No iWatch until 2015

Based on all of the reported hires that Apple has made recently that would indicate an upcoming wearable, I just don't see how they'll have anything even remotely market-ready by the end of the year, much less summer like a lot of people seem to believe. I am having a hard time seeing how they'll have anything ready to sell (by Apple's high standards) until spring or summer of 2015.

I would love to be proven wrong on this, but I'm starting to itch for a smart watch and Pebble is looking better to me all the time. Especially compared to Samsung's Gear and Gear 2...blech.

Pebble is actually very good. I seen lots of people using it and it generally received lots of good praise from users and reviewers.

Why would you think anyone making smart watch are trying to gambling with Apple? So you think just because there is rumour that Apple is making smart watch so everyone just rushing into the market? This does not make any business sense.

The iPad begs to differ. There were so many rumors of the ipad a few years ago and companies shrugged it off until they realized how successful the ipad was going to be. Apple's competitors were caught way off guard and that's when you had rush of half-assed android tablets to the market. I don't think Apple's competitors want to be in that position ever again so they take these rumors probably more seriously than the average person. Also, I think other tech companies may have a little more inside knowledge than the average analyst/journalist.

Poor Eric Schmidt, still grasping for air..

I dont think being worth over 300 million is being poor. I think most people on this web site would love to be like him grabbing at air. Its sad how Apple fan boys love to drag google in the dirt and never question Apple at all. I own several Apple products and keep myself balanced and grounded. Thank you :)

I hope Apple is working on something other than a Gear type device. I just don't see the market for that outside of tech geeks.

Hell, if it appealed to tech geeks, I'd be excited for one.

There's just not much you can do with a smartwatch that can't already be done considerably better and easier with a smartphone. The technology's just not there to make something truly mindblowing in that small of a device yet.

...but a health meter/activity tracker could be pretty cool. Not paradigm shifting, face meltingly cool like some of us are expecting, but useful at least.

WOW... Your blind loyal to Apple truly amazed me. I could only imagine myself a fraction loyal to Apple.

His blind loyalty? He's saying what he has learned from this thread, meaning what others think. Just read the thread about the Samsung watch, you'll see it.

What made you think that Apple's iWatch is guaranteed success and all other companies has to rush into market to get the advantage? Neither the world or the tech industry spinning around Apple.

I don't. As of now - there is no iWatch. There's also no iTV (which it won't be called anyway).

Only rumors.

Is Apple working on some type of wearable - likely. Will people compare it or or will it be an actual "watch" - who can say.

I am pretty certain that no matter how good or bad the product Apple releases in the future - there will be those on here who state that Apple did it right and everyone else had it wrong. This logic fails to consider that everyone has a different use case. Which is why - no matter which company someone states "got it right" is less meaningful (to me) then what I want or need in a device. So I'm glad there are always options.

And it will have this amazing feature

When it hears you talking about a product or service, it will show you an ad for that service! Amazing!

Question of the Day: Does Google like having one company controlling much of the android market (samsung) or would it like to see multiple companies equally vying for the top spot? I have noticed that Google likes to switch up which handset maker it uses for Google branded stuff every once and a while, so I would assume the latter. On one hand, the more competition there is in the Android market, the more fragmentation there is. But on the other side, the bigger one company gets relative to the others means it can pull more weight against Google and could also leverage that popularity to switch OS platforms or create their own OS. But, Android needs that one huge company to stand a chance against Apple. If Samsung were to ditch Android cold turkey, that would be a major blow to Google (and arguably Samsung) right now, but I bet it worries Google a little bit.

It would be funny if Apple weren't even working on a SmartWatch and Google, Samsung, Pebble and the rest were all gambling on the wrong competitor....

None of these companies care about making something great. They just feel the need to make something that Apple is going to make.

I think Apple has forced many companies hands to be first lest be accused of copyright infringement.

Google. What can I say...? It's.... just... so.... uh.... bleck.

...hold on, men in black just landed on my back deck...

I've postulated for some time now that Apple might just be letting these 'leaks' out deliberately in order to get Samsung et.al. To pour money down a rathole that Apple believes won't be a big seller. Then after they have spent a bundle Apple will blindside them with a totally different product.

At least that's what I'm hoping. I haven't any interest at all in a watch, smart or otherwise.

I imagine Tim Cooks remarks on "wearables" should be encouraging. Apple rarely makes things that just appeal to hobbyists. They always try to make something that solves a problem or provides a solution. I don't feel like "pulling my phone out of my pocket" is sufficient enough of a problem that requires Apple to deliver a solution, it's a solution in search of a problem. Whatever Apple is cooking up with deliver a more valuable solution than simply affording you to leave your phone in your pocket.

The Wall Street Journal[/url][/i] also adds that Google's smart watch will be compatible with a variety of Android devices, ...

I think it's a mistake to make it just work with Android (even though it's far easier to integrate watch-phone actions that way).

The smarter thing would be to try to make it compatible with every type of smartphone, the same way that Google made sure Google Maps / GMail / etc is available all over.

WTF are you taking about? Google has a LONG history of being the first to test a new type of product ex:Google glasses.

LOL, orly? One word. Android.

Apple wasn't the first to pioneer the smart watch, so to think they are all building these watches in response is ignorant (besides for samsung, who released a half baked product in order to beat apple to the market).

Oh ok when its SAMSUNG its not ignorant, but every other me-too is. Got it.

My guess is that most will be waiting for Apple's iWatch to come out before lining up to buy watches rushed out by Samsung, etc

Don't be ridiculous. I have nothing against samsung, I have owned a few of their devices and enjoyed them.

Pebble did not copy apple. There were various reports that stated samsung rushed the first round of the galaxy gear in order to get to the market before apple. The soon after release of the more refined, second round of galaxy gear seems to confirm this a bit.

No one is coping apple, though samsung may be trying to be proactive.

I know you're joking, but...

That's part of the reasoning behind Apple's iBeacons as well. You walk around a store / mall / stadium / street and get special offers / coupons... without having to speak at all.

The future is here, and it didn't even require eye-scanning. Just all us dummies carrying our phones everywhere we go!

Wouldnt launching an app for devices be the way to do it? Control the google watch on iOS or Windows through the google "wearables" app.

They are all trying to beat Apple to the punch with poor ideas and poorly executed products.

Maybe I can excuse Pebble...which in my mind is about as much of smart watch as a Kindle is a tablet.
