Would you consider adding support for PGS subtitles?

Would you be able to give a time frame on when that will be implemented?

There is no time frame for it. It is not simple task. We gave the 2 sample blu-ray files some tests on the desktop player, even on desktop player, there are some issues on the subtitle support.

Command: USER anonymous
Response: 500 'USER': command not understood

Sorry for the bugs
1. FTP: this is a bug, will be fixed in the 4.3 version

2. about the zoom issue, we tried both on iOS 4.3.3 and 5.0.1, we could not reproduce it here, if you have more details, please let us know.

About roll back to older version.

#39 After upgrading, the new GoodPlayer does not work for me, how to downgrade to the older GoodPlayer?

Please check the following 2 links.

----------

Temporary solutions for two GoodPlayer 4.2 bugs,
#a. the DLNA streaming does not work: please play the DLNA folder
(click the blue arrow icon of the DLNA arrow) instead of clicking a
DLNA file directly
#b. after inputting URL in the "Direct Streaming URL", it does not
play: paste or input the streaming URL as usual, if it will not play,
make sure you have more than one links in the URL list, using
previous/next playback control button to select the URL, it will play
as before.

These 2 bugs will be fixed in the next GoodPlayer 4.3 version.

For the zoom mode issue, now we can reproduce it too. It only happens in the iPod plugin mode. This issue also will be fixed in the 4.3 version.

Resume

Goodplayer doesnt seem to resume for me, from last location on any clips. If I switch to another app and go back to goodplayer i have to start the clip over again.
Resume is not as automatic as in the native video player. To get a clean resume you need to tap the screen for menu, then hit the blue "Done" button in the upper left corner. It will put you back to the files menu and you can exit from there. When you come back, hit the file name again and it will resume properly. This is inconvenient but it works.

This is the only negative I have seen. As I like to watch Korean period dramas, I love the way you can set font, color, and size of srt subs.

Althugh this is not the fault of Goodplayer, I do find that if file size is over about 1 gb (720p or 1080p) or over about 1500 bitrate, I need to convert down to have films run smoothly. I use MKV tools and AVI tools apps and adjust bitrate to 1000. On the small screen they look fine but if you take the converted files back to the desktop they are blurry. More chip power in future iPads may make this unnecessary.

Thanks, yes I convert everything to .mp4 to take advantage of the iPod plugin.

Try converting to .mp4 instead. It can handle 4-5000 bit rate file with ease using the ipod plugin. I use AVS Video Converter 8.1, does a great job.

Random / shuffle

@hustmobile is there any feature already / coming to play files randomly in a folder?
I am using my iPad in a car a lot and has many video clips inside a folder, would be nice if I can play random / shuffle within a folder.
Thanks

Btw, Great app! The only app i put a lot of media in.

Yes, it is supported. From GoodPlayer 4.1 version, Shuffle (Random) playback mode supported, GoodPlayer->Settings ->Shuffle

If you are still using older version, be careful of upgrading to 4.1/4.2 version, there are some issues on streaming feature and FTP uploading. You can wait for several days , the 4.3 version is coming.

Will AVS let you control size and color of subs burned from .srt files? I don't mind buying commercial software but do they have a trial period or trial version?

When I had an iPad1 I used Handbrake but the subs were way to small for an old man like me to read without glasses.

One disadvantage that I see for the iPad plugin mode is that it does not seem to have an inch forward/inch back control like the regular mode. I don't know if this is Goodplayer but I would guess it is a limitation from Apple.

Streaming divx/xvid avis in new version and other issues

Hi,

Sometime in the last few versions some issues have cropped up for me:

* Can't stream avi files of divx/xvid. MKVs still work. Plays <1 sec and then doesn't load any more. Same problem whether doing it in browser and pasting in the streaming URLs. Same source as used to work.

* Home page set in settings doesn't persist. Keeps defaulting back to google.

* Crashes on finishing playing direct streaming URL.

* When you hit back after playing a video full screen in the browser it jumps back to the google home page instead of the page you were on.

All of these things used to work fine.

Seems like yes there is a Trial. As for the foward/rewind, when you hold time indicator you can swipe up/down to adjust scrubbing.

Mirroring with FTP client

Hi,
I'd like to know if it's possible to stream videos to the iPad with an FTP client and then use AirPlay to watch them on a tv. The reason I 'd like to do that is I don't want to download the videos on my iPad.

Thanks

If it is iPad 2 or iPhone 4S, iOS 5 AirPlay Mirroring can do what you requested with GoodPlayer.
By the way, FTP streaming is not recommended since it only supports limited files. HTTP/SMB/SFTP streaming should be much better.

For iOS 5 AirPlay Mirroring support:

a. iOS 5 needed

b. iPad 2 or iPhone 4S, only these 2 iOS devices support AirPlay Mirroring now

c. Apple TV 2 with a firmware that supports AirPlay Mirroring, 4.4.2 and later version firmware recommended

d. set GoodPlayer Settings->TV-Out to "Turn on always", and set the "TV-Out resolution" to a value suitable for the TV

e. During the testing, Toggle Mirroring to "On" on the testing iOS devices (do not forget it!), check

I bought this hoping I could browse my network and stream video. I added an SMB share which it opened correctly, but I can't browse any further - nothing shows up.

Am I doing something wrong? Server is an unraid server and I'm logging in with username/password

In our testing, if it is nothing shows up, it is the authentication failure. Please check username/password again. You can also create a share folder to everyone accesss for checking.
Rebooting both idevice and smb server sometimes help.

Thank-you for the excellent app. Well worth the money. There's one minor issue I would like to see fixed..

Hi,

First I want to thank you for a nice application!

I would like to ask about how to get the goodplayer:// URI scheme linking to work.
I have a web page with links to videos, but I can't seem to get it to work. The link takes me to the player, and the filename (or rather, the last part of the URL) is displayed, but nothing is played. The http server receives no connection from the iPad.

There are no problems with the URL, I can access the file if I remove the goodplayer:// part.
I can also play the files if I use the browser inside goodplayer, but I don't want to do that. I also had no better results trying to do it through FTP.

URL Example:
goodplayer://http://192.168.0.199/Test/test.avi

Is this the correct way to do it?

Thanks for any help.
