Ah you're right. Let's celebrate Apple producing subpar products
Not whining isn’t the same as celebrating. I’d love for Apple to improve the notes app, but there plenty of other things I think need improving/fixing first.

Besides, Notes is fine for what it is — a simple stock note taking app that comes with your phone. If it’s not enough for you, there’s a whole world of free and paid alternatives. No one is forcing you to but this $30 app. Find something free, find something cheaper, find something as part of another app suite… or, I guess, keep whining.

I'd rather Apple at least attempt to make decent software. I get the feeling they'd rather you buy via the app store so they can get more cash out of their customers then do this tho

They can’t make everything for everyone. That’s the entire point of the app store — you have options if the first party choices aren’t what you want.

I upgraded today. I’m pretty disappointed. It constantly picks up correct words as being incorrect and then if I purposely hand write a misspelled word and hit the correct word, the handwriting it corrects it with is illegible. In my opinion - a great idea but not ready for prime time yet. I wish I had done the trial instead of upgrade. Waste of money at this point.

I didn't realize that it tried to mimic your handwriting when it corrects a word. That sounds very problematic. I'm not particularly interested in these new AI-powered features. I'd be much more interested in better document management and organization...tags, smart lists, a usable sidebar, etc.

Apple's Notes app is more than decent. It more than serves the purpose of a simple built-in notepad. Apple's built-in apps all offer more than enough features for the "average" user. Your gripe about Notes could be made about Calendar or Reminder or any other built-in app. Not enough features compared to third party apps. It should be very obvious that this is intentional, for obvious reasons.

In the near future, schools are going to have to make the hard decision whether or not to go back to mostly pen/pencil and paper, or give up altogether. Because AI is going to make it impossible for teachers to distinguish between cheating and legit work, and if you just turn your head and pretend the problem doesn't exist, you're going to have a huge swath of uneducated, untalented people with degrees, flooding the professional ranks... and that's not good for anyone aside from those who cheated (and even they will suffer in the end).

I have a relative who teaches English on the college level. All assignments are submitted through an application called ‘Turn It In’ which checks for plagiarism and the signs of ‘AI’ written papers.

My niece and nephew use something like that at their boarding school. One AI trying to outsmart another AI…

CompUSA holds a special place in my heart. Where I bought my first Airport Extreme card to put into my PowerBook. Yes whippersnappers, Apple laptops didn't always have wifi, and when they did it was an extra purchase.
Every time we drive past the building that used to be CompUSA in Greenville, SC I tell my wife how much I miss going in there while she went to the clothes store Goody's next door.

I would like to clarify something.

I purchased Goodnotes 5 a long time ago.
I keep my applications up to date from the App store about once a week.
Today, I got a popup mentioning Goodnotes 6 and that "I could try it for free". After looking into it more, it seems that (1) I now have a version 6 something of Goodnotes installed, (2) it is not possible to install 5 anymore, (3) this will work only for one week as I am in some trial period.

Am I right understanding that I purchased a license for some software (GN 5) and this license was taken away from me silently when the upgrade to GN 6 was installed ?
If so, this is very, very shocking business practice.
