Right. My loss. Keep trying, skippy.
If Nest is better, and you're just not getting it because of some irrational hatred of Google, it is your loss.

Just what I needed, the ability to control room temperature using voice commands. How have I been surviving without this essential feature?
Do tell. How are those free services costing you?
"Google, what is the temperature of my room?"
Checking...
Uploading data to servers...
Contacting NSA...
Storing information for an indefinite amount of time...
Analyzing possible ad opportunities...
Comparing customer search history to this request...
"The temperature is 70 degrees. Would you be interested in buying some sunscreen?"
That's a pretty big if. I don't think nest is better at all. I've looked into it, it doesn't suit my needs.
I'm not sure from where you've drummed up this "irrational hatred of Google" you're assigning to me but google's privacy policies and actions did effect my decision. Which was, in fact, rational. But thanks anyway.
Privacy issues notwithstanding, the main reason I chose the honeywell over the nest was I want the thermostat to do what I tell it, not try to "learn" what my needs are. The learning aspect was intriguing enough to warrant a closer look, which I gave it. It doesn't suit my needs. It may very well be terrific for other people.

Apple makes devices and services that only works with their stuff = That's perfectly fine.
Google makes devices and services that work with Google AND Apple devices = That's not fair!
But, but, Google's tracking your every move! I don't understand how you can even live like that!
I don't understand the usefulness of this change.
Current process: Open Nest app, touch the screen to change the temp.
This new process: Open Google app, touch the microphone, tell google to turn up the temp and wait until the request is processed.
Now I do understand it on an android phone, I'd imagine it works like Siri and You just tell your phone to change the temp without having to open any apps.
Nest is owned by Google whose sole business is harvesting disturbingly huge amounts of private information about you and serving you ads, via Google Ads, based on that data. If you think Google does anything else, you're mistaken - anything else Google does is just a front to collect information about you and serve ads based on it.
You didn't try too hard then because the nest can do exactly what you tell it to do, without it 'learning' anything. So, again, your loss.the main reason I chose the honeywell over the nest was I want the thermostat to do what I tell it, not try to "learn" what my needs are.
