Like what? My bar of premium platinum is better than your crap bar of platinum you paid about the same thing for?

That's a dumb metaphor.

I was trying to be nice and give him the benefit of the doubt. Or maybe metaphors aren't his forte? I'm going to cook s'mores on my iPad Mini.

Looks like fun. Following the Apple Pricing Model, Google's priced it right.

Heck I've got over $1000.00 invested in my AT&T connected iPad 4 with ZAGG PROplus & a couple of other cases for fun. Then there's the nearly $2000.00 my 13" BTO 2012 MBA cost. Plus I'm buying something different which is part of the fun.

It will be fun to use it exclusively for a certain period of time, evaluating it for my personal computing.

I'll pre-order the moment the appear online. That was the secret to getting my Nexus 4, before the onslaught of orders jammed things up.

Something exciting to order, while waiting for Apple to come up with a new iPhone with a relevant screen. I'm really looking forward to an ample sized iPhone. Sooner or most likely later... they've got to cave in and build one.

I feel like I can finally join in on the bashing at this site. This is THE STUPIDEST computer Ive seen released in my life I think. I have to think they have something coming for it to have it make even a little sense.

5 hours battery
No real OS
No USB 3
32GB storage
Web isnt made for high density displays
Knockoff design
Knockoff marketing
No way to put the Core i5 power to use
Poor touch performance

Don't forget that 5 hours is only the quoted battery life. Considering the screen in this and the fact that WiFi must be always on, I think 3-4 hours is more realistic.
Which is just pathetic.

I guess the below would be a better option to consider ;)

some complain about having to pay for the 1tb storage after three years. all i can say is, in three years 1tb is the free default size.

Oh really? Then why not state that up front? The cost of storage after the initial "free" period expires should be considered when determining the total cost of ownership. I am not saying Chromebooks are bad, but they are also not the best thing since sliced bread! ;)

They also flat-out falsely advertised it; 'highest resolution display in a laptop'. 15" Retina MacBook Pro, anyone? They didn't say something that could be disputed on subjective terms like 'the best user experience', they flat-out lied about an established fact.

I agree with a lot of you all. That's WAYYYY to much for basically a dumb terminal with a web browser. Unless I'm missing something, how could google POSSIBLY think that this price point is remotely ok???

Holy Cr*p!

I am a huge Google fan and use lots of their products.

I was checking this thread at work (where I couldn't watch the video) and saw all the criticisms about Google copying Apple and I was all like 'those Apple fanboys think everyone copies them'

And then I got home and watched the video. Dear god it is a bad parody! If this was April 1st I would honestly be expecting Google to come back later and say "just kidding guys. we know no one is going to buy a $1300 dollar laptop dedicated to web browsing with no storage and crappy battery life...gotcha!"

Seriously I think this was one of their side projects (because a high-res touchscreen chromebook is probably something they want to develop) and instead of just completely scrapping this current project they decided to sell however many prototypes they made because they had nothing better to do with them...

I hope the Android team works separately from the Chrome team...

So...

Can you run Photoshop CS6 on it ?

Or..

Can you run World Of Warcraft on it ? Even at low fps ? ( for the naysayers )

How about Microsoft Office 11 ?

How long does it take to transcode a 1080 video ?

*cough* *cough*

:)

The Pixel is certainly not for people who need to perform the tasks or run the apps you mentioned above. I think there is a market for Chromebooks, though, especially the cheaper ones. I think the price of this device coupled with the fact that it is basically just a beautiful Web browser will make it a hard sell. I certainly won't be buying one, but I also won't be buying any Chromebooks for personal use. I will stick with my MacBook Pro, since I need to occassionally transcode HD video and use Office and Photoshop often! I don't play WoW, though! ;)

Actually from their web page

"... The 12.85” screen has the highest pixel density of any laptop ... "
https://play.google.com/store/devices/details?id=chromebook_pixel_wifi

Pixel --> 239 ppi
15 rMBP --> 220 ppi
13 rMPB --> 227 ppi

...., they flat-out lied about an established fact.

In most of the world ... 239 > 227

In shear number of pixels it is going to be tough for a sub 13" display to have more than a 15" display. That is just bigger screen. If look at rMBP 13" you'll see the Pixel has more pixels.

I seriously doubt they are just trying to dump a bunch of prototypes!
