Those who have embraced Google as their digital Holy Ghost simply can't fathom why those of us who haven't refuse to.
Quite similar to those who have embraced Apple as their Holy Ghost and can't fathom why others have not?

Those posts? What are you honestly talking about?
Here's another perspective on Nest & Apple vs. Google.
" Walter Isaacson, author of the biography Steve Jobs, said in a CNBC TV interview that Apple is now less innovative than Google, and that while securing the China Mobile agreement was a big deal, it was less important than Googles acquisition of Nest."

I was seriously angry and still am. I just installed the damn thing back in August when I bought my first house and dropped $250 on it. I love using itwas a wonderful addition and saves lots of money. Our house is almost twice as big as our old duplex but we use much less energy. And when we were out of town for Christmas and an ice storm hit the area I was able to turn up the heat remotely to help save our pipes before the power goes out.
But now it's going to get tied into the whole Google ecosystem. What sucks about Nest (and also makes it great at the same time) is that you have to connect to their servers to operate your thermostat and they track your usage and know when you're typically away from your home. You know Google wants that data, and even more so the nanny state does so that they can tax you every time you get cold and need to turn up the thermostat and are therefore being "wasteful". They will probably also force you to sign up for Google+ to use the service and by default it will automatically post each adjustment to some damned social network. And all of this doesn't even scratch the surface of future home automation products and the type of data that they could gather.
This along with the whole net-neutrality ruling have me in a pissed off mood with regard to anything tech. I wish the whole internet was just dumb, fast, and incredibly secure pipes. I could run my own server outside of all of these companies and that server would handle all of the automation of my home, store all of my files, etc. I just want to install a software package and run it myself. I've already been mulling the idea of building my own Dropbox and web server. I just need a fast connection with an ISP that supports net neutrality. Maybe I'll buy a MacMiniColo! I just wish I could have it on my own property so I know when people are jacking with it.
So now CNBC is getting technology business insight from biographers?
Anything to pump Google and dump Apple I suppose. Still the current narrative it appears.
What makes the story interesting to me is not the media outlet - but the source of the quote. You don't find it interesting that someone who wrote Jobs' bio and was a complete media whore about it (which I can't blame him for - but he was) is now speaking against Apple (in this case).
What do you think that means?
With all due respect: If Apple had purchased Nest It wouldnt use it to bomb me with Ads or Marketing or simply just sell out my Data . Period. Apple is very different from Google/Facebook whatever Personal Life & User Data Rippers
But again its just my opinion...Call me shallow if You wish but no thanks for Google or Facebook or any of those in my Private home & life
Regards

Ads are coming to "smart" home appliances, one way or another:
Smart refrigerators and TVs hacked to send out spam, according to a new report - nbcnews.com
But it's OK, as long as the ads are targeted, right? /sarcasm
Still trying to grasp what has to do hacking into appliance to send spam with anything related whith what Google would do with Nest
You mean, that if I kept my house extra cool during the winter, that a Google search response might include an ad for electric blankets, instead a random one for, say, baby food?
Perhaps he can explain the value proposition to you?

And the chicken littles now say what?
Oh please. Google can decide to change this policy at any given moment. And will, when it benefits their business model. Do you honestly believe Google simply wanted to be in the thermostat business?
Better a chicken little than an ostrich with his head in the sand.
You can choose to live in fear.
I prefer to base decisions and my opinions more on facts. And if those facts change, my opinion can change too.

It's all about perspective. 2013 was a valuable yet wasted year when it comes to Apple demonstrating innovation. Even the layman can appreciate all that Google accomplished in the past year. It's a true but bitter pill for Apple lovers, denial helps them cope.

Good thing I didn't buy it yet.
I don't want to see advertisement on my thermostat's display![]()
