ill stick with AmazonMP3 - its unlimited space so I share it with my girl - nice to see both services with browser support - we both freelance so being able to open our music on any computer is amazing.

I will just continue to use PLEX and stream everything (music, movies, pictures, etc) from my server for FREE to all my devices.

More choice is always good. I expect there are plenty of Android uses pleased they have more ways to buy music, especially one that integrates with their choice of smartphone.

I knew there was a catch. Its for android. No thanks.

Have you tried going to music.google.com in iOS? Apparently not. And they said they were bringing a native app as well.

Yeah I only have like 600 songs and it took like 3 days, so I can't even imagine how long it would take for someone who actually utilizes the 20,000 song limit. I do like the Android app, and the whole idea behind it though, and if any product can give iTunes a run for its money (for free haha) it would be Google Music, IMO.
I just like being able to stream my music anywhere as long as I have an internet connection. Though I really want to start culling my collection. I have a lot of files I never play.

I stand corrected. I knew there was a catc. Its for yanks only.

How to buy

So can I use this like Amazon for buying music?

Can I use my desktop Chrome to go to the store, purchase an MP3 and bring it down into iTunes?

Every time I try to checkout a free song, it keeps saying:
For your protection on checkout, please sign into your account again.

Over and over.

haha yeah, of my 600 some odd uploaded songs i probably listen to 20 or 30. still, it takes space off my sd card, and its available everywhere so it was worth the upload if i ever wanted to listen to those.

Really- you can go to a friend's house and just access your library from their iTunes. Neat trick - how do you do that?

Why does it have to be on his computer? I have my iPhone with me that I can plug in to his system and play through the headphone jack...

Other than the search engine, I haven't seen anything great from Google.

Perhaps you should use Google search engine to look for other great things from Google. How about Android? GMail? Google Docs?

Forget it. If you don't see any benefit of being device agnostic for your use case, then don't use google music.

Just go to your Google Music library after purchasing it and you can download the mp3. Or use the media manager to download all your purchases.

Same here:)

Very innovative concept by Google.

yeah, I took my laptop to work and uploaded my itunes there - internet on my station was amazing - Once you get over the initial bulk its super easy to put 2 or 3 albums up

Not having my music taking up space in 3 different computers and being able to listen to it on any computer with internet is worth the initial upload time.

just open up a browser and you have your entire collection :)

That's the problem....I can't purchase it. It keeps asking me over and over to sign in, yet I am signed in.

Good. With Apple, you pay $25 to have to upload the majority of your music collection. With Google, you pay nothing to have to upload all of your music collection. I guess we'll see which one wins. On the premise that the Android has twice the base of iOS, I'll say Google "wins" this one (while directly earning no money).

I do find it most interesting how Apple had to get in bed and pay the music labels while Google bypassed them and still got their blessing (sans Warner Bros).

Apple upgrades all your music to 256Kbps and also does not require you to upload all your content, but does upload your meta-data.

I think Google's service is probably a breath of fresh air for Android users and will be very popular for any Android user willing to spend money on music.

The only question is what happens when Google becomes a digital locker for pirated music (i.e.: when the music service sells no music, but the users all have like 20,000 songs that are pirated).

Apple is paying the labels money for all those songs they would not have otherwise gotten money for. The music labels won't be happy with another Napster scenario.

I have no clue. Works for me. I assume you enabled your Google Music account first?

Well actually I'd rather get lossless, but apart from CDs there's no legal ways to get lossless files. And between music and movies, I already have enough plastic discs.

Plenty of online music stores sell FLAC music legally, plus you can rip your own CDs to that format. FLAC is a well-supported lossless format.

Google Music only uploaded a small portion of them (about 5%) since it refuses to acknowlege lossless tracks, and nearly my whole library is burnt from CDs into that format.

Google Music supports FLAC. A good 90% of my library is lossless FLAC, some of it even 24-bit/96kHz from my SACDs, and all of it has uploaded properly. Notably, all FLACs are converted to 320kbps MP3 format for storage on Google's servers so they can be streamed.

Just "bought" a free song to try it out. It's exactly like Amazon except the user interface is horrible. "Click here to download your music!" takes you to an empty playlist. You have to click around and go into menus before you can finally download them. Amazon always annoyed me with their downloader tool, but at least they made it easy to find.
