1) What mac user who writes blog reviews doesn't have vmware fusion? Seriously it's so fast, it no different than using regular windows unless maybe high-end game.

2) Google Chrome was pre-planned and worked on with Apple to help push IE out of the picture. Don't forget that the CEO of google is on Apple's board of directors.

3) Chrome doesn't just use webkit, it's using the Safari version of webkit, specifically nightly style builds, not some chunk of code handed back to the community.

Looks like Windows users will be able to run Web Applications from only 2 browsers (Chrome and Safari 4) until FireFox follows.
Jesus, you worry too much, Mozilla has been offering the webapplication addon "prism" for more than a year already, google said itself that they are borrowed ideas from Mozilla, this is one of them.

Ubuntu 8.04 has many web-app installed like normal apps, and thats exactly a product of mozilla prism.

Mozilla is the pioneer on this, you worry too much.

2) I dont think pushing IE out of picture is what google has in mind, i think google just want to has something to rely on in this area.

3)Chrome uses a month old webkit core, not nightly build, did you not read previous discussion?

It is back to the numbers game. OSX just does not have a large enough market share to take front seat from any one other than apple for software development.

You can whine and complain all you want but from a business stand point it makes sense to put them 2nd. You only tick off a small hand full of OSX users, most of those who will still use the software when it comes out for mac any why. For max profits get it out for windows first then worry about OSX and linux.

Browsers such as IE have proven to be a major security vulnerability. Please, Google, do NOT stitch together some alpha code and offer it as "Chrome for the Mac". Take your time...

I agree that they need to polish the app, no doubt about it. This is Google, and they know the browser needs to be amazing from day one.

But WHY release the Windows version now, rather than keeping that a secret until all 3 were ready?

Exactly because (most of) their products are amazing. If they release it for Windows first and its buggy they can just blame Microsoft!

Why doesn't he compile the Linux/Unix version and run it under X11 natively on his Mac? edit: oh, never mind, it's not nearly complete.
There is no UI. And the reason it will take months is because they haven't even figured out how Chrome will work on the Mac OS X architecture. They also say that Linux architecture is much more similar than Windows is to them so when they are ready with the Mac version it won't be long until the Linux version.

I tried compiling it and I got 2622 errors! Amazing!

Cheers

I'm testing out Chrome right now, and I have to say, it's not bad, but almost too simplistic for me. I think I'm just used to having 1/8 of my browser window taken up by some permanent gray fixture with buttons and text fields.

This is so Typical

Unfortunately, this is very typical story and just another story about PC idiots that don't acknowledge the Mac community. These idiots dismiss their own ignorance of the growing Mac community. I would love to be able to send a serious virus to their main server computer if I knew how. Take em down. Lessons need to be learned.

lol, both opera, ie and firefox has customizable UI that can give you maximum viewing space. I think larger viewing space is a good thing.

In the same way a Huyndai almost turns a car into a Porsche.

Try and build Final Cut with Google Gears.

Have fun with that.

You're using a nonsense analogy, probably deliberately. No-one is proposing building Final Cut with a browser - it's not what browsers or Gears are designed for. But Chrome is probably as close as Google will ever get to a "Google OS," one that runs common web applications quickly and securely, and not of some minority, niche app like FC - which to the majority of users is irrelevant.

Warning this will crash your browser

Using Chrome?

To crash the browser put this into the address bar (without quotes) "hello:%"

Using Chrome?

You know, this leads me to another idea.

since when you type "hello:%" in urlbar, Chrome will crash, but what I did is not clicking the link, nor did I copy and paste it. I merely copied the link inside firefox, and only RIGHT at the urlbar of Chrome, nothing has been input there yet. and Chrome crashed already!

This led me to believe google is using pre-fetch functions, not only they pre-fetch the links on the webpage, they probably also monitoring the clipboard and try to fetch it when they observe he internet address like strings.

If true, this would be a huge security flaw.

If someone knows the inside news, please let me know.

I thought that too (this happened to me aswell when playing around). I think they rushed this a bit too much.

rush is a problem, but my worry is about privacy issue and security flaws. IDK, we will have to wait and see, hopefully will get more information out soon.

Well it's certainly a disappointment that Mac users weren't able to blog about Chrome first this time around. But seriously now, it's just a browser. No point in getting all discouraged about it working on the MS OS' first.

And come to think of it, it's still on Beta version. You guys might wan't the MS users to discover the bugs on their PC first, so by the time they introduce it on Mac and Linux, it should already be a stable product.

PC users are guinea pigs right now.

:)

Well, it's too bad pc users weren't the only guinea pigs for mobileme. Next time, maybe.
Um... yes... and so that is my take on the one-platform release: learn as much as possible from beta testing on one platform, then go to the next

Months?

Guess which browser I am NOT supporting for the web sites I build.
It's built on the same engine as Safari, so good luck with not supporting it.

Chrome is a fantastic browser, very intuitive and has just the right balance between features and simplicity. Unbelievably fast as well. And only a few days earlier M$ released IE8 which is actually surprisingly innovative for a M$ product. Color coded related tabs, accelerators, web slices, suggested sites, InPrivate mode (stealth)... it really makes one hell of a difference.

Chrome and IE8 make Safari and Firefox look like something out of the 1950's... hopefully Apple will address that with one whopper of a Safari makeover. As for Firefox, it finally went straight in the trash after about 2 minutes with Chrome.

and people wonder why Apple users get no respect. Thank you for adding to truth to the belief apple users are stuck up snobs who do not understand the real world.

Get it though your thick head and read my early post. At less than 10% market share for the OS. It just does not make since to put apple first. It will always and always should take a back seat to windows. Like it or not 80% of the market should come before the 10%

I know Windows users who treat Mac users with utter contempt because of their own self-righteousness and hatred of that which they don't understand. It isn't just Apple fanboys.

1. Chrome's javascript engine is different from safari. you don't need luck to create a web with dynamic content that behave differently in safari and Chrome. Unless, sure you don't use any javasript and turn it off.

2.out of 1950's? how? tell me which feature of Chrome is not borrowed from safari, firefox or firefox's addons, other than multi-threading?

3. Ie 8 much better than firefox and safari? how? 1950.... use that only if you actually lived through it.

This website should be called Mac opinions. Not Mac Rumors. No one can convince me otherwise that Mac users always must take a back seat. It's true, you know it, most Mac users know it too, and I don't like it a bit. In fact, I resent it to the max!

True story...My wife had to take a computer class for her work last night. They gave her a flash drive to store the files they created during the class. She kindly asked would the flash drive work on the mac? The answer... "Sorry, we are not sure about that".

So very typical. I resent this mentality to the highest imaginable level. Don’t give me your market share BS. Market share is irrelevant. We are talking about ignorance and denial to the Mac platform. So very very common.

I find 'months' more embarrassing for them then anything. I was pretty annoyed they didn't release it at the same time, but I really expected it to be released a few days or weeks after.

I am not going to install Windows just to check out a browser ... FF3 works damn well for me.

Sorry Google, you pretty much lost my interest ... for now.
