That's not an option for those of us that already have an Exchange account being used up for work.

Interesting. Hadn't thought about that at all. There is no solution coming for this with Snow Leopard's support of exchange, is there?

I don't see how there would be, but I am hopeful that in some way Snow Leopard supporting exchange and the ability to create multiple colors/calendars in iCal would allow a more seamless experience.

Snow leopard has nothing to do with it. Most in this thread are trying to sync their google calendars directly over the air with google, not with iCal acting as a middleman. The main issue is that pretty much every implementation of Exchange limits you to one Exchange account. Even Microsoft Outlook cannot be configured with more than a single Exchange account.

I was just trying to solve this problem yesterday, namely that the device doesn't support Activesync connections to more than one server (Gmail as well as the employer's server). CalDAV to Gmail sounds very attractive.

One question that comes to mind, though, is how to best synchronize contacts between the iPhone and Gmail if Activesync is no longer used between the two. Is there an almost as good alternative to fill that function as well?

Thanks,
Dan

You can select Google Contacts in iTunes under the Info tab for the iPhone. It will only sync when you actually sync your iPhone with iTunes and not over the air, but it's better than nothing.

I had set up CalDAV with google for my default calendar and then set up subscribed calendars for all my other ones under google. Of course a few minutes ago I found out that I can't create new events in a shared calendar on the iPhone, so after a quick google search I came across this excellent guide:

http://www.atnan.com/2009/6/19/configuring-multiple-caldav-google-calendars-on-iphone-os-3-0

It touches upon many of the things already said in this thread, but may be a little easier to follow for some people. Enjoy.

You beat me too it that is a great blog post, use the iPhone Configuration Utility (ICU) - Awesome!

Just one question hopefully the OP or some one can solve for me!

-I set all the calenders up as described on this post.
-Iphone set to sync to Google as well as iCall set to sync to Google (iCal>>Google<<iPhone)
-Now when event is added or deleted on my iPhone or on my wife's iPhone all is well it will show up pretty fast, like seconds fast!
-But when I add something from ical or even the google calender web page it does not show on any iPhone!!!???? Can anyone help me find out why this is??

Note: If I go into settings on iPhone and click to turn off the calender then back on it will show all the added or deleted events but otherwise nothing!

This is pretty lame as I can only add events from my iPhone to be able to get them on both iphones and both Mac's iCal!!

just one

Hi, I've read the thread, but still a bit

I use ical for most things, and sync it to MobileMe and then down to my iphone. That works great. I have a couple calendars there, home, work, travel, sports, etc.

I would like to ADD my google calendar which my wife and I share as a joint calendar, what is the process for Adding this detail?

Is it the first string, or the second string from the first post? I really just want these items to be added and sync'd, not all my other stuff to my google calendar, aka I don't want all my travel, sports etc. to sync to my google calendar which she and I share - since that would just clutter it up a LOT

TIA

Iphone google calDAV woes

I have followed these instructions, but google says to put in "www.google.com" for server information....After entering username and password, I click NEXT. The iphone verifies my information, but when I go to the calendar application, none of the calendar from google have jumped on to the iphone......very frustrating. Do I need to alter settings in google calendar on a desktop?? Please help........clearly there is a way to do this, I have 5 calendars on google calendar that I need to be able to access
PLEASE HELP ME!

help

Alright, I JUST cannot figure this out.

I have a gmail account, I setup a shared calendar, I didn't make it public, I shared it with my friend who has a gmail account.

WHAT do they put in their iphone. I've tried the string from the gmail settings

iostarbxxxyvxetc.@group.calendar.google.com

Which I have tried in the CalDAV settings, and in the subscribed calendar settings area (without user name and password) and it doesn't work?

I've tried putting my username, and pw, or their user name or pw in the settings for CalDAV, but that doesn't work?

Honestly, Im not usually this completely incompetent. What is going on?

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding the two of you, but you should be putting your regular email address you@gmail.com for your username. It is important that your server URL structure is exactly what is written (not www.google.com). The iPhone automatically changes the URL to www.google.com once it has been inputted, but you still have to type out that whole https url that I described in the first post. If you follow the post exactly as described it will work.

Alright i simply cannot get this thing to work and i feel like killing baby seals right now

I subscribe to Google's Christian & UK Holiday Calendars and also have a Birthday's calendar

My Palm Pre gave me no hassle whatsoever and recognizes/pulls all calendars from the cloud without fuss and all i had to do was enter my log in details

My iPhone however can only seem to take my primary personal calendar and nothing else whether i use Exchange, CalDav or consult the Pope's servers

https://www.google.com:443/calendar/dav/en.christian#holiday@group.v.calendar.google.com/user/

(Christian Holidays)

https://www.google.com:443/calendar/dav/en.uk#holiday@group.v.calendar.google.com/user/

(UK Holidays)

These are the URLs i've been trying to put in followed by username & password but it just doesn't seem to be working for me and i'm about to just give up. Am i doing something wrong?

I don't know how everyone else is finding this, but I just quit using the calDAV Google sync cause events here and there wouldn't update for an entire week.

I'll save myself the headache and just use Pocket Informant, as it syncs pretty reliably, and if there's a captcha problem, Pocket Informant sends me to sign into my Google account and reopen the captcha. Saisuke is decent as well, but it doesn't allow me to sync or send me to Google captcha sign in if there's a captcha problem.

This is really helpful and (mostly) exactly what I was looking for - thanks for taking the time to do this.

Using your instructions I have successfully managed to set up my iPhone such that I can now also edit any Google Calendar events on my iphone that I am the creator of or the sole 'invitee' to.

However, I have no ability to edit calendar items where others are also attending, even if I was the creator of the calendar item.

Is this common/expected?

If not, any ideas as to what I am doing wrong?

cheers

jt

I'm not entirely sure why you would have that issue. It's possible that it's just a limitation of the work-around. If you find a solution please post it up for the next guy!

Wow this is an old thread... but as long as people who have experience using Google Calendar on iPhone through CalDAV are hanging around, I might as well see if I can't get my question answered:

How well do iPhone alerts/notifications work through CalDAV/Google Calendar?

I currently have my iPhone configured with my Google services through Active Sync, and my email and contacts work perfectly. My calendar works perfectly too, except that I never get any notifications for events. Not even at the exact time when the event is, where I used to always get an alert even without setting one. Not even when I set one. I have read some things that suggest that if I create events on my web browser and create a pop-up alert that it should translate as an alert on my iPhone... but (1) I want to be able to create events and alerts right from the iPhone Calendar app and (2) I haven't experience that working consistently anyway.

Do alerts seem to work through CalDAV? I would obviously switch if they do. While I obviously prefer the pushing of Active Sync for email, I could stand for 15 minute fetches for my calendar if it meant that it worked well.

Since CalDAV would be running off the server, it doesn't matter where you setup the event. From my experience, I ALWAYS get my notifications (and on every device I'm using).

For example, if I set a notification in SunBird (calendar app I use on Windows) I get the notification in that app, but also in iCal on my Mac and on the iPhone, too. Same results if I setup the event from the iPhone or from iCal. Every synced device is notified at the same time (and with perfect consistency - at least in my experience).

Not only will it notify you when the event occurs, but you can setup 2 alerts to occur minutes, hours, or days before the actual event happens. I've never had any issue with these either. And, by using CalDAV through Google you can have email alerts sent to you as well, which is often handy.

Note: just to be sure I tested it, and it works exactly as described above.

syncs only one way

when i make an entry in my google calendar it will appear in my iphone calendar.. but when making entry in the iphone it will not appear in my google calendar.. please help

Multiple Calender sync

Hi, ive followed all the above posts. I have a 3gs on which I want to sync my 2 google calenders which are on 1 account. Initially I had www.google.com set in the CalDAV setup and used https://www.google.com/calendar/b/0/iphoneselect to select the multiple calenders. This worked great and everything synced. However, now my iphone has started promoting me for my CalDAV password which is definately correct. (It also verifies the account ok). It is only now syncing my primary calender. I have tried using the calender address in the server field which it verifies initially but then prompts me for my password again (albeit with a slightly different prompt screen)
I dont know what to try next.

Many thanks to anyone who can help.

Try resetting your password from Google, and then inputting your new password into the iPhone's Calendar setup field. In the past when I've had problems like this resetting the password has fixed the problem. You could also try setting up a new secondary calendar and trying to sync that one; perhaps it has something to do with your settings on your main calendar.

Also, make sure that you're pulling the calendar down from the calendar address as opposed to the "private address". If I recall correctly, the latter won't work. See picture: http://cl.ly/4C5D

You're probably actually adding an event to the iPhone's local calendar by mistake. When you tap the Calendars button (top left) there will be a local calendar that is checked off. You need to uncheck that calendar and only check the Google calendar(s) that you added. Hope that helps!
