Following last week's major redesign, the Google app for iOS has seen yet another update today that adds Nest integration. With the over-the-air update, Nest owners can now use the Google app to control their Nest thermostat systems, in addition to the standard Nest app.

As detailed by VentureBeat, along with in-app controls, Nest owners can also use the built-in Google Now voice commands to change or set the temperature.
On your mobile device, open the Google app and either tap the mic or say "Ok Google" to get started. Then say, "turn the temperature to 70 degrees". In Chrome, either tap the mic or type directly in the search box to set the temperature.
The Google app will also bring up Now card notifications based on location to help users adjust temperature even when away from home.

Google for iOS can be downloaded from the App Store for free. [Direct Link]

Nice, guess we will start getting ads for heating and AC services now. :) "Joes Heating and Air, We noticed your temp is a bit high, call us for a system tune-up"

Funny that when there's a problem with the app it makes it to the front page but when they add cool new integration like this it get buried elsewhere.

Just an observation.

Everyone seems to forget about iAd... why is that?

Is the Nest app now abandoned? IMO this feature should be part of the Nest App and not the Google App.
The right temperature at the right time

Google works with Nest to automatically deliver the right temperature at the right time. All you need is a Nest Thermostat and the Google app on Android or iOS. When you’re on your way home, Google will work with Nest to pre heat or cool your home to your preferred temperature. You'll also get a Now card to tell you what is happening.

Apple makes devices and services that only works with their stuff = That's perfectly fine.

Google makes devices and services that work with Google AND Apple devices = That's not fair!

1) links or it didn't happen?

2) because we've read apples privacy policies with iAd. it's more more restrictive than google's. look it up...

I like the look of Nest and though about buying it. But once Google bought them, I decided to stay with my programmable thermostat. Thanks Google, you saved me money for once.

:D

All those free services sure do cost a lot!

But, but, Google's tracking your every move! I don't understand how you can even live like that!

In all seriousness, people act like Google is the only company who sells your information to advertisers. I think if people don't like Google's actions and feel the need to boycot their services, it's only fair they also cut up all their "frequent buyers" cards, credit cards, cancel your mail delivery, stop using the Internet, and sell your television. All those services use targeted advertisements based on where you live, what you buy, what websites you go to, and what you watch on TV.

My utility (gas) company sponsored deep discounts on either Nest or the wifi-accessible offering from Honeywell.

When I saw the Google connection, I opted for the Honeywell.

The app isn't very sophisticated but it's good enough. Just like a regular programmable thermostat but it can be controlled via the app (Total Connect Comfort).

Please make an iOS 8 Widget!

They'll probably release a widget which has to be stuffed in the notification center for whatever reason, offers limited functionality and will then be removed and re-added for unexplained reasons after Apple gets some bad PR.

NEST! If you're listening then please make an iOS 8 widget for your app. Even if it's really simple like this:

[ - ] 72 [ + ]

"Google, what is the temperature of my room?"

Checking...
Uploading data to servers...
Contacting NSA...
Storing information for an indefinite amount of time...
Analyzing possible ad opportunities...
Comparing customer search history to this request...

"The temperature is 70 degrees. Would you be interested in buying some sunscreen?"

I don't understand the usefulness of this change.

Current process: Open Nest app, touch the screen to change the temp.

This new process: Open Google app, touch the microphone, tell google to turn up the temp and wait until the request is processed.

Now I do understand it on an android phone, I'd imagine it works like Siri and You just tell your phone to change the temp without having to open any apps.

Your loss.

Nest is owned by Google whose sole business is harvesting disturbingly huge amounts of private information about you and serving you ads, via Google Ads, based on that data. If you think Google does anything else, you're mistaken - anything else Google does is just a front to collect information about you and serve ads based on it.

iAd is a competition service from Apple.

Thus they wouldn't use iAd because they'd be handing their source of income over to their opponent for no reason.

LOL while I think Google is a legit company and friends who work there love it (including a bunch of Apple fans who only use Apple gear), I suspect that's their interest in Nest.

The more Google know, the better they can target ads... the more 'accurate' their searches are (at predicting what you want) and the more $$$ they make.

Bingo...
Doesn't mean they're evil or the world is ending but IMO it's something one SHOULD consider before using Google DNS, Google Search, Gmail, Google Earth/Maps, Google Plus...etc.

Facebook's founder said it outright... (I paraphrase) 'LOL!!! MILLIONS OF STUDENT JUST GAVE ME ALL THEIR PRIVATE DETAILS AND THEY TRUST ME WITH IT!!'

IMO using less Google untimately means more online privacy.

I think that the OP was saying that Google is not the only that does targetted advertising, not that they could use iAds.
