Can you honestly tell me why Apple would be tempted to do that when they’re getting $20B a year from Google to keep Google as the default search engine in Safari? Even if Google if forced to split their search engine (their original product) from the rest of the enterprise, as now longs quite likely, won’t the new entity want to bribe Apple in similar fashion?
The regulators will stop that Google payment soon. Apple need to prepare for that loss of revenue. If Google does split they will be subject to the same limitations.

Why would Apple do this? Er what about a little thing call customer satisfaction or maybe Apple is just about the money these days.

Maybe Apple should build their own search engine with privacy and security built in.

they won't because the main source of income for search engines is ads, unless apple turns to ads as a source of income which I doubt. It will turn them just into another Google.

If you want privacy search engine you can check duckduckgo or brave search.

Um, wrong. I see no ads from DuckDuckGo, ever, on any Apple platform. Maybe it’s because I use adblockers, maybe not, but that’s irrelevant — DuckDuckGo isn’t getting a red cent based on my (non-) click-throughs.

how do you think duckduckgo makes money? do you really think they operate this service because they love you? its business, they make money and they make money from ads.

Having ads on a search engine is ok as long as they don’t follow you around and spy on you for ad revenue. DDG makes money from ads they just don’t follow you around.

Maybe Apple could return the search engine back to what is was originally intended to be before Google got greedy. A way of finding information not a way selling more stuff.

if you are interested there is a paid search engine for like $10 it does exactly that. Kagi.com .

The days when browser or search vendors made an appreciable amount of cash from simply serving ads is somewhere in the rearview mirror, because no advertiser wants to pay for ads that are never clicked on. Advertising revenue is tied to clickthroughs nowadays, and has been for some time. Also, DuckDuckGo adds (don’t know what percentage) to its revenue the income from Privacy Pro subscriptions.

And yes, I guess that DuckDuckGo loves us, because it allows the user to turn off ads. Thinking different, I guess.

I’ll wait to see what the courts actually decide before calling that one. Regulators in the US government can actually force very little. If they regulate something other than an industry where federal licenses or rentals (drilling rights, frequency spectrum) are required, the regulators have to recommend prosecution to the Department of Justice, and ultimately it’s a judge who decides.
