6 Plus in horizontal mode, and the random restarts and app crashes.

I have several macs all running latest OS X and I don't have any problems... but at work I have Windows 8 and it constantly has problems doing the simplest of tasks.

I have 2 mac mini's, and 2 PCs. One home built with Windows 10, and one 7 year old Dell XPS 730 gaming system with Windows 7. I hate to say this, but my PC's almost never give me any problems. Ever since I installed El Crapton, Finder likes to lock up on a regular basis on both of my Mini's. I'm not a happy camper with Apple right now.

Can't agree more. Itunes sync is STILL a mess, Photos is very inferior as a photo management than iPhoto/Aperture. Mail.app doesn't work reliably with Exchange 2007 (mails keep parked in outbox). Safari stops working when enabling/disabling proxies (chrome does not)... OMG

I miss you Steve.. When you're alive things just worked..

It doesn't seem to work reliably for anything Microsoft related to me. I have two computers and both have the exact same problem: they periodically refuse to authenticate with my outlook.com accounts; it asks for passwords that it won't accept despite webmail logging me in with them. It's not even logging an auth problem. The only fix I've found that works is to delete the accounts and re-add them, which I have to do at least once a month. Not fun downloading all of those messages again. None of my iOS devices have this problem.

What a POS. It used to be so good.

Well, after several years of Apple laptop ownership, we are going back to Windows on our next laptop. We converted during the "Hi I'm a PC" ads, and loved how the Mac truly just worked. But now, after it seems Apple has overextended OS X with features and neglected the everyday cleanup up of code, we can no longer justify the premium price. Our laptops hang, apps stop running, the iMac, Air, and Mini frequently bomb overnight, iTunes sync is a mess, the gray screen of death is becoming more common, and the spinning beachball is a common occurrence. Even my friends are saying that they "aren't as happy with Apple as we used to be." So, do I spend $1,800 on the next MBA, or do I spend $850 on a souped-up Windows PC? I can buy two of those in four years and still come out ahead. I hope that Apple is again worth the price someday.

Oh STOP, you're not going anywhere! Do you want some CHEESE with your WHINE?

[doublepost=1466037233][/doublepost]so.... you leave switch to a brand of computer because the hardware hangs, apps stop running and bomb overnight? LMMMAAAOOOO so what are you gonna do when it happens to your windows machine? hahahahahaaaaaaa

He'll be through the tier-1 vendors pretty quickly.
Though, with Dell, you can get next or even same-business day on-site replacements.
Of course, it's no longer really a cheap alternative then.
I wouldn't touch any consumer hardware (with Apple being the exception).
Business-class machines and premium support - or have many, many spares on site.
