And this is why I’ll be patient and wait it out on Apple Intelligence. As much of a trainwreck that and Siri has been, I feel a lot better about them when it comes to privacy. I’m not naive and know Apple probably collects more information than they lead on, but compared to Google, they’re better.
You also have the option, to stop data sharing with Apple. It’s in Settings>Privacy>Analytics(Switch off)

1. does this work with chrome as well, searching through google engine ? or is it only the google app. im a bit confused

2. does this mean we'll finally be able to ask AI about our history ?

I can’t see a problem…. I have chatGPT keep all my passwords in its memory for quick access….wcgw?

Glad to see that it is opt in and hopefully it stays that way. Not so sure whether one can trust Google with their data. I will definitely turn this feature off for now.

Amazing, you rather have an AI that doesn’t work but preserves privacy versus one that sometimes works.

are you... suggesting Apple shouldn't even bother with privacy?

As this article points out, Apple is seemingly trying to solve a problem no one in the industry has been able to solve.

I applaud them for it, but it obviously carries with it a pretty huge risk: what if it is an issue that cannot be solved?

But if they can solve it, that will be a huge step forward.

Gemini even says that if you do not delete your chat conversations, there might be real people looking trough your conversations. So you should always feel like someone is looking over your shoulder.

When I read the title all I think is that google is going to show me the same GD ads and sites from the last time I searched.

“Oh, you’re looking for brake pads? How about brake pads? I don’t care that you bought them and won’t need them for 5 years, but how about more brake pads?

How about apple cider? You looked for cider mills in the fall. Maybe you want to find one now in February? You know… when they’re all closed.”

I’m already seeing that AI has made google a mess. My search history isn’t really useful because most stuff I search for I only do ONCE.

Yeah, Apple is the least data-hungry big tech company, especially when compared to something like Google or Meta

The headline should read "Google Gemini now logs your every move"

Soon we will see Minority Report scenario where the gov. request Google data to predict crimes citizens might make and arrest you preemptively.

Another reason to switch to DuckDuckGo.

wrong. DDG just uses BING and serve you ads too. If you are not feeding Google, you are feeding Microsoft.

Its not as good, but Brave Search is about the only free independent privacy friendly search engine. Am not saying DDG sells your data but they operate under the Bing umbrella. No Bing = No Duckduckgo

Maybe Apple should build their own search engine with privacy and security built in.

Can you honestly tell me why Apple would be tempted to do that when they’re getting $20B a year from Google to keep Google as the default search engine in Safari? Even if Google if forced to split their search engine (their original product) from the rest of the enterprise, as now longs quite likely, won’t the new entity want to bribe Apple in similar fashion?

Um, wrong. I see no ads from DuckDuckGo, ever, on any Apple platform. Maybe it’s because I use adblockers, maybe not, but that’s irrelevant — DuckDuckGo isn’t getting a red cent based on my (non-) click-throughs.
