Wow, I think small and light laptops are for the week and Feeble, but I would pick an Macbook Air over this pile crap any day, I have to be connected to the Internet to even use my machine? **** you google.

But, if its not secured very well, I might pick one up and hackintosh OSX or Windows 8 onto it ;)

If this is real then I feel embarrassed for Google!

should feel embarrassed for Apple. Their scripted, formulaic hyperbole is a farce unto itself. "Oh it is magical, better than sex , .... must have been created by elves ... defies physics .... " .....

I feel like I can finally join in on the bashing at this site. This is THE STUPIDEST computer Ive seen released in my life I think. I have to think they have something coming for it to have it make even a little sense.

$1300
5 hours battery
No real OS
No USB 3
32GB storage
Web isnt made for high density displays
Knockoff design
Knockoff marketing
No way to put the Core i5 power to use
Poor touch performance

Let's not forget that touching a nice retina display will leave fingerprints all over it.

Meanwhile, at Google, brainstormers were storming their brains...

"Crumb-bum Proboscis? No..."

"Crap-box Pooh-pill? No..."

"Crimean Packhorse? No..."

"Cadmium Poprocks? No..."

"Celery Petri Dish? No..."

"Concord Permafrost? No..."

"Chromebook Pixel? Hmmm... I think yes."

"But I kind of liked Crap-box Pooh-pill."

"You're fired."

Wait, you need to be connected to the Internet to use it? I thought they fixed that. If you still need to do that, WTF?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? Yeah, good luck with that if you are somewhere with a stupid wifi gateway that you have to keep logging in to.

Come on man, you have got to admit, this Google Chromebook is even worst than the "Brown" Microsoft Zune!

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

Only idea that is stupider is Facebook thinking of charging people money to send e-mail to Zuckerburg! LOL!

Cnet gave it a good rating for some reason.

Maybe someday Chrome OS will really be enough of an operating system to replace Mac OS X or Windows on a productivity machine. But at $1,300, the Chromebook Pixel is just too much machine for the software. If you have the money to spend on the Pixel and you need the kind of hardware it's packing, you have so many other better options.

Pointless conjecture. Chrome OS would have to be able to stop advanced development on both those operating systems to catch up; and neither Apple nor Microsoft are scaling back on their flagship operating systems. They are expanding resources on them.

How am I supposed to use my iPad then?

You'll have to touch it, which is a disadvantage. On the other hand, there's no point of touching a laptop screen when you have a trackpad and keyboard right there. Also, I've used a touch PC before. It makes my arm sore after a while. I thought Steve Jobs was naive to not do that until I actually tried one.

They also flat-out falsely advertised it; 'highest resolution display in a laptop'. 15" Retina MacBook Pro, anyone? They didn't say something that could be disputed on subjective terms like 'the best user experience', they flat-out lied about an established fact.

Yes the screen resolution in pixels is less than the Macbook Pro 15.4" model. The screen is not 2880×1800 @220ppi, but it is 2560 x 1700 (239ppi) on a 12.85" display.

Either way it is moot when the next Macbook Pro arrives and they pump up the ppi to a much higher density, while increasing power efficieny, better performance and lower the price point.

Then again this machine is DOA for the masses.

Actually from their web page

"... The 12.85” screen has the highest pixel density of any laptop ... "
https://play.google.com/store/devices/details?id=chromebook_pixel_wifi

Pixel --> 239 ppi
15 rMBP --> 220 ppi
13 rMPB --> 227 ppi

In most of the world ... 239 > 227

In shear number of pixels it is going to be tough for a sub 13" display to have more than a 15" display. That is just bigger screen. If look at rMBP 13" you'll see the Pixel has more pixels.

No, in the video he says, "... the highest resolution." It's simply not. Unless we're defining resolution as PPI, of course...

It is, and I think it's kind of a shame. With a proper OS, a larger HDD, and USB3, it would be an excellent machine for the price.

But as it is now? You're paying a lot of money for an internet surfing machine with a retina display. It's not worth it.

Besides the display what make it better than a Lenovo, Sony or Asus Ultrabook?

I wonder if they are going to take preorders deliver on April 1st and refund the money like the failed Nexus Q? April 1st gift?

"We" probably are. At least I am. If I hear "high-res", I assume it's taking screen size into account. A big 50" TV is 1920x1080, which is higher resolution than an iPhone 4 in terms of number of pixels, but I would say that the iPhone is higher resolution colloquially.

Wall Street knows Google is ready to replace Apple as the premier hardware maker. Soon, Google retail stores will open and challenge Apple directly, selling Google Android smartphones and now these awesome Chromebooks which some tech pundits claim are better than Apple portables. Google is going to $1000 a share while Apple goes to $400. It goes to show that Google is winning...
