I was just like.... yaaayyyyy yipppeeeee awesome!!!!! At last..

Then I got to the big that states 'some adverts' will be blocked.. and facepalmed.. still a step in the right direction, but it won't beat Safari and the Crystal ad blocker I use, by far and away the best browsing experience I've had on mobile devices!

So google is doing this because they are "good people"?! Hell no. It's all about their plans and interests.

Anyone with a brain just installs ad blocker plus and an ad blocker on iOS for safari.

I think I'll trust a third party with a less conflict of interest than google with ad blocking.
Speaking of iOS Safari content blocking, I started with and have only ever used Purify. Any reason I should switch?

Google's ad network is pretty respectful as very as delivery, speed, and intrusion so if their ads are excluded I am okay with that.

Honestly, it's when you start to venture out into the wild west of ads: the ones that scroll with the page or lift you sessions away, that eat at me.

The ads that bother me most are on devices that cannot handle any additional stress. Take the iPod Touch 4th generation for example. Anyone who still uses one is experiencing memory leaks for various reasons (even browsing google images will cause a crash due to ads running behind the scenes) sure 256 mb of Ram is under-powered by today's standards but, for the people who that's the best device they own, its completely unfair.

I'm very fortunate to have a phone and laptop that work 99% of the time but, still there are sometimes where all I have is the iPod Touch.

I don't use ad blocker plus on safari. I think I use Crystal. I haven't done a recent comparison. Seems to work :)

It's a smart move. They finally figured out how to deal with people blocking their ads: Give them an ad blocker that blocks most ads but not Google's, so they're satisfied.

They'll likely face lawsuits for this. Blocking the ads of others while allowing their own is most certainly seen an an anticompetitive move. I'm sure they'll try to get around it by using a block list made by another company, rather than themselves, but they'll certainly pick one that doesn't block their own ads.
They'll avoid this by making a separate standards body to determine which ads are acceptable. They'll reject the intrusive ones. Maybe that'll be fair. But I'll bet that standards body will try and make only Google's ads acceptable.

Just not in the context of our benevolent hosts. It's fine to do it to anyone else.
Can I get an ad-clicking plugin to enable on MacRumors? :D

For ad blocking to work, only a subset of the population can use it. I'll be happy if most people end up being content with a watered down ad blocker while I install a full one.

I don't understand why anyone would use google chrome (or any google products) when the only objective is to data mine the user for the purpose of selling adds. Who cares what options they build in when there are so many better options out there with out google spyware built in.

I'm all for avoiding monoculture on the web. On macOS, I primarily use Safari unless I need to see a page that uses flash. Then I'll use Chrome.

But on Windows, Chrome is the only option for me. I used MS Edge for several months and was completely fine with it. Then all of the sudden, all of my extensions stoped working (last pass, ghostry...). Firefox on Windows, well you can't leave a tab or window open for any extended period of time (days), without the brower slowing to a crawl, crashing or even bringing your whole system down.

I finally gave up and switched to Chrome on Win. I hate it for exactly the reason you stated above. I'd gladly go back to Edge if my plugins worked again. Right now, I feel like I've no choice.

Aka, Google wants a monopoly on the internet's ads.

If you haven't noticed, the EU is pretty cucked lately. I doubt they'll do anything.

Well in Germany they r currently investigating "Adblocker Plus" because they whitelist certain providers from their default filter list if they pay em money
