The biggest issues I've ever seen mentioned are cancer (applies to all cell phones, though...jury is out), emotional problems (attachment to phone, avoidance of humans), vision issues (same as computer eye syndrome), and "text neck." That's neck/shoulder/arm/hand pain associated with texting posture.

All these are avoidable, of course.

If by "avoidable" you mean entirely unsubstantiated, then yes, they are.

I believe the decision is NOT wrong but the OP only gave it TWO MONTHS to get accustomed to that size. It took me months if not at least 14 months until I got used to the M7 size which is nearly identical to iPhone 6 but slightly thicker. I came from iPhone 4/Nexus One for years. And I think there is a bigger discrepancy going from iPhone 4/5 series to iPhone 6 than iPhone 6 to 6 Plus.

The key is getting a larger phone than iPhone 6. Not drastic like 6 Plus (unless you love iOS) or Nexus 6, but maybe something in line of Samsung Galaxy S5, LG G3, or Sony Xperia Z3. Once you get used to their sizes for awhile (2+ months), going back to iPhone 6 won't be so bad. It would feel compact right after. M7 feels just about right to me now because it no longer is the biggest device. It really all depends what your previous phones were and how long you got used to them and the current bigger one.

I bought an iPhone 6 2 months ago and gave the 5s to my wife.

Today I happened to play around with her phone after all those weeks. It simply felt WONDERFUL. The phone fit perfectly in my hands, I was able to reach every button, the text size was the same anyway so who cares about the screen size... It just felt right again.

I decided to let her have the 6 to see if she likes it. I hope she will, because it will be hard for me to use the big phone again.

I really hope Apple will put out a smaller version of the 6s like it was rumoured. Those of us who loved the original form factor feel rather left behind.

My gosh! The New iPhone 6 is really not that much bigger than the 5S. Maybe 20% larger I mean come on it almost feels the same size. I can't believe the number of people that I'm reading about that are going back to the 5S 4" inch screen. That is just way too small. The 6 has a .7 inch larger screen...wow, not a huge difference in my opinion! I guess if you enjoy the eyestrain then go ahead and keep using the 4" 5s. LOL

There's no eye strain. In the end, you get the exact same text size, just more of it on the screen (unless you choose the "zoomed" option which is really for people with bad eye sight in my opinion). Photos and videos are fine either way.

It's all a matter of what is most important to you. For some it will be the video camera (60fps), for others it will be to see more text on screen.

For me, it's one-handed use. I must be able to operate the phone with one hand because I might be feeding the baby, viewing the screen upsidedown in bed, etc.

Oh and by the way, I calculated and the iPhone 6 screen size is actually 33% bigger than the iPhone 5s :). It's not negligable.

My 6 and 6 Plus will hold me over till Apple releases their replacements.

The best size for my preferences is the 6 Plus. The upcoming models will have improvements based on everything Apple has learned from the current models. That alone will be welcome, and enough to motivate me to upgrade. :)

Your in the minority op. Love my i6 plus it's the only reason I came back to iOS

If you'll read the quarterly results Q&A, you'll see that the majority of the (Excellent) sales of iPhone 6 and 6+ came from android switchers. A very small part of the existing iPhone user base upgraded. That's according to Tim Cook himself.

So personally It think I'm not in that small of a minority. Sure, maybe people prefer the bigger phones in general, but there is a big part of the people that prefer the smaller ones as well. Think about how long people were advocating for the smaller phone size. Apple actually had COMMERCIALS to explain that. It makes no sense that suddenly everyone "saw the light" and such a small group wants to remain with the smaller form factor.

Well, I've been an iPhone user since the 4 - had the 5 as well and was very happy with the upgrade to the 6. Just my experience.

I personally don't believe that and think Mr Cook may have been using the opportunity to have a dig at Android by suggesting they are losing custom. I know upgrades in the UK were unprecedented this time around. I have heard very few people complaining about the size jump of the iPhone 6 apart from a few isolated threads on here. My wife briefly moaned about the increase in size but she adapted within days of using the device.

Out of interest how do they know how many people have moved over from Android? Do the carriers release information as to previous contract choices or is it a survey every iPhone owner is asked to complete when they purchase the device? I know I haven't been asked and if people switch carrier at upgrade time, I doubt information is passed on apart from a PAC code for taking a number with them. I think Tim has made an educated guess rather than relying on comprehensive data. :)

0.7" is the extra diagonal length. In terms of area it's 38% larger than the iPhone 5s.

Holding the 5s after using the 6/6 Plus does indeed feel nice but the lack of screen real estate kills it for me now. I'll take the screen size.

..I have to agree with this ^^^

Whenever I hold my wife's iPhone 5, it feels so much nicer and more comfortable in my hand, than my iPhone 6.

However, when I then see her playing games or texting or surfing the web on such a small screen, it all looks very cramped compared to the iPhone 6. Even when I try and type something on her 5, I just can't hit them tiny letters on the keyboard....!!!!

I'm glad I have an iPhone 6!

I'm pretty sure that lying on an earnings call is a federal offense and the SEC would be all over Apple if that were the case.

The way to know is simple: number of devices being setup as new devices compared to number of devices restored from a previous local/iCloud backup. Probably not all of those new devices came from Android, but the vast majority of them probably did.

Holding my 5s feels much more comfortable in my hand than my 6 does. I do go back and forth between using both phones. I have found that I use my 5s more than I do my 6. While I definitely have gotten used to the larger screen size of the 6, I still prefer the overall feel of the 5s.

Neither of them are really that big, it just takes an adjustment to get use to it.

Big and inaccurate assumption. I've had bigger phones that the 5s, though not as a big as either the 6 or the 6+, and it didn't matter how long I used them, I never felt as comfortable with them as I was with the smaller phones. Because they really are "that big."

Yes, SOME PEOPLE will get used to the larger size and like it. SOME will get used to it but NOT like it and prefer the smaller size. And SOME will never get used to the larger size.

People are different and like different things. Nothing wrong with that.

I always set up my devices as new, so does my wife, both our parents and quite a far people I know. It's a good chance to have a good clear out and archive old pictures and videos. I think it's pure guess work on his part and I doubt Apple will be prosecuted for making a projection or speaking freely in the media.

The 5s is perfect for me as well. I plan on keeping mine years and years until it no longer works:
- Jailbroke to keep it on iOS 7 so that it doesn't get bogged down with future iOS releases built for faster devices
- Jailbroke to take pressure off of using the physical buttons via CCSettings/Virtual Home so they don't wear out
- Stocked up on cases / screen protectors so 4 - 5 years from now if I need one they aren't hard to come by
- Apple services old iOS devices up to 5 years past their release date, so I plan to get a battery replacement here or there as needed

Of course this might not end up being necessary if Apple releases a 6s version the size of the 5s, but just in case they don't at least I'm prepared in a way for years to come as I don't plan on jumping on the phablet train most consumers are.

If you are not happy with the iPhone 6 whether it be size or whatever OP, then I think you should use whatever makes you the happiest. No need to justify your actions to anyone. Enjoy your 5s and get on with the important stuff in life. :)

I have the opposite reaction. Every time I pick up a 5, it feels like a toy. A toy that's impossible to type on because the keys are so tiny.

There isn't a single size for all.... Many Apple's users are accustomed to compact size high end devices, and the 6 isn't big but not very compact too.

People saying that its the minority who like smalls screens, nobody really knows what the actual numbers are because there hasn't been a comprehensive survey. Yes 6 and 6+ sales have been through the roof, but Apple has said many of those sales are from Android switchers who obviously like the bigger size.

I find the 6 too big. Basically if I can't use it one handed then its not a phone for me. The iPhone 5 I have is the perfect size for me and a lot of others I know feel the same.

Apple produced the 5C for a minority of people to buy, so I can't see them having a problem with producing a third size of the 6S (4 inches). It need not have the latest everything but as long as it has an up to date processor and RAM it would be fine. That way they'd be reaching to a wider audience anyway. For some people its not a matter of adjusting. For me I can't make One handed use work without shimmying the phone up and down to reach the top and bottom of the screen (and feeling like it will slip, drop and crack in the process).

The 5 and 5S are viable to use for the time being, but the 5 will presumably become slow with iOS 9 and the 5S with iOS 10, leaving users who prefer smaller screens with few options.

I too love the size of the 5S.

SO is due her new 6 tomorrow – so cannot really comment on it yet, but sure it won't be too much of a handful.

Cannot see myself ever going for a 6+... Had a year of an old Sony P1, that came with a stylus. Never again will I make the mistake of getting a phone that cannot be comfortably controlled with only one hand.

That being said – as much as I kind of hope :apple: keeps a 5S size as an option – the single biggest factor that has me think otherwise, is the keyboard. It's not necessarily the fault of anything other than my stubby fingers, and the screen simply being too small. Swype/Flex/Swift whatever have all been tried – I simply battle too much typing on the 5S. This alone has me thinking that once I go with a 6, I will also never be able to go back to anything smaller...

The 4" screen was pushing it as much as Apple could to still allow one handed use, so the additional screen size of the 6 does create an issue. Hey even the 4.3" android phone that I got a while ago is too big sometimes...
