Google Maps for Apple Watch Now Live With Latest Update

It is supposed to as it warns you about it the first time you use it. However, it did not work for me. Maybe it is because I was also using CarPlay.

That sounds like a big deal. I don't want to have to glance at the map until I have been notified, and we can't always have the volume on in the car.

Where in Canada are you? I found Apple Maps superior to Google Maps in Quebec.
Calgary, Alberta - a lot of the business info is out of date or it sends you to the wrong place. Google on the other hand is usually up to date, even giving accurate info with regards to covid openings/changed hours etc.

Exactly, flyover, look around, subway stations exits, airport indoor maps, up to date POI's, bike directions, are all missing features here in Mexico City even as it is the largest city in the Western Hemisphere and its airport the busiest in LATAM and 30th in the World.

2020 and we still dont have Apple Pay here, Samsung Pay launched two-three years ago. Ive never used my iPhone's NFC chip. And lets not start with all the other services like say Apple News. Dont get me wrong, Apple devices are best in class and Im pretty happy in general, but, when you buy into the Apple ecosystem outside the US, you get half the advertised features, so to speak. Google's and Microsoft's presence in LATAM is substantially better.
Shopping mall indoor maps are also missing in Mexico. And speaking of apple pay, a Hint: if you happen to have a supported card issued outside Mexico you can still use apple pay in Mexico. The limitation is only for those wanting to use it with cards issued in Mexico. Just today I made three payments with apple pay. And I’m not even in Mexico City, I’m in a nearby city which is not nearly as large as Mexico City.

5 years after the launch of Apple Watch. And I’m sure it spies on us in ways not discovered yet.

Pathetic.
Actually, Google Maps did have an apple watch app originally when the watch first came out. Google pulled it a couple of years later because it went mostly unused due to its poor implementation. Now it’s back, but again pretty poorly implemented.

I want to use Apple Maps because I like the haptic feedback on my watch while using CarPlay.... but Hey Siri + search + CarPlay = frustration.
“Hey Siri, take me to Westfield Carindale”
“one possibility is Westfield in Carindale, let me know if you’d like to call or get directions“
”hey Siri, get directions to Westfield Carindale”
“one possibility is Westfield in Carindale, let me know if you’d like to callor get directions“
and that’s the start of One Infinite Loop.

Google get‘s it right first time, every time.

Ok sorry, maybe my hyperbole was not warranted. I don't know anyone that uses Apple Maps here. Doesn't change the fact that business info and road data is often years out of date here (in Calgary - the 4th largest city in Canada).

Same problem here in Vancouver. I specifically don’t use Apple Maps but use Google Maps for that exact reason.

Apple maps is also terrible in Canada. A lot of the info is years out of date - everyone is still using Google maps here.

Canada is a HUGE country! Please don't speak for everyone. If it's terrible in *your* area, I'm sorry about that. I use it all throughout BC and it's great!

I just really, really, really want Apple to improve offline maps. It's completely useless without an active connection.

Ok already! I’m sorry. I already said my hyperbole wasn’t warranted!

Someone else just complained that they have the same issues as me with outdated business info in Vancouver. Are you sure it’s great throughout BC?

Not to be that guy, but Lima and São Paulo are both larger cities.

Not that Apple Maps is any better there, either. Agree 100% with your point that Google Maps is superior in many places outside the US.

Boy so many cool things coming out for the Apple Watch, got to upgrade my old Apple Watch 0.

My wife is still rocking her series 0 and she isn't an Apple fanatic like me - but even she is now asking me almost every other day "Did they announce it yet" haha. tbh the 0 is still keeping almost full day charge (at least til she makes it home from work) and shes had it since release day.

Generally find that Apple Maps & Watch are a great pair for cycling and walking around town. Melbourne & London

It’s awful in Vancouver. For business info. mostly great for directions except for the odd time when you get horribly lost. Hwy 17 in Surrey a good example. Years after it’s built google keeps directing me down it despite the fact there’s no exit there and it’s a 10 minute drive To the next exit to turn around!

Well....you can actually using any of Google service without being sacrificing privacy by using them unsigned, without account.
But it makes a much better conspiracy theory to tell everyone that you believe that Google is personally tracking your every move.

Finally! I never understood why they pulled their support from the Watch to begin. I frequently use Apple Maps for navigation while cycling, I think it's pretty handy taking a quick glance at the watch, but the route accuracy in European cities is still not 100% compared to Google Maps. Curious about the cycling feature that will roll out with the next Watch OS though.
Given that cycling routes will only be released in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Shanghai, and Beijing to begin with, you might get disappointed.

It only gives you directions on your watch. Also doesn't auto-start navigation through the phone. If you start navi on your watch and open your phone, you still have to open google maps and click then click start. Could be a more fluid process.

I'm in Edmonton, and Apple Maps once tried to murder me (by telling me to turn right - where there was no road and a new LRT track with a passing train. Would have ended very poorly).

Plus, Apple Maps only does speed limit display on major streets, while Google Maps does them even on my residential roads.

And Google Maps has never tried to murder me...

I think it depends on how you measure it, as Census years, urban limits definitions, etc, vary by country, this list is from the UN World Urbanization Prospects, which aims to standardize it:
