Is it just me or is it kinda funny that Google releases these Apps for the iPhone yet not for their own Android..

Google Earth - available for the iPhone but not android

Google Mobile App - available for the iPhone but not android

I figured developing for a competitor platform would be low on the priority and developing on your own would be much more important.. hmm guess not.

No.

Because Google is an advertising company and apple has 10 Million for now (30 million next year depending on economy) pairs of eyeballs they can put their ad links next to. (google phone MIGHT get to a half a million this year. might.)

and also because the iPhone is popular inside google.

just because you work for Hyundai, doesn't mean you need to own a Hyundai to work there.

If they can couple this to the GPS, it will be awesome. "WHERE AM I ??? !!!!" :D

"Where's the nearest Apple Store?"

A WIKIPEDIA Search would be awesome, if it could read the article to you!!!!!!!!!!!

User: "Engine"
Phone: "An engine is a mechanical device that produces some form of output from a given input. An
engine whose purpose is to produce kinetic energy output from a fuel source is called..."

That would be Awesome!

The same reason why there is no safari or iPod app available for the iPhone. I think these apps are already preloaded onto Android, so they wouldn't need to be released in any other way.

If this thing is not as fast as it would take me to do a google search via the iphone web browser or via the google search app, then it would be only useful to blind people with brail iphones.

As far as I know, Google Earth and this voice search thing are not included in Android.

in vancouver you are always standing next to one but if you want you can go to the one across the street :)

Here's A Youtube Video for Google Voice Search:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZapF6fqz8M&feature=channel

As soon as they make it available, you open the Google Mobile App, and instead of typing in your search, hold the phone to your ear (like a phone call) and say what you want to search for. Then look at the phone and see your search results. Why would you want to do this? Because you don't have to deal with a keyboard.

Does anyone know if this will work on the ipod touch, assuming you have a pair of headphones with a microphone on it?

WinMo phones have had voice search for a long time with Microsoft Mobile Live Search.

It's a lot easier (especially one-handed) to say "seafood restaurant" and get a list of close by places, than to type it in.

What I'd like to see from Google or Apple, is for them to make their search interface work better on mobiles when you want images or news instead. I really hate clicking those tiny links at the top.

That really doesn't apply here in NYC. Just walk 1-2 blocks, you'll hit one no matter where you are. :)

Yeah, I hear ya. I'm here in Seattle (Starbucks Central). There are 3 starbucks in the block I work in! and that's not counting the ones across the street.

I think Googles standard answer would have to be, "You're already there"

Like in StarTrek?!

Captain Picard: "Computer. Starbucks. Hot!"
Computer: "Piss off."
:D

Combine this with a translator and we're good to go! Maybe google translate for trips and whatnot.

It's just occurred to me that considering the current Google app includes search results from your contacts, I wouldn't be surprised if this includes a voice dialer. As a matter of fact, I expect it.

Shhh.....It might be listening

Google Toolbar, G-mail, Ads by Google, Google Mobile App, Google Earth....

Google is getting close to the definition of a virus: "A program that self multiplies, ties up memory and crashes your computer."

This sounds like a good idea but...

...the times it would be most useful is when your hands were busy doing something else (eg driving) and you are likely to have your hands free kit connected or using bluetooth. Yet this seems to need you to lift the phone to our ear to activate. If I could do that I could type in the search. It's when I can't it would be more useful.

awesome. maybe google can make a copy and paste feature . . .

My friend has a "hacked" iPhone and on his phone you can copy and paste. My question is, if some random hacker can do it that fast, why hasn't Apple done it yet? And the same thing with flash? Maybe google can just do all the work apple doesn't feel like doing for them. So your basically telling me my phone can practically think for itself but it can't figure out how to go to landscape mode in emails and text?

Hey at least all this complaining has me not thinking about the monthly whooping my wallet takes now a days :)
