Damn. Nexus devices updated to 4.3 today. Google edition "coming soon". I guess that answers our questions about the updates.

4.3 is a maintenance release as predicted. The new Nexus 7 looks awesome but I'm keeping my OG one for now, only just got it a few months ago. Still hoping they release Google Edition devices outside the US but I'm not holding my breath.

Patiently awaiting a release date....

Best Buy's leaked ad said Tuesday so chances are it could either be available today on the Play Store but next tuesday at BB or next Tuesday for both.

Or it could be one of the upcoming Tuesdays over the next few weeks. :p

Looks like nexus 5 is going to be interesting.

N5 and new n7 combo is pretty sweet I guess. October can't come fast enough.

chromecast seems like an appletv replacement that is cross-platform. I really hope other apps like HBO go add "chromecast." All the apps they showed pretty much are built into every single smartTV =/

edit: it seems like any app can add the feature very easily and it is only $35

Chormecast is awesome! I hope eventually we can stream local media and maybe mirro games

Available July 30th (my birthday!)

LTE models coming later, unfortunately.

Not a bad price at all!

It's $349, not $329. I was hoping for $299. Why does LTE cost so much when it's already on the Snapdragon chip?

Yea I ordered a Chromecast for my bedroom. For $35 bucks why not. Already got a free Apple TV from work. To use it with Android and Windows and not be hamstrung by its lack of codec support I have to jailbreak it... kinda lazy and I lost the remote. So if this works out good ill just pack the Apple TV up and slot a second Chromecast dongle in my living room.

The models without LTE have lower binned chips with the LTE portion disabled due to defects and probably lack the extra antenna. These chips tend to be cheaper since they are lacking functioning components. Not to mention any licensing and patent fees that may be involved.

Why? You can already use DLNA on Android and that's a universal standard. Chromecast looks utterly pointless.

I like DNLA but I believe this has the potential to offer more than just streaming with its API.

Also, correct me if I am wrong but can you stream Netflix and Pandora over DNLA? My usage for it has been limited to playing stored movies on my phone to a Smart TV, even then it was kind of cumbersome.

Ordered my Chromecast as soon as it was announced and got in on the July 27th ship date. Imho this thing has the partial to blow airplay out of the water. And for $35 give the apple tv a run for its money.

I'll be upgrading to the new Nexus 7 as soon as it is open for orders as well.

to my knowledge DNLA is only for things stored locally on the device meaning apps do not work.

That is how I feel. If it really is that easy for devs to add the feature, we should see a ton of apps adding it. Oh, and what is up with the ridiculous shipping methods...5-10 days, 3-5 days, 2 days.....what happened to just the standard 2-5 they use to include for $3.99

Well that was interesting. I'll get the chrome cast when it becomes available in the UK. I'll need to see the nexus 7 in the flesh before I buy it as I need to see how good the screen is as that is my main reason for buying it.
