Does Goodnotes have layers? I use Procreate with Pencil for "notes". It has layers which is good for creative alterations.
This is the biggest turn off for me. Why do I have to log into my Apple ID to use this app?!After my initial excitement, I find that creating a separate Goodnotes account is required…. I don’t want and can’t see why I’d need one. I’m looking for a product, not a service and certainly not a relationship.
I am a huge fan of Notability and prefer it more than GoodNotes. The latest updates are greatI always use Notability and have since 2017. I was grandfathered in so don't have to pay for the new subscription based service. I have never used Good Notes but it looks like a nice app. Notability has recently added a ton of new features, UI changes, etc that makes it hard to believe I still receiving all the new upgrades.
Yeah, you'll actually need two accounts-- your Apple ID to sync to iCloud and a Goodnotes account of unknown utility. I don't see the point other than to try to create a customer relationship that I consider done after the financial transaction is complete. This is the biggest turn off for me. I may be wrong, but I think one of their latest YouTube videos stated the AI for handwritten notes is coming later this year. You may want to factcheck me on that though. It looks like the AI tools only work with typed text. No handwritten text support. Also no actual content support, meaning the AI can’t be applied to the text of the actual document. We don’t know which language model it connects to. As far as I know ChatGPT continues to be the best model for pure text. So I wonder if it’s not the best to just prompt ChatGPT to get the highest quality results and paste them into GoodNotes. Particularly if you will copy & paste text off a document you are working on. Apart from the AI integration, the update seems cosmetic. I like the way handwritten, typed and spoked annotations are accessed.
In the near future, schools are going to have to make the hard decision whether or not to go back to mostly pen/pencil and paper, or give up altogether. Because AI is going to make it impossible for teachers to distinguish between cheating and legit work, and if you just turn your head and pretend the problem doesn't exist, you're going to have a huge swath of uneducated, untalented people with degrees, flooding the professional ranks... and that's not good for anyone aside from those who cheated (and even they will suffer in the end).
You're the only one inventing a problem where there isn't one. Buy the app or don't, no one is forcing you to use it.$30 for an App which does what Notes should do
Am I the only one who sees the problem here?
Same. I was happily using Notability until they switched to subscription.I purchased it as a response to the competition going subscription based. I think I’ll look into the discounted one time purchase for GoodNotes 5 users.
Have you tried the built-in apps in Windows?$30 for an App which does what Notes should do

Sorry to be cynical about it, but I consider plenty of people with degrees both younger and older than me to be in that category. Nothing to do with AI but with mentality. People who have a genuine interest and drive are very rare. I'm lucky to be working in an organisation filled with such people. My previous job was in a company where rank-and-file managed rank-and-file whose main goal for the day was to get out in the evening.you're going to have a huge swath of uneducated, untalented people with degrees, flooding the professional ranks...
Plenty of educational institutes have, fortunately, come to accept that it's better to teach how to work using the new tools, than to try and fight them. It will remain an ongoing struggle, though, as technology evolves faster now and education needs to try and keep up.It's like the calculator problem of old.
Are you defending apple by saying Microsoft do the same 😂😂😂😂Have you tried the built-in apps in Windows?

About trying to keep up - perfectly happy with my GN5 here. My handwriting is complete crap and I don't expect any form of intelligence aside from myself to figure it out. I have thousands of pages written that I hardly consult afterwards - it's a way for me to remember things better. But in case I need it, I can go back a few pages and check notes. What I really like about GN is that it's page based, just like a paper notebook. It's why I picked it instead of free canvas note taking programs.
Ah you're right. Let's celebrate Apple producing subpar productsYou're the only one inventing a problem where there isn't one. Buy the app or don't, no one is forcing you to use it.
