Those of us who have already been using the "AI" enhanced Google search via Chrome on a desktop will already know what the result will be: yes, an easy to read summary but one that can be easily misled by whatever the "AI" finds on some website.
AI isn't perfect but neither are humans. most people these days just read the title of the article and take it as fact without any context or evidence to support that title

Google says that the new "SGE while browsing" feature is meant to help people "more deeply engage" with long-form content from creators. It shows key points on articles freely available on the web, and will not summarize articles that are paywalled.
IS AI being used to a end run around browser tracking cache privacy algorithms?

Now we need Ai to work for us and go around ad-sense web block sites.
Maybe there is a command line for that. Ai fake out website not blocked with ad blockers.
I mean this is just AI internet Scraping right?
How to train the Ai Dragon (Next-Movie) Please.

Haven't used chrome in 10 years, not starting now.
I'll still stick with my Safari-Firefox combo.

...THAT SAID, I installed Edge on the mac as a side browser to use BingGPT occasionally, and it evolved to a decent browser...still, I wouldn't trust microsoft with my info
And you trust Apple? Just a question, not an attack

I find these features are often kind of like speaking to a sales employee, an FAQ chatbot, or a tech support person…

That is: they know what answer they’re trained to give you. And they’ll confidently respond as such.

But they don’t understand any nuance. Your situation is somehow different to the default? Your question involves an error, an exception to the rule, something uncommon? Let me continue to read the default response without any consideration!

I can only hope the AI is trained over time to properly interpret the entire search term in its deeper context.

First off, I am a (cautiously optimistic) proponent of AI.

However, what is the point of this? AI Precis.

Surely reading and comprehending something is a pleasure?

Why would anyone bother writing — crafting — a piece if it is all just TL;DR that matters. Decent journalism and reporting is already rare. And as for research, well, I only get to grasp information after I have sifted through it with my own eyes and addled brain.

The reading rot set in with Twitter all those years ago.
Short attention spans shrinking by the day.

Same with films. Go back a decade or two… (never mind further back!) and be surprised.
Actual dialogue that lasted a decent length. Apparently people could actually follow along.

Nowadays?
Wham! Bam! Boom! Thank you Mam/Sir. Next!

Nuance has gone. Critical thinking — granted, never an easy thing for the average Joe — is no longer a requirement.

👍 Exactly.
As an example many posts on MacRumours where commenters only react to the title (and perhaps the first paragraph above the main image) without bother to read the actual article.

Anything below the page fold (in old newspaper parlance) gets barely a glance.

Edit:
And for everyone loudly and proudly proclaiming their Google free world, watch this space: Apple is sure to follow…

AI can worsen our cultural tendency to judge things based on what we think we know. AI is cool, but cannot be trusted to provide accurate info. Vet everything.

Due to budget cuts at Google the "AI" functionality is a warehouse full of underpaid Foxconn employees in China all summarizing articles as they receive them. 😂
