Lol. You told us it was coming with iOS 26.4 few weeks ago. Then 26.5. Then 27. And now its 27.2-27.3 already. Are you a joke? Hahahahahahahahhaha

Please have an option to keep google services far far way from anything on my iPhone in settings. I am NOT intrigued not matter how revolutionary the tech is.
Apple is and has been in over their head for some time now. Keeping Google services far away is but a dream. It’s too late, the Cupertino companies desperation is showing. Google is unstoppable.

10-1 it’s gonna be Siri”beta” when they release it.

I’m also so excited to see what devices this new Siri won’t work on like my 8 HomePods, 5 Apple TV’s, 2 laptops, Mac mini, 3 iPads it will be so soothing to have a intermittent Siri experience depending on what device hears my request.

Guess it will be the same as usual if that’s the case.

Didn't think about the HomePod mini or the OG HomePod. Please say it aint so..........

Apple's focus has been on software based optimizations. They have a paper called LLM in a flash. They have compressed existing models into very tight spaces and reduced latency. They can load 7b+ models into phone memory footprints.

And you're forgetting the GPU/CPU and TPU can already directly access the same memory objects, there's no copy need. And they put tensor cores in the GPU cores too in the M5. And their software abstracts the need to differentiate.
Yes but as I stated although the memory is unified the compute does not happen in memory with the current Apple Silicon framework. And even though there is zero copy of data and the CPU, the GPU and the NPU all have simultaneous access to the unified memory pool the model has to first be loaded into the memory pool from the SSD and THEN the CPU, GPU or NPU can compute the model residing temporarily in the memory pool. Eventually some of this compute will have to move to inside the memory pool itself and perhaps to a portion of the memory pool that is now made up of persistent memory that doesn’t flush the LLM upon booting down like RAM but is faster than the SSD.

Apple partnering with a data collecting company to power a personal feature that is currently secure doesn't sound good to me. How is Apple going to protect the user?

"Siri" will work on all supported devices.
"Siri+" will work on modern Apple hardware.
"Siri Pro" will work on modern Apple hardware with a paid subscription.
"Siri Ultra" will work on modern Apple hardware with a higher-tier paid subscription.

Of all the top AI Gemini is at least better than ChatGPT but still garbage compared to Claude. At this point I'd rather just use my own LLM on a machine at home. Who needs AI anyway to turn your lights on and off. Will be disabled on my phone for sure
It is much more than turning the lights on and off. Take a look at Perplexity's "Personal Computer" for Mac.

You’re aware that it’s just drawing from publicly available information and adding some flourish?
Very likely does not know this. Just goes, “IT GAVE ME WORDS!” then copy/paste. Not even a cursory glance to see if it was even remotely accurate (like 26.4). 🙂

This is Google's version of Private Cloud Compute. It should give similar privacy protections.

Google and private don't belong in the same sentence.

How weird that google releases info on apples upcoming plans.
It's better than Apple doing it because they've been lying about it for 2 years. If Google is saying it's coming that means it's finally almost ready to deploy.

Will be good if it has the same level of privacy and does not run on Google’s servers. Waiting to try out all the new Siri features and capabilities.

Honestly, this one will go on the history books.

The massive failure of Siri and the delays, ultimately resulting in Apple caving and doing business with direct competitor #1.

Jobs would've never allowed this. This was a clear mismanagement and lack of vision of Tim Cook and everyone involved with Siri. As an engineer and if I were to be an engineering manager at Apple, I would clean house entirely.
I wish people would stop saying what “Jobs would have done” as if they knew him on a personal level, and treating him as this infallible human being. He allowed the MobileMe launch, didn’t he? That was his decision, and while he chewed out the team who created it, he allowed it to launch in the disastrous state it was in.

As far as what you’d do, you’re not an Apple employee, let alone a manager for Apple engineers. So it doesn’t matter what you’d do. Personally, I wouldn’t want to work with somebody who could just “clean house” without any thought for how it affects your co-workers or the future of a project. That’s the problem with corporate America. Instead of valuing the teams you have as actual human beings, you treat them as disposable trash you can replace.

I have a few observations about that:
- Apple has been in partnership with its biggest rivals since... forever. Zero surprise here. After all, their rivalry only intersect partially and it's direct only in fanboys' minds.
Samsung for components and Google itself for services. About Google specifically, they took money from their "rival" to avoid getting their hands dirty with a search engine and still quietly make money out of it. In this case, things look pretty similar: I don't think Apple could keep their privacy-focused image and develop a competitive LLM.
- Siri has been almost abandoned, but it's not like Google Assistant, Cortana and Alexa have been evolving and thriving. They've been stagnating for a long time, after they capped the possibilities of pre-LLM technology. They are better but still feel outdated, compared to the dumbest LLM model.
- It looks like Apple missed the AI train while focusing on VR and a car that never was, but I think that's only a small part of the story. As we all know, AI is still very likely a bubble ready to pop. Until AI investment stabilises, we won't know Apple's strategy (which I believe to be a mix of conservatism, reluctance to invest in a service that's not directly related to selling hardware ...and miscalculation of the potential of AI) we won't know if this choice was wrong or right. People who developed great AI services are not exactly in the best place right now.

I understand that you guys, as consumers, think that Apple has failed because it delevered a worse experience to you. But that's not what failure means to Apple. They had a really solid image and letting other companies face more experimental challenges has been their strategy for more than a decade.
Also, I'd call many other iPhone feature mediocre and outdated but good enough to keep the boat afloat.
People buy iPhones because they know what they get and it's an overall predictable and reliable experience. I don't think any relevant number of people has bought an Android phone because they thought Siri was bad.

So, I don't think Siri being bad and the partnership with Google will be rembered as exceptional. If anything, I agree the goofy attempt to surf the AI marketing wave with useless features they also failed to deliver, that thing was absurd and exceptional.
They should have definitely acted cool, kept their bad assistant, pretended they haven't missed on AI and were just waiting for the technology to be more reliable, affordable and mature. Like they always do!
We all use ChatGPT or something but we also all hate when any other app tries to force-feed us any other AI feature. We were pissed that Apple haven't delivered AI features but not because we wanted them or needed them, mostly because they lied and used it to market their new phones.

I'm not a coder and don't (and am not allowed) use these tools professionally, but I've been trying out Gemini vs ChatGPT lately, and Gemini just keeps losing the plot every few exchanges. I was comparing Garmin watches for example, and Gemini kept inventing watches I hadn't tried, wasn't looking at, and didn't even mention. I'd correct it, it would apologize and it would be fine for a bit, but then they would come back or some other model.

I don't know a lot about AI bots, but at least ChatGPT has some short-term memory.

4 trillion dollar company and they still cant it get right without another company bailing them out.
Apple has $66b cash on hand.
Alphabet has $126b cash on hand.
Both of them are $4t market caps.
And the money trading hands is nothing. Alphabet is giving it right back to Apple for using the Google search engine in Safari. It's basically Apple getting Gemini for free. Apple doesn't have to develop a search engine or AI and Google just gives them the stuff for free.
AI is very, very expensive. Apple lost billions on developing a car they never shipped and it is still less than Alphabet spends on Gemini in a single year.

Side note: Microsoft was also a $4t company last year. They are now $3.2t. And that is largely because they bet big on Copilot and it has not been working out well for them.

I use gemini, I'm fine with it. It works for my needs.
Gemini works good for me and my needs too.

I have checked both of them too.
You are right, when I have more needs and very specific questions, I would prefer ChatGPT.

You have to be very specific if you wan’t good answers of Gemini, and at least it asks follow-up questions, if it doesn’t understand.
So to me it’s lightyears ahead of du## Siri, so Apple will benefit of using it.

The first thing Steve Jobs did when he returned to Apple in 1997 was create a strategic partnership with Microsoft.
Well, Apple was then close to being dead, needed “partner investments”, had their back against the wall, and the Mac needed a well-working MS Office….
Apple currently is far from being dead, but… it does seem they feel that on the “AI front”, Apple does have their back against the wall.
TBH, I do think this is the best Apple can do… partner with Google on it. Apple can keep telling us, that the customer’s data is safe on Apple devices… (if you believe that or not).

Why anyone trusts AI for anything other than entertainment purposes is beyond me.

Gemini has the worst Goldfish memory of any AI and it doesn't get better when you pay money. I've had it not only forgot long exchanges, but I've had it arbitrarily lose 95% of my chat with no recollection of it never existing. And by lose I mean it poofed out of existence. I scroll up and it looked like a brand new chat. Maybe with Gemini about to be on hundreds of millions of iPhones they'll finally address this issue, but I doubt it. ChatGPT lately is insanely negative and disagreeable (and more wrong on topics than ever).

Claude is impressive, but it's so expensive that it's not worth using. The usage limitation makes it a joke.
